Having watched this episode when it premiered in 1989 when I was 11 years old, I was eagerly intrigued to watch it again now at the age of 43. Just the Ten of Us was a great series for me not only as a young Catholic, but a young boy becoming a teenager. The story of a catholic family starting a new life on the west coast while their teenage children grow into adolescence was perfect for my demographic. Not only was in a perfect ABC Friday night lineup for young kids, it was also a turning point for young boys to watch and admire the Lubbock Babes. Such, the premise of this show went from a Goofy family comedy to a comedy with eye candy made up of 4 teenage daughters that covered all spectrum of girls that would appeal to a male teenage audience. The good Catholic girl, the bimbo, the bad blonde and the tom boy gave the audience a full menu to choose from. In the end, very few of these character developed in the three seasons when it aired. However, this episode stands out not only creatively but with great character development from Marie. And Deborah. Both show growth in their characters while the rest of the family does not evolve. With the Catholic faith is still on display with the family values and morals, it is this episode that showcased the uniqueness the series had. Deserving of more seasons, the show was sadly canceled after this season ended in 1990. The series and especially this episode was a marvel for its time.
