Speedos and Bikinis!
deadlyduck-2343915 November 2022
Women of the 70's in bikinis are amazing looking. Ponch also wears a speedo which was cool for dudes back in the day, not sure why that stopped. I love the whole 70's vibe with the surfers and their ambulance car. The episode shows racial tension not unlike today, but has a good resolution. Ponch and Jon somehow find dates by pulling over two women who thought it would be a good idea to tow their catamarans with a little MG and lost their brakes. This episode didn't pack a punch like most of the Chips episodes with nail biting explosions and such, but you do see Ponch packing his speedo, so there's that. Haha.

Can This Feud Jive...The Beach Is For EVERYONE!!
elvimark019 January 2016
In this episode, it's beach duty for Jon and Ponch, but as with every episode set on the beach, it's not all surf, sun and babes...this time around, it's a turf war between surf dudes (three goofy blond guys straight out of Central Casting) and Latino kids from the Valley. The surfers seem to be the aggressors here, acting like they own the beach and the poor Valley kids have no place there. The Latino kids, replete with the requisite painted van (which every Chicano character in movies and TV seemed to drive back then), accidentally damage the headlight of the surfer's refurbished ambulance, leading to the first of several car chases. Ponch catches up to the surfers, and that brings out his lecturing side, telling these bozos that the Valley kids have just as much right to the beach as anyone and also exploding when they call Ponch the Valley kids 'Bro'.

Does that get through to them? No...next time it's the surfer dudes doing the damage when they spray-paint the Latino kids' van, and it's another chase. While all this is going on, someone's stealing car stereos, including those of both groups of kids as well as Jon, and each side is accusing the other of the thefts. We then see another chase, this time the surfers are chasing the Valley guys on foot after seeing them grab their surfboards. They bump into a number of people, including a little girl flying a kite...she loses the kite, the kite lands on the window of a moving car, causing a five-car accident. Finally, the two groups become involved in a bumping incident on the highway, which results in both groups' cars overturning and some of the guys injured. Ponch believes that a couple of days in jail will cool them off...when the officers return to the beach, the surfers and Valley dudes are hanging out together. The jail time did help...not to mention Jon and Ponch finding the real stereo thieves.

And of course, Jon and Ponch do find time to go catamaraning with a couple of babes that Ponch saved when their car was out of control!

Valley Go Home! is one of the better CHiPs episodes in my estimation...sun, babes, action...what more could you want? My score...9 out of 10.

Amusing Episode: Disco Music, Dumb Kids, Dumber Thieves!
cairn617 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
One of the more amusing and delightfully cheesy episodes of "CHiPs". While the usual "bad guys vs cops" and "Ponch and Jon get the girls" story lines are played, the main story teaches a moral life lesson, how anger and petty arguments can lead you to trouble.

The story opens with the cops assigned to the beach, an area of territorial dispute between "Surfer Kids" and "Valley Kids". A group of surfer teens in a souped up old ambulance butt heads with a couple of valley boys in a souped up van and their battles spill out onto the canyon roads in the form of aggressive vehicle battles. Ponch and Jon try to stop the nonsense, first with tickets, then with threats, and finally with warnings of jail and possible self injury or worse. Their efforts fail, and indeed the two groups of kids find themselves crawling out of their mangled vehicles after a wild crash down a hillside and licking their wounds as the cops gave them the "I told you so" lecture before hauling them off to the hospital and then the pokey. Lesson learned the hard way.

The bad guy vs. the cops part is a routine police story ending with the robbers who had been stealing car radios attempting to flee in an RV...not successful in doing so.

The final story segment finds the guys meeting a couple of cute girls who teach them how to sail...with Ponch having a hard time climbing aboard the small boat...much to the laugh of everybody involved.

All the typical amusing parts of "CHiPs" are played out in this story...car crashes, girls, bad guys, and Disco music pumping in the background. And within all that silly cheesiness, a moral lesson of how anger can lead to danger is played out.
