Quotes

  • Pamela Barnes Ewing : Hi.

    [enters]

Pamela Barnes Ewing : You all right?

Cliff Barnes : Oh, yeah, I'm all right.

[raises what is obviously yet another glass to his lips]

Cliff Barnes : Practically the best day of my life.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : I'm so sorry, Cliff. I know how much it hurts you.

Cliff Barnes : What, that your husband got the nomination? Don't know why that should bother me.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Come on...

Cliff Barnes : No, really. I should have known it. I was born to be dumped on by the Ewings. As a matter of fact, sometimes I think that the good Lord placed me on this earth for that specific purpose.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : I don't think It's so wonderful either.

Cliff Barnes : Really? Why is that? Because you know I wanted Dave's Senate seat more than anything else in this world, or because maybe now Bobby will miss a few dinners while he's in Austin?

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Look, don't take it out on me!

Cliff Barnes : [in the tone of a commoner speaking to a lady]  Oh, sorry, Mrs. Ewing, didn't mean to hurt your feelings.

    [sits down, beaten]

Cliff Barnes : Welcome to the club.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Before you blame it on Bobby, What make you so sure you'd have been chosen if he hadn't taken it?

Cliff Barnes : Right, right. Maybe I'm not as good as I think I am. But I'll tell you something, I could've accepted anybody else but a Ewing.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Oh, come on. Bobby didn't take it to hurt you. He probably never even thought about you.

    Cliff Barnes : Right. Yeah.

    [with irony:]

Cliff Barnes : Well, that makes it better.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : [sits down next to him]  I'm sorry, Cliff. I didn't come here to fight.

    [her arm around him]

Pamela Barnes Ewing : I came here to help.

Cliff Barnes : I don't want any help. I just wanna sit here and be bitter, full of self-pity, and hate the Ewings! There! Now you see I've said everything you would have accused me of saying. So why don't you just get the hell out of here, go somewhere?

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Fine. But you forgot smug and stupid. The fact that you're a royal pain in the behind. And it will be a pleasure to get out of here.

  • J.R. Ewing : [told that Bobby's set to become senator]  Well, that's wonderful. Bobby, I'm so proud of you. You're exactly where you should be, you know that? And, Pam, I'm sure you helped Bobby no end.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Are you, J.R.?

    J.R. Ewing : Of course I am.
