- Lucy Ewing: [to Pamela] This is supposed to be my birthday party. Grandma is making out the invitation list. Sue Ellen is gonna hire some old-fogy band. And J.R.'s gonna use it for one of his big deals. And now you're gonna buy my clothes. I HATE THIS FAMILY!
- Miss Ellie Ewing: What about music?
- Sue Ellen Ewing: I've arranged for Forester and his band. They still play music you can dance to.
- Lucy Ewing: Forester? He can't even play bubble-gum rock. I thought you were gonna hire a group from Austin, like The Coffins.
- [smiles]
- Miss Ellie Ewing: Ugh, what terrible names.
- Sue Ellen Ewing: Lucy, no one can stand that music.
- Lucy Ewing: Well, I can. And I thought this party was supposed to be for my birthday.
- Sue Ellen Ewing: [condescending] Lucy, dear, why don't you let us do the planning? You just come and enjoy yourself, and you'll have a great time.
- Lucy Ewing: Sure. And if I'm lucky, you'll even invite my friends.
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: [at dinner table] Lucy. I thought you were gonna come into the store today, pick out a dress for your birthday.
- Sue Ellen Ewing: I looked for you after school. I wanted to pick you up and take you to town.
- Lucy Ewing: I don't want a new dress.
- Miss Ellie Ewing: But it's your birthday.
- Lucy Ewing: Well, there is something I'd like more.
- Jock Ewing: Well, now, you just name it, sweetheart, and I'll buy it for you, okay?
- Lucy Ewing: You can't buy it, Grand-Daddy, nobody can.
- [with pointed look at J.R.:]
- Lucy Ewing: Even if they said they did.
- [J.R. looks up uncomfortably, and Bobby frowns]
- Miss Ellie Ewing: Lucy, what are you talking about?
- Lucy Ewing: I want my Mama invited to my birthday party.
- Bobby Ewing: [to Pamela, who's showing off her dress by the pool] I love it. But it wouldn't look that good on a hanger.
