- JR Ewing: [after getting Jock's will] Like my Daddy always said... Where there's a way, there's a will.
- Rebecca Barnes Wentworth: [as Afton feeds Cliff soup through a straw] Not too fast, Cliff.
- Afton Cooper: Can I get you anything else?
- Cliff Barnes: No, I'm just a little tired.
- Rebecca Barnes Wentworth: Would you like to talk for a little while longer?
- Cliff Barnes: [as Pamela enters room] No, Mama.
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: Hi. How are you feeling?
- Cliff Barnes: I'm tired.
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: Well, I've got some news I think is gonna make you feel better.
- Cliff Barnes: What?
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: J.R.'s been voted out of Ewing Oil. Bobby's running the company now.
- Afton Cooper: [as Cliff remains silent] It's terrific, isn't it? J.R. is out.
- Cliff Barnes: That doesn't really matter. The Ewings are all the same. Bobby, J.R., it doesn't make any difference.
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: [wants to be alone with Cliff] Mommy, you look real tired. Why don't you and Afton go out and get some fresh air? I'll stay with Cliff.
- Rebecca Barnes Wentworth: All right.
- [gets up, smiles at her son]
- Rebecca Barnes Wentworth: We'll be back soon.
- Cliff Barnes: Okay.
- Afton Cooper: Feel better, okay?
- [strokes his hair, then follows departing Rebecca]
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: [after they've left] You must be very happy.
- Cliff Barnes: Why?
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: Having everybody hover around you... asking if there's anything you need. Mama feeling so guilty, she doesn't even know what time it is.
- Cliff Barnes: Come on, Pam.
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: I thought you were capable of a lot of things, Cliff, but not this.
- Cliff Barnes: Get out of here.
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: I will when I'm through, but I've got a lot to say.
- Cliff Barnes: I don't wanna hear it.
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: Well, you're going to hear it. I didn't think you were a quitter. Even if you didn't care about your own life, what about Mama's?
- Cliff Barnes: About Mama? Mama's the one that fired me. You're a hundred percent Ewing. I lost everything I cared about.
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: You mean Sue Ellen? You only wanted Sue Ellen to get back at J.R.!
- Cliff Barnes: [silent for about three seconds] She's all I had.
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: [scoffs] Really? What about Mama? It broke her heart when she fired you. You didn't give her any other choice. And Afton? Afton's crazy about you. She hasn't left this hospital since you came in. And no matter how angry I get over you, I love you. You're my brother! When we were growing up, I thought you were the most wonderful thing that ever happened!
- Cliff Barnes: [silent for about three seconds] And now?
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: Now I know you're just human... like the rest of us. Except the rest of us take our mistakes and bounce back, Cliff. Even Digger. He was a drunk and a loser... but he played his cards until the end.
- [tearfully:]
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: I know you're a better man than he was.
- [her words strike home with Cliff]
- Serena Wald: [to her young lover] You're not leaving, are you?
- John Baxter: I gotta get home.
- Serena Wald: Don't be silly, it's still early.
- John Baxter: It's nearly ten.
- Serena Wald: Aren't you enjoying yourself?
- John Baxter: [lured back to the bed, sits down next to her] Are you kidding? Your husband must have been a fool to divorce you.
- Serena Wald: He's a lot older. We just weren't compatible. Not like us.
- [her hands go onto his shoulders, they kiss]
- JR Ewing: [enters] Oh, excuse me. John Baxter!
- John Baxter: Mr. Ewing, what are you doing here?
- JR Ewing: Well, this is a Ewing condo. Serena was just staying here.
- Serena Wald: [acting] I'm sorry, J.R. I thought I'd be gone by now.
- JR Ewing: Good Lord, what is Harv Smithfield gonna say when he hears his brand-new son-in-law... was in bed with another woman?
- John Baxter: Mr. Ewing, you wouldn't say anything to him, would you?
- JR Ewing: Well, I don't know what I'm gonna do. I'm a firm believer in the sanctity of marriage, and I'm damn disappointed in you, John.
