Pretty hard to believe kids can be that dumb....but they can!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode illustrates that our kids, despite our best efforts, can be quite stupid. The case in point is Alia Kelly--the college-age daughter of Chin Ho Kelly. She SHOULD have known better, but ended up dating a mobster (Erik Estrada--yes, THAT Erik Estrada). The sweet-talking Estrada made lots of promises and talked a good talk, but Alia walked into a marriage with her eyes wide open to a man she was told by many people that he was just no-good. Kids....!

The show opens with two brothers (one was Estrada) threatening a pool room operator to get him to take over-priced machines for his business. To illustrate they mean business, they blow up a car right in front of his place. However, the victim is just too scared to cooperate with Five-O. However, eventually Estrada and his lovely family go too far, as their next target turns out to be a retired cop--and he refuses to knuckle under to their pressure.

As for Estrada, he plays a Jekyll and Hyde sort of fella. On one hand he's a thug. But on the other hand, he seems sweet and kind when he's with Alia. Which is the real him? Tune in and see.

The plot was pretty good and Estrada's father was played by the ever-grouchy Simon Oakland (he played great heavies), so it's worth seeing just for these reasons. Well worth seeing.

Young stars

Casting in TV series of the era had a great record in finding young talents who went on to make major careers for themselves. In this show, we see Erik Estrada, who of course went on a few years later to a long run on CHiPs. Here he plays a nasty extortionist who forces local businesses to "rent" his equipment at exorbitant prices ... or else.

Complicating the situation, Chin Ho's daughter is his girlfriend! Estrada and his brother terrorize the area, prompted by their father, a career criminal himself who was crippled by a policeman's bullet.

When they threaten an ex-cop who's bought bowling alley, they finally run into some resistance and 5-0 gets a chance to go into action.

Fun episode!

Chin gets to play "bad cop" with some bad dudes. Also super cool fusion of "CHiPs" and "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" with Erik Estrada and Simon Oakland playing a ruthless father/son crime duo!

Brilliant Episode!!

The following episode had the combination of the following elements: extortion, protection, retribution, and death. Valdaigo and his buddies enter the pool hall and tear up the cloth on the item. The owner is shocked and outraged at the damage of the property. Valdaigo and his pals paid him off with a $100 bill. The following episode had a former Chicago Police Officer retiring to Hawaii for a new life. Chin Ho Kelly's daughter goes out with Valdaigo behind his back. Valdaigo's second banana rigged the car outside the hospital. Both the officer and an innocent victim were mortally wounded in a car bomb explosion. The second banana is eventually booked for two counts second-degree murder. Chin Ho Kelley roughs up that hoodlum during the interrogation and saying "Why you ..." only to have McGarrett say "CHIN, .... CHIN .... one more outburst from you and you're off the case ... leave him alone. I would like to see that episode at least ten more times on a video tape.
