- Luca's closest friend and associate Paulie Taglia testifies against him, after out of control Luca rapes his girlfriend. L.A. crime boss Nat Martino tries to push Luca out of Vegas. Luca learns Martino's big secret and fights back.
- A jury-tampering ploy by Everett Steele & Frank Holman reprieves Ray Luca from his murder trial despite the damning testimony of Paulie Taglia, now a Federal witness protected in a nuclear bomb shelter. But Luca has no time to celebrate: Los Angeles crime boss Nat Martino is making moves to take over the Luca-Kordo Las Vegas empire. The continuing case against Luca, plus Manny Weisbord's fury that Luca has weakened himself by offending Paulie & trying to kill Max Goldman, places Ray in a very tough position. Despite his instincts to violence, he accepts Weisbord's dictum to work as a partner with the hated Martino and move into the background. This renders information provided to the Task Force by Charlie Riccio, Martino's personal driver who is also an old friend of Mike Torrello, useless. As Torrello surveys the carnage wrought by Martino, he's stunned to learn that Martino is actually a high-value FBI informant. Trapped in his bomb shelter cell, despairing of ever getting revenge on Luca & missing his old life, Paulie makes a fateful decision. Frank Holman's dalliance with a pretty girl turns into an opportunity when he learns that she's a Justice Department typist who has enough of a crush on him to bring him the files on Outfit leaders, including Martino. Learning that Martino is an informant, Luca disregards Weisbord's orders and goes to war with Martino--and right into Torrello's trap.
