Quotes

  • Kit Mainwaring : I've got to call off the wedding. And I don't know how to tell Lucy.

Bobby Ewing : What do you mean "got to"?

Kit Mainwaring : I just can't go through with it.

Bobby Ewing : Oh, c'mon, Kit. There's got to be a reason. There's got to be some kind of explanation.

Kit Mainwaring : I just wish you'd take my word on this, Bobby. It's not the best thing.

Bobby Ewing : You know what this is going to do to Lucy? You better think of something better than you changed your mind.

Kit Mainwaring : [walks slowly to the window, pauses, turns]  This is very hard, Bobby. Very difficult. I'm a homosexual.

    [long pause]

Kit Mainwaring : Bobby, now, it would really help me if you could say something now.

Bobby Ewing : [stunned]  I will... as soon as I think of something to say. You've sort of taken me by surprise.

  • Lucy Ewing : [Kit and Lucy are kissing when J.R.'s car pulls into the driveway]  Oh, shoot. My uncle J.R.

    Kit Mainwaring : So what?

Lucy Ewing : Nothing makes him meaner than the sight of people enjoying themselves.

  • Kit Mainwaring : I really didn't mean for this to happen, Bobby. When I started going out with Lucy it was because I thought it would be good for my image. But then things changed. I mean, she's so full of life. When she wants something she goes for it. So I started out admiring Lucy, and ended up loving her. And I thought she woulld change my life for me.

Bobby Ewing : Well, what changed your mind?

Kit Mainwaring : [pauses, hesitating, weighing his words]  I slept with Lucy last night. But it didn't do what I expected. It didn't change anything. I'm the same person today I was yesterday. I'm still a homosexual. It's just not fair for me to marry her.

  • Lucy Ewing : Kit, do you really have to take me home?

Kit Mainwaring : Yeah, I don't think it would be a very good idea for you to stay.

Lucy Ewing : Why not, hmm?

[they kiss, but after a short while, he breaks away]

Lucy Ewing : What's the matter?

Kit Mainwaring : You're awfully young, Lucy.

Lucy Ewing : We've been seeing each other for a while now. You said you cared about me. Didn't you mean it?

Kit Mainwaring : Yes, I did mean it.

    [but looks troubled]

Lucy Ewing : You don't want me?

Kit Mainwaring : I don't know what I'm supposed to do here now. Do you want me to treat you like you're cheap or something? Would that make you happy?

Lucy Ewing : [all big eyes]  No. No, that wouldn't make me happy.

Kit Mainwaring : I do care about you, you know. Very much.

Lucy Ewing : Do you really?

Kit Mainwaring : Yes, I really do. And I'm not gonna do anything as long as I think it might hurt you.

    [they kiss again]

  • J.R. Ewing : I understand your Daddy's building a new oil refinery down on the Gulf?

Kit Mainwaring : We filed the environmental impact report. It's looking pretty good right now.

Lucy Ewing : [petulantly]  Now, you two aren't gonna start talking business, are you?

J.R. Ewing : Of course not. I'm not gonna ruin your evening, now... I figure you kids are getting tired of us old folks, so I think I'll just fold up Sue Ellen and we'll steal away into the night. Oh, I, uhm, called Jimmy's Disco, said you might be dropping in. Lucy said you like to dance there, and... and you guys go and have a good time. It's on me.

    Kit Mainwaring : Thank you.
