THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. – The Adriatic Express Affair - 1965

This is the 42nd episode of 1964 to 1968 spy series, THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. The series ran for a total of 105 episodes. The first season was filmed in black and with the remainder shot in colour. Robert Vaughn plays agent Napoleon Solo while David McCallum, plays Illya Kuryakin, Leo G Carroll plays Mister Waverly, the boss of the secret agency known as U.N.C.L.E. (United Network Command for Law & Enforcement) Their main enemy is THRUSH, an organization out to take over the planet.

THRUSH has developed a secret weapon that can stop the human reproductive process. It is being moved by train to Venice and UNCLE agents Robert Vaughn and David McCallum are sent out to take the only sample and destroy it.

Madame Nemirovitch, played by Jessie Royce Landis, is the long time THRUSH type moving the toxin to THRUSH headquarters. The old bat runs a series of beauty shops as a cover. Also in the mix is a defecting THRUSH agent with info about the toxin. The mandatory female who gets involved in the mess is Juliet Mills. (She is the daughter of John Mills) There are also a couple of models, Jennifer Billingsley and Pam Rodgers who have taken a shine to McCallum.

There are several well staged fights in various locations on board the train, including the rooftop. To cut to the quick, UNCLE manages to dispose of the THRUSH types and complete their mission. Now it is time for a little bit of relaxation with the females.

Look close and you will catch long time actor, Sig Ruman as the train conductor. Ruman played the prison guard Schultz in the W.W. 2 film, STALAG 17.

Warning: Spoilers
Veteran actress Jesse Royce Landis steals the show here as an elderly business woman traveling to Italy with a chemical concoction that may really alter the world we know. Unsuspecting Juliet Mills is under her wing and our madame gives her a gun that will kill both the victim and Mills herself.

Jane Dulo really gives comic relief here as a passenger who keeps discovering bodies which really start to pile up in this episode.

Nice to see Sig Ruman as a conductor on the train. It shows you that even the elderly can be Thrush agents and Landis gets the spray of her life at the episode's end.
