This episode finally reveals why the crew of the Vaankara acted in the way they did, in the video seen in The Expanse (2003). The crew of the Vaankara had been en route to assist the Seleya.
Though not named on screen, the Vulcan crewmembers of the Seleya were called "Vulcan zombies" behind the scenes by the production staff and performers.
Due to the large number of stunts and action scenes, the Vulcan crew members were played by stunt performers instead of actors. Only seven stunt performers were enrolled: heavy make-up was used to create the illusion that there were dozens of different Vulcans aboard the Seleya.
The Seleya was named for Mount Seleya on Vulcan. This is (or will be, from the show's timeline perspective) also the place where Spock's katra (soul) is returned to his body in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984).
Filming of several scenes was done with a 'narrow shutter angle'. This means that the normal 'motion blur' seen when an object on film moves around is reduced substantially, providing a much harsher and more realistic image that adds to the grittiness of the action.
