Quotes

  • JR Ewing : [speaking to Sue Ellen regarding Lucy]  She changes her men like other women change their stockings.

  • JR Ewing : Pardon me, miss. I'm looking for a Mandy Winger. Do you know where I could find her?

Mandy Winger : [laughs]  Mr. Ewing, what are you doing?

JR Ewing : Just delivering some flowers.

    [bouquet of yellow roses]

Mandy Winger : You don't waste any time, do you?

JR Ewing : Oh, I've been known to travel in the fast track.

Mandy Winger : How did you find me?

JR Ewing : Well, I could say I looked your name up in the phone directory, but you have an unlisted number.

Mandy Winger : I was getting calls from a lot of creeps and weirdos.

JR Ewing : Well, I talked to the owner of the restaurant where we met, and he told me the name of your agency, the rest was easy.

Mandy Winger : [scoffs]  They're not supposed to give out my address.

JR Ewing : Obviously they don't think I'm a creep or weirdo.

Mandy Winger : [chuckles]  Well, I'll tell you what you are. You're lucky you found me at home, I don't spend much time here.

JR Ewing : I take it you're involved with somebody?

Mandy Winger : [softly]  Sort of.

JR Ewing : I'd be real surprised if you weren't. But I thrive on competition.

Mandy Winger : I kind of expected you'd say that. You seem like a man who knows what you want and knows how to go after it.

JR Ewing : [chuckles]  I'm afraid I've got that reputation. Say, why don't you go put those flowers in some water? We'll go out for some lunch and talk and get to know each other.

Mandy Winger : [snickers]  It's, usually my day for shopping and all kinds of chores.

JR Ewing : Well, I think lunch is a much better idea, don't you?

Mandy Winger : I don't wanna be cooped up in some restaurant. How do you feel about picnics?

JR Ewing : Picnics? Do I look like a man who likes to sit on the grass with a bunch of ants and chiggers? I tell you what, let's see where the day takes us.

Mandy Winger : You're a very persuasive man, J.R. Ewing. Just let me take these inside and I'll come right back.

JR Ewing : Good, good, good.

  • JR Ewing : [swanky private box at baseball stadium]  Here's to picnic, Ewing style.

    [clinks her glass]

    Mandy Winger : I'll say.

JR Ewing : Tell me, where are you from? You weren't born in Dallas, were you?

Mandy Winger : Ohio. A little town not too far from Akron. When the wind was wrong, you could smell the tyres being made.

JR Ewing : [chuckles]  What did your father do?

Mandy Winger : He ran a pretty good-sized machine shop. He was a wonderful man. Mom was pretty terrific too. I think they're the ones who gave me the good feeling I have about myself.

JR Ewing : How do they feel about your... well, your modeling?

Mandy Winger : Well, my Daddy died a few years ago. And I guess my Mom always expected I'd become a model.

    [shrugs]

Mandy Winger : Just out of high school, though, they sent me to secretarial school for protection. Daddy said "If you can type, you can always work."

JR Ewing : [chuckles]  It would be a shame to hide that beauty of yours in an office.

Mandy Winger : That's the way I felt.

    [J.R. thinks she's conceited]

Mandy Winger : I've... always, known I was beautiful. That's the reason men come on to me. I do have a brain, but they usually don't stick around long enough to find that out.

JR Ewing : Oh, he admires your brain, does he?

Mandy Winger : He does. It's just not the whole story. Remember when you first saw me in the restaurant and right away made a little pass at me? Guys have been doing that since junior high. But this man... When I first met him, I liked him a lot. We spent a whole evening together, and a few days later he didn't remember who I was.

JR Ewing : Really? If you ask me, it doesn't sound like he's playing with a full deck.

Mandy Winger : [chuckles]  Hardly. He's very successful.

JR Ewing : Does he treat you well? I mean, nice little gifts and, uh, creative lunches like this?

Mandy Winger : [smiles wistfully]  I've never had a lunch like this with anyone before. No, my boyfriend's big on take-outs. We eat out of paper containers a lot.

    [chuckles]

JR Ewing : Do you enjoy that?

Mandy Winger : Well, frankly, I'd prefer a little more luxury.

JR Ewing : Well, that's, the meaning of the Ewing name: luxury. Can I take it you won't refuse another invitation to have lunch with me?

Mandy Winger : [chuckles]  Where are we going to eat next time? Your jet?

JR Ewing : [chuckles]  Well, we could. I've got one.
