Royal Marriage (1979)
Patrick Duffy: Bobby Ewing
Quotes
-
Bobby Ewing : [J.R. is elated after sealing a refinery deal with Chris Mainwaring] J.R., if marriage is the basis for that deal, you better find some other terms and fast.
J.R. Ewing : What are you talking about?
Bobby Ewing : Kit's going to stop the wedding.
J.R. Ewing : Oh, no, he's not. That boy's gonna marry Lucy no matter what.
Bobby Ewing : No, he's not, J.R., and it's better for her that he doesn't.
J.R. Ewing : Now, don't tell me no. This refinery is just beginning. We've got a lot at stake here.
Bobby Ewing : And what about Lucy?
J.R. Ewing : Lucy? What's she got to do with this?
Bobby Ewing : It's her life we're talking about!
J.R. Ewing : [breathes a sigh of condescending resignation] Bobby, c'mon. Women marry homosexuals all the time. It seems to suit a lot of 'em. Now, she's in love with this boy, she's gonna marry him. Lucy's gonna be all right. It's gonna be just fine.
Bobby Ewing : You knew about this all the time, didn't ya?
J.R. Ewing : Well, there's very little that goes on in Dallas that I don't know about. And when it comes to somebody as important to me as Mainwaring, I make it my business to find out everything about him.
Bobby Ewing : Just when I think I know how low you are, J.R., you surprise me and reach a whole new depth.
J.R. Ewing : Bobby, there's no need to become insulting. I have everybody's interests at heart, you know that. And like I said, Lucy's gonna be just fine.
-
Kit Mainwaring : I've got to call off the wedding. And I don't know how to tell Lucy.
Bobby Ewing : What do you mean "got to"?
Kit Mainwaring : I just can't go through with it.
Bobby Ewing : Oh, c'mon, Kit. There's got to be a reason. There's got to be some kind of explanation.
Kit Mainwaring : I just wish you'd take my word on this, Bobby. It's not the best thing.
Bobby Ewing : You know what this is going to do to Lucy? You better think of something better than you changed your mind.
Kit Mainwaring : [walks slowly to the window, pauses, turns] This is very hard, Bobby. Very difficult. I'm a homosexual.
[long pause]
Kit Mainwaring : Bobby, now, it would really help me if you could say something now.
Bobby Ewing : [stunned] I will... as soon as I think of something to say. You've sort of taken me by surprise.
-
Bobby Ewing : [watching Kit and Lucy disco dancing] Y'know, the more I see of that kid the more I like him.
Pamela Barnes Ewing : Me too. He's so nice! Now, I don't understand those rumors a few years ago about his family having so much trouble with him.
Bobby Ewing : It was just the usual thing. He was a rich kid who didn't want to get involved in the family business. Played around, drank a little too much. I think he's settled down now.
Pamela Barnes Ewing : Sounds like somebody I know.
Bobby Ewing : [laughs] But my folks thought I was exceptionally cute.
-
Kit Mainwaring : I really didn't mean for this to happen, Bobby. When I started going out with Lucy it was because I thought it would be good for my image. But then things changed. I mean, she's so full of life. When she wants something she goes for it. So I started out admiring Lucy, and ended up loving her. And I thought she woulld change my life for me.
Bobby Ewing : Well, what changed your mind?
Kit Mainwaring : [pauses, hesitating, weighing his words] I slept with Lucy last night. But it didn't do what I expected. It didn't change anything. I'm the same person today I was yesterday. I'm still a homosexual. It's just not fair for me to marry her.
