Tom tells Adam what really happened to Mr. Miller but it doesn't make sense. He says he did shoot her father and later got the dead guy's gun (Sue?) and shot it to show Miller drew on him. Where was that bullet? So there would be two shots but Jerry heard one.
Earlier Adam said they never found the bullet in Mr. Miller but couldn't it be still in his body since he was dead? They look around the room and Adam finds a bullet in the pillow. It matches Tom's fancy gun. What about the bullet Tom shot from Miller's gun. All convoluted logic at the crime scene.

In the opening scene where Adam falls into the river and is swimming, there is a car moving along a road that runs parallel to the river.
At this time in this series the time is set around 1859-61. In this episode Sue Miller says "I grabbed my father's gun, it went off by itself". For that to happen would require a double action handgun; the earliest double actions didn't come about until the late 1870's and weren't wide spread until the 1890's. She would have to pull the hammer back and then pull the trigger.
