- Quotes
Lt. Cmdr. Susan Ivanova: [last words] From the stars we came and to the stars we return, from now until the end of time. We therefore commit this body to the deep.
Dr. Stephen Franklin: It's all so brief, isn't it? Typical human lifespan is almost a hundred years, but it's barely a second compared to what's out there. It wouldn't be so bad if life didn't take so long to figure out. Seems you just start to get it right and then - it's over.
Lt. Cmdr. Susan Ivanova: Doesn't matter. If we lived 200 years we'd still be human, we'd still make the same mistakes.
Dr. Stephen Franklin: You're a pessimist.
Lt. Cmdr. Susan Ivanova: I'm Russian, doctor. We understand these things.
- ConnectionsFeatured in Babylon 5: War Without End: Part Two (1996)
While this episode can be considered an 'alien of the week' story it also serves to give solid introductions to two characters; firstly Doctor Franklin who appears for the first time and secondly Delenn who may have appeared before but here we get to know her much better; there are also some intriguing questions raised about her that I suspect might not be answered too quickly. Richard Biggs and Mira Furlan impress in these roles. The Soul Eater is an interesting antagonist; it is unclear if such beings are inherently bad. Certainly the other alien races aren't keen on them but it is hard to say they are fundamentally wicked... the same can't be said of this individual as we learn his own people want to see him stopped. There are some good tense moments; as this is only the second episode there is a greater sense of danger as long term characters haven't become established. Overall this was a fine second episode.
