Quotes

  • Mandy Winger : [bare legs, sporty nightshirt]  Who is it?

    J.R. Ewing : It's me.

Mandy Winger : [gets up, walks to door]  At this hour?

J.R. Ewing : Mandy, let me in, please.

Mandy Winger : [opens door]  J.R., it's very late.

    J.R. Ewing : I'm sorry

    [sighs]

J.R. Ewing : I need to be with somebody I really care for.

    Mandy Winger : All right.

    [stands back]

    J.R. Ewing : Thanks.

    [enters]

J.R. Ewing : Thank you, honey.

    [chuckles]

Mandy Winger : [as he lays down his hat, she closes the door]  I was just about to go to bed. Will you tell me what this is all about?

J.R. Ewing : Well, I had a pretty rough time. I don't... have anybody I can talk to.

    [pours drink]

J.R. Ewing : Want some, darling?

Mandy Winger : No, I don't want any.

    [little sigh]

Mandy Winger : Is this really J.R. Ewing? The killer in the oil business everyone talks about?

J.R. Ewing : Also a man with a very serious personal problem. You know how important my family is to me. It's all falling apart at the seams.

Mandy Winger : You're having problems with your wife?

J.R. Ewing : Yes. But that's not what's really bothering me.

Mandy Winger : What is it? Just an excuse to be here, or another one of your manipulations?

J.R. Ewing : No, Mandy, I hurt like any other person. The Ewings always used to close ranks whenever there was trouble from outside the family, but now things changed. My brother and I are on one side, and my Mama and her new husband are on the other, and I tell you, it's just damn damn painful.

Mandy Winger : You know, this is... pretty personal stuff. How do you know you can trust me? I was spying on you for Cliff not so long ago.

    J.R. Ewing : [smiles]  Yeah.

    [comes forward]

J.R. Ewing : But that's all finished with Barnes now, isn't it?

    Mandy Winger : Maybe...

    [looking up into his eyes:]

Mandy Winger : But I can't slip in and out of these things so easily. And I'm certainly not ready for another man in my life.

J.R. Ewing : [drapes his arm over her shoulder]  Damn, I care for you so much.

Mandy Winger : And I really like you. But that's all for right now. J.R., I think you better go.

    J.R. Ewing : I don't want to be alone.

Mandy Winger : Well, I... certainly can't stay up any longer to keep you company... and I won't sleep with you.

    J.R. Ewing : I didn't ask you to.

    [sighs]

J.R. Ewing : I... just wanna spend the night, that's all.

Mandy Winger : All right. But right there.

J.R. Ewing : [little scoff]  Okay.

Mandy Winger : [with a little smirk as she opens door to go off to her room]  I never thought of you as being vulnerable before. But you are, aren't you?

    J.R. Ewing : Yes, I suppose so.

    [as she turns to leave:]

J.R. Ewing : Mandy... Good night.

[she closes the door behind her with a smile]
