Apparent homages to famous comedy roles that John Cleese had performed in previous movies. In his duel with Dick, he cleverly reprises his role as The Black Knight from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)." And in the restaurant, after catching a buzzing fly and then dropping it onto Dick's meal, he reprises his phrasing and timing of the waiter's "Bon appetit" remark to Mr. Creosote in "The Meaning of Life (1983)."
