- The agency is hired by San Fransisco-based Barbara Stone on behalf of herself and her sister, Jane Stone. They were swindled out of $100,000 by a John Thornwood in a fake South American oil scheme, the con which included John wooing a now heartbroken Jane. Because of the actual international components of the scheme, the Stones hiring lawyers to sue John would cost more than the $100,000. As such, Barbara believes using the services of the agency would be much more expeditious not only in recovering their money but in watching John suffer in the end. The reason they have come to Los Angeles is that John was last purported to be here, seemingly working on his next con, which they discover is indeed true, his next Plain Jane mark who he hopes will fall madly and quickly in love with him due to his masculine charms being art gallery owner, Monica Regis, he masquerading as an art history professor in a rare art find scheme. Kris is to go undercover as Thornwood's new neighbor, she who will make it quite obvious to him in an indirect way that she is a female version of him, Kelly will befriend Monica Regis, and Julie will follow up on what little information Charlie was able to find out about Monica. Monica does indeed fall head over heels in love with Thornwood, she who has not had many male suitors in her life. As such, a new priority becomes making sure that sensitive Monica does not get hurt in the process. With what Julie is able to find out about Monica's background, Kris believes there is another way to achieve their first goal of getting the Stones' money back to them, making John pay for at least these two crimes, and yet making Monica deliriously happy in the end.—Huggo
