When Simon Carter goes over to stop George Marsh playing the same record "yet again", Marsh picks his gramophone up quickly and moves it briskly onto his bed. It carries on playing, whereas any violent movement of a gramophone would jog the needle out of the groove, causing a disruption to the sound and maybe a loud squawk as the needle skates over the grooves.
