He is all set to escape with the film hidden underneath the stamp on a postcard. While waiting in line at the airport, MacGyver meets American actress Penny Parker. She quickly stuffs a purse with some of the jewels into his pocket to avoid having them taken back by Stepan, a secret police officer and the general's nephew that she has been seeing. After confiscating all of Mac's personal effects, he and Penny are handcuffed together and placed in a holding room. Using a hat rack and a couple of hangers, Mac effects an escape that takes them to a carousel in a park. Once there, he questions Penny and decides his postcard with the microfilm is probably at the Stepan's apartment. Mac breaks in only to have Penny knock at the door. Stepan catches them, but Mac has cooked up a fiery plume in the kitchen. Penny snatches the keys to Stepan's car, and they make a get-away. But there is not enough gas to get to the border.
