Larry Hagman: J.R. Ewing

Quotes

  • Phyllis Wapner : I'm sorry, sir, you can't go in there. They're in a meeting.

    Cliff Barnes : Ewing! Ewing!

J.R. Ewing : [rising from behind desk]  Who is this?

Phyllis Wapner : [as J.R. comes out of his office]  I'm sorry. He barged right in.

Cliff Barnes : Oh, I thought I might get you alone, J.R. I'm sorry, I see you got company.

J.R. Ewing : What are you doing here, Barnes?

Cliff Barnes : Just dropped by to try and save you some money.

Ray Krebbs : [to Donna]  That'll be the day.

J.R. Ewing : [to Cliff]  What are you talking about?

Cliff Barnes : You cannot believe how surprised I was to discover that not all Ewings are bad. As a matter of fact, I have one for a partner now. And she gave me a copy of this document that says that I own one third of Ewing Oil. Of course I know you already know that.

[having a whale of a time:]

Cliff Barnes : But I just thought it would save ourselves a lot of aggravation if we just split up the company now.

J.R. Ewing : It will be a cold day in hell before you get a piece of my company.

Cliff Barnes : [all jovial]  Whatever the weather is, I can wait, because it's mine! You see, I figured as much as we're all gonna be partners,

    [chuckles]

Cliff Barnes : why deplete our assets with a lot of heavy legal fees? Oh, no offense, Harv.

[old Mr. Smithfield gives him a sour scowl]

J.R. Ewing : [comes forward]  Get out of my office, Barnes!

Cliff Barnes : [chuckles]  I'm just trying to be nice. Oh, incidentally, this isn't gonna be your office that much longer. You see, your little cousin Jamie and I will be the majority shareholders, and we might want that office for ourselves. But... if you play your cards right, we might let you and Bobby split up this secretary area.

    [chuckles merrily, turns, leaves]

  • Mandy Winger : [picks up phone]  Hello?

J.R. Ewing : Well, hello there. Nice talking to you. I was afraid I might get your answering machine.

Mandy Winger : [coldly]  Hello, J.R. What do you want?

J.R. Ewing : Well, I wanna see you, that's what I want. I thought maybe we could get together.

Mandy Winger : For what? So you can tell me about the latest manipulations of J.R. Ewing?

J.R. Ewing : Uh, Mandy, is something wrong?

Mandy Winger : I'm a woman, not an oilman, and I don't give a damn about your wheeling and dealing!

J.R. Ewing : Well, I... try to talk about other things on occasion, I...

    [she slams down the phone]
