One of the suspect sailors name is Benjamin Holt. The Benjamin Holt was a liberty ship during WWII (Benjamin Holt (1849 - 1920) was an American inventor who developed Richard Hornsby's design for one of the first practical caterpillar tracks for use in tractors.)
Although creited, Catherine Bell does not appear in this episode
The fictional ship involved here is USS Gillcrist (DDG-14). No ship of the US Navy has ever borne the name Gillcrist. However, there is a retired rear admiral, Paul Gillcrist, who has received two significant honors from the Tailhook Association -- Tailhooker of the Year in 1985 and Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996. The real DDG-14 was USS Franklin Buchanan, a guided-missile destroyer of the Charles Adams class, which served 1962-91. Franklin Buchanan was first an officer in the US Navy who, during the Civil War, served later as the commanding officer of the ironclad CSS Virginia (in the Battle of Hampton Roads) and even later as the only full admiral in the Confederate States Navy.
