Daniel and Josh are in New Orleans, where a chance street encounter brings them into conflict with jewel thief Eugenie Journet (Marj Dusay), who is trying to double cross her cohorts (Aram Katcher and Richard Kiel).
Season 6 of DB gets a boost from a reuse of the urban adventure format, and its a treat for 1960's TV aficionados. Kiel, "Jaws" in James Bond's "Moonraker" installment, is as always plays very oversize muscle taken human form that dominates the small screen even more than his cinematic appearances. Dusay - with at least the benefit of French ancestry - is a convincing damsel in distress, though she is clearly better known as a soaps mainstay and as Kara, the lead cerebellum stealer in "Star Trek: TOS's" "Spock's Brain." And of course corrupt cop and gang leader Captain Roquelet is well portrayed by every-European Leon Askin, a distinguished Austrian stage actor forever known as overbearing German Gen. Burkhalter on "Hogan's Heroes."
A fairly predictive crime caper; Josh is requisitely taken in by feminine charms and its up to sober Dan to straighten him out. Jimmy Dean is now getting top billing on the front credits, possibly to set him up for a never-made spinoff series. The hour plays out entirely on a French Quarter set, but even a couple of outdoor scenes ( SoCal dense foliage next to a riverbank would do ok for Louisiana) would have better established the setting.
But moving on to the historical setting, the DB writers remain convinced that the authority in New Orleans during the series time period was French, and the Spanish were running things in the city at the time. Josh in one scene is singing "Aura Lee," not around until the Civil War.
Spanish soldato summary: we see possibly 2-3 of the whitecoat Louisiana Regiment in background, but more interesting is the attempt of the costumer to portray 3-4 French gendarmes of the French Revolutionary period. Some basic red-blue Maryland Continental uniforms are apparently altered with wider facings, cockades, and chapeaus.
Nostalgia for the departed cast members carries this hour, along the way making it an above-average effort for Season 6.
