Edmund tries to get out of his arranged marriage to the Infanta by marrying Tally Applebottom, and on it turning out that Tally is already married he tells the priest that the Church has to be 'adaptable', but if that was possible then it would defeat the object of his plan anyway.
The Infanta appears to not know about the rule that one of them has to be a virgin in order for the marriage to be valid, as she asks what Edmund is like in bed and if she knew about the rule she would therefore deduce that since she isn't a virgin, he must be.
