- [Cliff picks up something strange from Theo's desk and stares at it]
- Theo: I don't know what it is Dad, but I can't throw it away until I find out.
- Cliff: You know, son, a long, long time ago, three to four generations ago, parents didn't talk much to their children. Father would come in, look at his son sleeping around 4 o'clock in the morning. He'd shake the boy and he'd say "Boy, go out and plough the field now". And the boy would wipe his eye and say "Yes, Pa". And occasionally, the son would say, "How much do I get paid, Pa?" And his pa would get the plough and run over his son. Those days are over, because we have become more civilized, more sophisticated, but it's still inside of me no matter how sophisticated I get. And it grows over time. Boy, when I say to one of my children to do something and they say "How much does it pay?", I think I'm going to buy a plough.
- [Cliff is dancing and Denise is watching him]
- Denise: Dad, promise me something. When my friends come over... don't do that.
- Denise: [the family has been trying unsuccessfully to get Rudy to eat her brussel sprouts the entire episode] Theo, could you help me move some furniture?
- Theo: What for?
- Denise: My friends and I wanna dance.
- Rudy Huxtable: Oh boy, can I watch?
- Denise: Only if you eat your brussel sprouts.
- [Rudy shoves her remaining three into her mouth]
- Cliff: Mrs. Davis cannot babysit tonight. Your sister has plans. So you're next in line.
- Theo: Me?
- Cliff: Yes, congratulations.
- Theo: Dad, I can't.
- Cliff: Why?
- Theo: It's a girl's job.
- Cliff: It's a girl's job?
- Theo: Hey, nobody ever asked Denise to shovel the sidewalk.
- Cliff: Good point.
- Theo: So I'm off the hook?
- Cliff: No, but the next snowstorm, Denise is shoveling.
- Clair Huxtable: You really think you're smooth, don't you?
- Cliff: Yeah, I was born way before whipped cream. They invented the spotlight... for me.
- Clair Huxtable: Cliff, I don't mean to hurt your feelings, but honey, you cannot dance.
- Cliff: I'm almost dressed. All I need is a shirt and a tie. You're the one who has to go through urban renewal.
