A different style of episode and all the better for it.
PC Brian Kelleher approaches Inspector Kate Longton with a personal matter. His sister in law, middle aged divorcee has shacked up with a much younger man who has been released from borstal. His name is John Peter Morton.
Morton is a charmer, we see him taking money from the older woman as he is going to a job interview with a managing director. However he has not been entirely truthful to her.
When he arrives at the interview, it is at the house of an elderly couple who are looking for a live in carer. This well to do couple are also taken in with Morton's lies.
Longton's enquiries raises concerns. The probation officer consider him to be a psychopath who could turn violent if his charm fails.
Actor David Milner gives a an unnerving performance. He is almost angelic, you can see why so many people fall for his lies and yet he turns so easily.
It is also an episode where everyone pulls together. We see Janet Philips return as the probation officer. This time her and Longton get on better. John, the youth worker also returns to give his insights. We get an inkling that both he and Longton are getting closer.
