On June 21, 1964, Jim Bunning pitched a perfect game for the Philadelphia Phillies, which plays a background role in this episode. However, the murder of the civil right workers James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner in Neshoba County, Mississippi, which took place later that night, was mentioned in the earlier episode Fear Itself (2003).
In one scene, a shot of a seaside carnival shows a mural of a whale in the background. This mural is painted by marine-life artist Wyland as part of his Whaling Wall series. It is Whaling Wall #79 "Santa Monica's Marine Life" and was not painted until 1998 at the Santa Monica Pier. In one shot you can clearly see the artist's signature (behind a swing ride) and the dedication date. Additionally, the mural is of California Gray Whales, which are not indigenous to the Atlantic.
