Magnum's little voice.
mm-393 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Magnum is thinking about his little voice. There is a Nam beginning where a pilot breaks rules a helps Magnum out. A plane crashes in Maters pool and the pilot believes something suspicious is amidst. Back in Texas the pilot is finding out what is going on and putting together the Texan's personal life. A nice balance while Magnum is on the case in the Island. I like the Two Birds of a Feather for the ending is memorable. Magnum evens the scale. 6 stars. Not the memorable, but a sentimental episode.

Terrible depiction of Texas
amybirdsong9 July 2022
Who in their right mind suggested they film this with all those mountains in the background and try to pull this off as Waco, Texas? I always chuckle at how Hollywood depicts Texas. Very Laughable.

Joanna Kerns doing a Texas accent was not good but still cute.

A home spinning episode....
dd-6605629 April 2021
Even though it's widely known this episode was supposed to've been a pilot episode for a new television series that just didn't pan out its kinda good to know it got used for the inspiration towards "Airwolf"! It's charming and home spinning. Bill Luckling has always been an excellent character actor. And Joanna Kerns will always be remembered for the tv series "Growing Pains". I highly recommend this episode for the avid "Magnum, P. I." fan!

not magnum

Warning: Spoilers
It seems this must have been a pilot for William Lucking. Selleck appears briefly in the beginning and has a spot at the end but this is not a Magnum. Lucking plays a pilot who saved Magum in Vietnam but the two never met. Lucking crashes a plane in Robin's tidal pool but the real story revolves around Lucking's relationship back in Texas with his son and ex wife. Lucking lives for flying but his desire to fly has ruined his marriage. As it turns out the plane he was flying to Hawaii was supposed to crash with Lucking on board. So the questions are who tried to kill him and why, will he reunite with his wife, and will he be a stay at home dad with local adventures. Apparently the idea didn't sell and this is a poor episode.

Drop the pilot
safenoe1 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
William Lucking guests stars as Sam Houston Hunter in this backdoor pilot episode, which I think is the only episode of Magnum, P. I. is a backdoor pilot episode. The pilot never got off the ground (hence the title of my review, Drop the pilot, get it, get it?) so yes, that's what happened. We don't see much of Magnum, Higgins and the rest of the Scooby Gang because the focus is on Texas and Sam Houston Hunter.

William Lucking looks a lot like Vic Morrow, and I remember first seeing William Lucking as Colonel Lynch in The A-Team. Coincidentally, William as replaced by Lance LeGault, who also appeared in Magnum.
