During the chase, while the sheriff exchanges radio calls with the deputy in question, on his TV set the sheriff watches Burt Reynolds and others in the movie entitled Smokey and the Bandit.
The site of the car chase is near Somerville, in Somerville County, Virginia. The real town of Somerville is in a woodland just west of the Marine Corps Base at Quantico; it's near the center of a triangle formed by Culpeper, Manassas, and Fredericksburg. However, in Virginia there is no county by the name of Somerville.
Life imitating art: In June 2018, an Army National Guard Lieutenant in Virginia stole an armored personnel carrier and lead police on a chase that ended in Richmond. After being arrested for the theft and DUI, he later claimed he did so under orders as a training exercise, but no commander supported his story.
As happens many, many times in JAG, the film of part of the chase scene shows the deputy on the wrong side of the car. The film was reversed. The film reversals throughout JAG happen many, many, times and are so obvious that they are annoying.
