Quotes

  • Alex Ward : Let's have lunch together sometime. I was serious about doing more work with The Store.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Well, that would be nice, Mr. Ward.

    Alex Ward : Please, Alex.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Oh, Alex, of course.

Alex Ward : Is something wrong, Pam?

Pamela Barnes Ewing : No, no. I'm supposed to have lunch with my husband and he's very late.

Alex Ward : He's crazy. I can't imagine anything being more important than having lunch with you. Unless... he was having dinner with you.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : [Bobby's red Mercedes-Benz pulls up, car horn honks twice]  Excuse me, there he Is!

    Alex Ward : Oh, sure.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : [walks over to car]  Bobby!

Bobby Ewing : Honey, forgive me.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : That's all right. You're here now.

Bobby Ewing : No, Pam. I cant make lunch today. I'm sorry, but I'm on my way to the accountants right now.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Bobby, I've got to talk to you. I waited up half of last night for you.

Bobby Ewing : Pam, I can't talk about it now. But I promise it won't happen again. But I really have to go.

[starts engine, pulls away, as Alex observes]

    Pamela Barnes Ewing : Bobby...!

[folds arms as she peers after departing vehicle]

Alex Ward : [closing in]  I said he was crazy. I think you need cheering up. How about lunch?

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Why not?

  • Sue Ellen Ewing : [comes down the stairs in bathing suit, on her way to the pool]  Well, you're keeping banking hours.

Bobby Ewing : No, I just thought I'd get home before dinner one time this week.

Sue Ellen Ewing : Well, it's difficult running a company like Ewing Oil. As J.R. knows. You can't really call your soul your own.

Bobby Ewing : I think I can, Sue Ellen. Besides, it's not my soul I'm worried about. It's the company.

Sue Ellen Ewing : Really? What's the problem?

Bobby Ewing : No problems. I just wanna make sure Ewing Oil plays by the rules and nobody gets hurt.

Sue Ellen Ewing : Rules. J.R. always says that when it comes to power, there are no rules.

Bobby Ewing : Well, that's where my brother and I part company.

    [turns away]

Bobby Ewing : I don't want power for power's sake.

Sue Ellen Ewing : Don't worry about It, Bobby. You'll never get it.

Bobby Ewing : And what makes you so sure, Sue Ellen?

Sue Ellen Ewing : It's all a game, Bobby. You have to love it to play it well.

Bobby Ewing : You're making a study of power, are you?

Sue Ellen Ewing : Don't you forget who I've been married to for the last ten years. He understands power. He controls and manipulates. He makes people afraid. He's a natural-born fighter... the best.

Bobby Ewing : [swallows]  And me?

Sue Ellen Ewing : [pitying smile]  You're J.R.'s little brother.

    [smirks at him, walks away]

  • Bobby Ewing : [on bedroom phone]  Well, she should have been home a couple hours ago. I'm starting to worry. Okay, look, if she comes in, would you...?

[Pamela enters, places her handbag down]

Bobby Ewing : Wait a minute. She just came in the door. Thanks, Liz. Bye-bye.

    [cradles receiver, stands up]

Bobby Ewing : Hi, honey. You look tired.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Didn't Connie tell you I called?

Bobby Ewing : No, I didn't go back to the office. Was it important?

Pamela Barnes Ewing : It doesn't matter.

Bobby Ewing : Well, yes, it does matter. What's wrong? Pam, would you talk to me, please?

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Does it really matter to you what I have to say?

Bobby Ewing : Now what are you talking about?

Pamela Barnes Ewing : I found my mother.

Bobby Ewing : Well, that's wonderful.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : No, it's not. She doesn't want me or Cliff. The investigator I hired found her in Houston. She's beautiful, she's rich, and she's married. She has been for the past twenty years. She has no intention of telling her husband that she had two children, plus a husband that she never bothered to divorce. Excuse me, Bobby, I've gotta go change. Everybody's waiting.

Bobby Ewing : Pam, I'm sorry, I know how this must hurt.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Do you even care? I've been trying to tell you for the past few days.

Bobby Ewing : Well, I know. I've had an awful lot on my mind lately.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Oh, don't tell me. Let me guess. Ewing Oil?

Bobby Ewing : That has to come first right now.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : First? Before our marriage, you mean?

Bobby Ewing : No, that's not what I mean.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : You know what I think? I think it doesn't matter whether I am here or not. If I come home or if I stay out all night, all you care about is your business.

Bobby Ewing : Pam, I have certain responsibilities. This has been a very hard time for me.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Well, remember me? I live here too!

Bobby Ewing : [yells]  Did it ever occur to you that I might need a little support from you now and then?

Pamela Barnes Ewing : [yells back]  You get it from me! What difference does it make? You're never home! And even when you are, you might as well still be at the office. I can't reach you!

Bobby Ewing : [angrily heads for door]  If you want me to apologize for my work, forget it.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Where are you going?

Bobby Ewing : I'm gonna spend the night at the condo. I need some time to think things over. We both do.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Well, I'm sorry, Bobby.

Bobby Ewing : Yeah, so am I.

[out the door, leaving her fuming]

  • J.R. Ewing : [inside Cattlemen's Club]  Daddy, I tell you, I haven't seen you in such high spirits in months.

    [to Punk and Pat:]

J.R. Ewing : I think you boys ought to start planning a new project right away.

Jock Ewing : Well, I'll tell you something, J.R., you're right. But first, I wanna tie one on.

    [another drink]

Jock Ewing : How about It?

Bobby Ewing : [entering]  Well, this looks like some kind of party. Why wasn't I invited?

J.R. Ewing : Well, sit down, Bobby. We've got a lot of room, a lot of booze.

Bobby Ewing : Thank you, J.R. That's real kind of you. And maybe you can explain something to me. Like why I wasn't told that Daddy was gonna pull ten million dollars out of Ewing Oil accounts. Did that slip your mind?

Jock Ewing : [warning finger]  Now you just hold on, Bobby. J.R. don't discuss my business with you or anybody else unless I tell him. You understand?

Bobby Ewing : Okay, Daddy. Then why didn't you tell me? Didn't you think I should know?

Jock Ewing : I was gonna tell you tonight.

Bobby Ewing : [yells]  Tonight? I want those kind of things discussed with me before you act, not after! Your dealing behind my back is making me look like a fool.

Jock Ewing : Just what the hell are you talking about?

Bobby Ewing : I called Les at the bank and asked him to transfer twelve million dollars from the account.

Jock Ewing : So what? We've got a hundred times that much.

Bobby Ewing : I'm talking liquid assets. Cash, Daddy, cash! And we don't have that amount. And you know why? Because you took ten million dollars!

Jock Ewing : [jumps up, glares at Bobby]  You're damn right I took It! It's mine!

Bobby Ewing : That money belongs to Ewing Oil!

Jock Ewing : And who in the hell do you think Ewing Oil is? It's me! Ewing Oil belongs to me, and don't you forget it, boy.

Bobby Ewing : And you gave me Ewing Oil to run, in writing. And that makes you obliged to consult me before you do anything that concerns that company!

Jock Ewing : Obliged? You telling me that I'm obliged to ask you to spend my own money any damn way I see fit?

Bobby Ewing : Dad, that's right. You gave me that company to run, and damn It, I intend to run It!

Jock Ewing : So I gave you power, huh? Well, let me tell you something, boy, if I did give you power, you got nothing! Nobody gives you power. Real power is something you take!

Bobby Ewing : Well, I'm gonna remember that.

Jock Ewing : You do that.

[Bobby rushes off and everybody sits in stunned silence]

    Jock Ewing : Well?

J.R. Ewing : [to waitress]  Another round for the table, please, miss?
