- [watching the paramedics working to revive the wounded cop killer Hopkins]
- Officer Gene Kantorski: [quietly to himself] Die, you scumbag.
- Lt. Stan Jonas, IAB: Frank, the M.E. is making the cause of death on Hopkins as a punctured lung.
- Patrol Sgt. Francis X. Donovan: Why wouldn't he have a punctured lung? He was shot and forcibly subdued doing murders.
- Lt. Stan Jonas, IAB: M.E. is making the punctured lung from compression fractures of the ribs.
- Patrol Sgt. Francis X. Donovan: I can't belive this, those sons-of-bitches!
- Lt. Stan Jonas, IAB: And those he got inside the house.
- Patrol Sgt. Francis X. Donovan: Everything my guys did today... the losses they took, the heroism, the hard work, and for all that... they are now going to have to defend themselves against murder charges?
- Lt. Stan Jonas, IAB: You're getting way ahead of yourself, Frank.
- Patrol Sgt. Francis X. Donovan: No, I'm not.
- Lt. Stan Jonas, IAB: I know. You didn't think it was going to be like this when we talked you at the academy.
- Patrol Sgt. Francis X. Donovan: [scoffs] Yeah, "see working for Internal Affairs as a cause of your duty. Getting drug dealers and thieves off the job. Can definitely help your dad situation".
- Lt. Stan Jonas, IAB: This is what field associates ask for. You did contract for this whether you knew or not.
- Patrol Sgt. Francis X. Donovan: The only answers I ever gave you was that whether my people are clean or not. I never gave anybody up.
- Lt. Stan Jonas, IAB: We don't know at Internal Affairs if any of your people did anything wrong today.
- Patrol Sgt. Francis X. Donovan: At this point, you can only hope.
- Lt. Stan Jonas, IAB: Frank, if you want to strut around behind that desk and show off to everyone how much you dislike us, that's fine. But you are going to find out what happened to that prisoner in that roll call room, and you're going to tell us about it. You're gonna do that, Frank... or you're gonna get hurt.
- Patrol Sgt. Francis X. Donovan: So you tell me when I first started out at the academy, that my duty to you was to be a full-on rat.
- Lt. Stan Jonas, IAB: You signed on to do what we ask you to do. Now, go home and get a good night's sleep.
- Reverend Basil Matheson: Sergeant Santoro, were you in that roll call room when Dashawn Hopkins expired?
- Sgt. Richard Santoro: In what capacity are you asking that question, Reverend?
- Reverend Basil Matheson: In my capacity as an African American community leader.
- Sgt. Richard Santoro: Well, until I've been notified to the contrary Reverend, the investigation into this morning's events is not to be conducted by community leaders.
- Mavis Hopkins: [livid] Well, maybe that's the problem since you honkeys killed my brother!
- Reverend Basil Matheson: Look, I'll tell you something, Sergeant. Regardless of who was conducting the investigation, if the African American community is not afforded access then we ALL will have a problem.
- Sgt. Richard Santoro: Now you told me.
- Reverend Basil Matheson: I'll tell you something else. If Dashawn Hopkins had to be killed in order to stop him from killing more white people, then we are prepared to accept that. On the other hand, if Dashawn Hopkins was killed subsequently and unnecessarily... and while in police custody, then we intend to see his killer or killers punished.
- Sgt. Richard Santoro: Now you told me that.
- Reverend Basil Matheson: I don't like your attitude, Sergeant.
- Sgt. Richard Santoro: Dashawn Hopkins murdered cops today, Reverend. I do not like you coming in here suggesting that cops murdered him!
- Reverend Basil Matheson: You're making a bad start of this.
- Sgt. Richard Santoro: The bad start was at seven o'clock this morning.
- Mavis Hopkins: Not nearly enough time to when you white pigs butchered him!
- Reverend Basil Matheson: We'll find out if that happened, Miss Hopkins. We have time and patience... and we will be back.
