The Kristin Affair (1979)
Larry Hagman: J.R. Ewing
Quotes
-
J.R. Ewing : Nothing's gonna stop me now, Vaughn. And Mr. Barnes can go straight to hell.
-
Kristin Shepard : I find it fascinating, especially the secrets.
J.R. Ewing : What secrets?
Kristin Shepard : [chuckles] Don't worry, J.R., I won't tell.
J.R. Ewing : Tell what?
Kristin Shepard : Well, there's the meetings with Mr. Leland and Mr. Hanson. There's Southeast Asia. I don't exactly know what it's all about. But I am sure that it has to do with lots and lots of money. You know, I'll bet Bobby or Uncle Jock...
[nods]
Kristin Shepard : They could figure it out.
J.R. Ewing : Why, you little rascal... You're what they call... a devious wench.
Kristin Shepard : Why, J.R., I thought you liked devious.
J.R. Ewing : I love devious.
[puts his arms around her neck]
J.R. Ewing : Now, what are you gonna do with this newfound knowledge of yours?
Kristin Shepard : Nothing.
J.R. Ewing : You're not gonna tell Bobby or my Daddy?
Kristin Shepard : Of course not. Why, your Daddy might remove you from Ewing Oil. And where would that leave me?
J.R. Ewing : [shakes his head] You're one smart lady.
Kristin Shepard : All I want, J.R., is for you to keep coming back. No one-night stands.
J.R. Ewing : Kristin, with your mind and your body... It just might take me a lifetime to figure you out.
Kristin Shepard : J.R., you just pushed all the right buttons.
[passionate kiss]
-
J.R. Ewing : [J.R. has just been flirting with Kristin when Sue Ellen comes out in a bathing suit] Sue Ellen? Pretty hot out here. Maybe we ought to go back upstairs.
Sue Ellen Ewing : Oh?
J.R. Ewing : Yeah, it's early yet. We got plenty of time before I have to go to work.
Sue Ellen Ewing : [gives him an ice-cold look] I love your sudden urges, J.R. They're almost as romantic as, eh, your daddy's pit bull.
-
Kristin Shepard : I'm not looking for a one-night stand, J.R.
J.R. Ewing : I know you're not.
Kristin Shepard : Isn't that what this would be, give or take a night or two?
J.R. Ewing : I hope you're not expecting any promises from me.
Kristin Shepard : Oh, no, J.R., I wouldn't do that. Not ever.
J.R. Ewing : Good.
Kristin Shepard : I need a little time to think. Can you understand that?
J.R. Ewing : I'm not exactly a patient man.
Kristin Shepard : I promise I won't take forever to make a decision.
J.R. Ewing : Kristin, you just take all the time you need.
-
J.R. Ewing : If you don't wanna fight Cliff Barnes, just tell me. Just come out and say so.
Bobby Ewing : Look, I'm as commited as you are to getting Cliff Barnes out of office but it doesn't entail a daily trip to Austin. Unless you're trying to cover up something down here. And I'm not talking about your considerable attention to your wife's sister.
-
Mrs. Shepard : [elderly romance] We're strongly attracted to each other. Uh, spiritually, I mean.
Lucy Ewing : Well, I'm so glad it isn't physical or anything.
Miss Ellie Ewing : Lucy!
Lucy Ewing : Why, I'll bet Mrs. Shepard's glad, aren't you, Mrs. Shepard?
[smiles]
Mrs. Shepard : [resignedly] Yes, Lucy. Oh, I wish Kristin could come with us, but of course she has her own plans.
Kristin Shepard : I'm really gonna miss Dallas. I honestly don't wanna go back to Santa Fe.
Bobby Ewing : Well, you probably should. All your friends are there.
Pamela Barnes Ewing : You must wanna say goodbye to everybody before you go to California. USC Architectural School, that's really exciting, Kristin.
Kristin Shepard : But I feel as if I'm...
[shakes her head]
Kristin Shepard : missing something. Maybe I'm rushing into this architecture thing too fast.
Mrs. Shepard : The answer to my dreams is to have Kristin marry the right man.
J.R. Ewing : Oh, I'm sure she will, Patricia.
Kristin Shepard : I'd even settle for a job until next term.
J.R. Ewing : A job, really?
[nods]
J.R. Ewing : Well, maybe we could work something out, uh... Say, Bob, maybe she can fill in for Louella. On a temporary basis.
[explaining to the others:]
J.R. Ewing : Louella's my secretary. She's getting married.
Mrs. Shepard : Oh, yes, Jock mentioned it to Kristin and me earlier.
Bobby Ewing : Well, I imagine Kristin will find office work a little boring.
Kristin Shepard : Oh, no, from what I've heard, Ewing Oil sounds fascinating.
[unnoticed, Lucy quietly mocks her]
J.R. Ewing : Well, let's give it a try. What do you say?
Kristin Shepard : [throws her hair back] Oh, I'd love that.
J.R. Ewing : Well, how about you, Patricia, do you think it's a good idea?
Mrs. Shepard : Well, uh, if that's what Kristin wants... But I have given up the apartment.
Lucy Ewing : Well, I don't think Kristin will be too happy here on Southfork. It's much too isolated for her.
Kristin Shepard : Oh, I wouldn't think of imposing.
J.R. Ewing : I wouldn't worry about that. I think Ewing Oil could find a place you'd be comfortable in. Uhm... what about the Oakside condo, Dad? That's available, isn't it?
Jock Ewing : Uh, let's see, the Oakside... the Oakside condo... Yeah, that's available.
J.R. Ewing : [to Kristin] Well, then, there you are. Your got your own little place down in Dallas.
[Kristin is elated, Sue Ellen scowls]
Mrs. Shepard : I don't know. Sue Ellen, what do you think? Is Kristin doing the right thing?
Sue Ellen Ewing : [steely] I think that Kristin always knows exactly what she's doing.
[Kristin regards her coldly]
J.R. Ewing : [smiling at Kristin] Well, there you go, start work tomorrow.
[chuckles]
-
J.R. Ewing : [much taken with his young sister-in-law as she emerges from swimming pool in bikini] Well, looking very fetching this morning. Sleep well?
Kristin Shepard : Oh, yes. I just love spending the night here. Makes me feel more like one of the family.
J.R. Ewing : You are part of the family.
Kristin Shepard : Mama;s gonna be so jealous when I tell her what a good time I've had here. She'll be sorry that she stayed last night in Dallas after the party.
J.R. Ewing : Well, I suppose she's got a lot of packing to do before her European trip. I guess you have some packing to do too. We're all gonna miss you when you go back to Santa Fe.
Kristin Shepard : Thank you, J.R.
J.R. Ewing : Have a nice day
