Larry Hagman: J.R. Ewing
Quotes
-
J.R. Ewing : Afton, it's very important to me that he likes you.
Afton Cooper : I know, but I don't even know him. Maybe he won't like me.
J.R. Ewing : Of course he will. You just turn on that charm, honey. You're a performer. Perform.
Afton Cooper : It's different, I don't like doing this.
J.R. Ewing : No, it's not different. It's exactly the same as what you did for me with Cliff Barnes.
Afton Cooper : J.R., you were in big trouble then.
J.R. Ewing : Afton, you've been talking about getting a better singing job than the one you have at Star Drift.
Afton Cooper : I know, but...
J.R. Ewing : And a recording contract...
Afton Cooper : A recording contract? Are you sure?
J.R. Ewing : Have I ever let you down? Even once?
Afton Cooper : [sighs] No.
J.R. Ewing : All right. You take care of that banker, and I'll take care of you.
J.R. Ewing : [uneasy silence, doorbell rings, he stands up, opens door] Well, Vaughn, how you doing?
Vaughn Leland : J.R. I still don't understand why you wanted us to meet here.
[sees Afton]
Vaughn Leland : But I must say, I think it's a splendid idea.
J.R. Ewing : Vaughn Leland, this is Afton Cooper, a very good friend of mine.
Vaughn Leland : Well, I'm delighted to meet you.
[takes her hand, all Southern gentleman charm]
Afton Cooper : [softly] Thank you, it's nice to meet you.
J.R. Ewing : Why don't you get Vaughn a drink? A neat Scotch. Yes. Why don't we get down to business?
Vaughn Leland : Yes, let's do that, J.R. All right, bottom line, what's in it for me?
J.R. Ewing : A very healthy finder's fee for securing that loan.
Vaughn Leland : And?
J.R. Ewing : Oh, certain perks. Delightful perks.
Vaughn Leland : [chuckles] Well, J.R., we got a deal.
J.R. Ewing : Good.
[everybody's much pleased, except Afton, of course]
