- [Navi has Behrooz hostage in an enclosed area but is very confident]
- Tony Almeida: Let's try to open up a negotiation.
- Dina Araz: My husband won't negotiate.
- Tony Almeida: Why is that?
- Dina Araz: He doesn't need to. He has to assume I have agreed to help you in return for my son's safety.
- Tony Almeida: Well, he can't stay down there with him forever.
- Dina Araz: He won't. In two hours, all the reactors will have gone critical. After that, it won't matter what I tell you, and he can kill my son. I am only helping you to save his life. I believe in our cause, and if you can't save my son, I am happy to see the reactors melt down.
- Jack Bauer: [on phone with Discroll] Did you get that?
- Curtis Manning: I warned you about her
- Erin Driscoll: What're you talking about?
- Curtis Manning: Marianne Taylor, I told you she was trouble and a mistake to let her work here
- Erin Driscoll: No, you told me you were "uncomfortable" working with her: you didn't tell me you were having a relationship with a corporate spy
- Curtis Manning: How could I have possibly known that? Don't play that card with me
- Erin Driscoll: Fine, then don't walk in here with an "I told you so", attitude because we both have to deal with this
- Curtis Manning: You mean Division?
- Erin Driscoll: That's right, they're going to want a complete timeline: everything from how Marianne got through the front door down to the high security files that was she able to access in a very short period of time
- Curtis Manning: Can we have a conversation "off book"?
- Erin Driscoll: Go ahead
- Curtis Manning: There's no point in either of us compromising authority in the eyes of Division, agree or disagree?
- Erin Driscoll: Agree
- Curtis Manning: Marianne did an excellent job establishing her credentials. All we need to do is leave out some of the details on how she managed to leverage her way in here
- Erin Driscoll: I don't like anyone holding something over me
- Curtis Manning: Neither do I
- Erin Driscoll: How long would it take you to adjust the files?
- Curtis Manning: Two minutes
- Erin Driscoll: I'll call Division in five
- President John Keeler: [Over the phone] explain to me how this "mole" Marianne Taylor was able to infiltrate CTU?
- Erin Driscoll: We're still investigating Mr. President
- President John Keeler: Who did she work for?
- Erin Driscoll: We don't know
- President John Keeler: Find out
- Erin Driscoll: We will as soon as she regains consciousness: she's being treated here in the clinic
- President John Keeler: Treated for what?
- Erin Driscoll: An attempt on her life
- President John Keeler: Who tried to kill her?
- Erin Driscoll: We don't know that either but whoever it was, their more than likely connected to the theft of the Override
- President John Keeler: We need to find that Override now: what's the latest from the NRC?
- Erin Driscoll: They just reported the San Gabriel reactors are about to go critical
- President John Keeler: What's the time frame?
- Erin Driscoll: Meltdown within the hour. We started evacuating the San Gabriel "zone", the population is less than a hundred thousand, and hopefully most of them are already on the move
- President John Keeler: Right, expedite the process as much as you can
- Erin Driscoll: [Before hanging up] yes Sir
- James Heller: Are you ok?
- Audrey Raines: Yeah, how are you holding up?
- James Heller: Considering the situation we're in, I'm doing fine: the truth of the matter is we do not have the manpower to handle this mess
- Audrey Raines: Tell me what I can do
- James Heller: I've prioritized evacuation protocols but I need someone to keep the State Police and the National Guard from bumping into each other
- Audrey Raines: [while looking at a map on a monitor] alright I'll stop the Guard at the seventy five mile marker and let the police take over from there. We'll maximize room for civilian traffic
- James Heller: I wish we had some other way of getting those people out of there
- Audrey Raines: There's nowhere else to reroute them
- James Heller: Jack has got to find the Override before the rest of these reactors go critical
- Edgar Stiles: [Over the phone] have you seen the news?
- Lucy Stiles: Yes I'm watching it now
- Edgar Stiles: Then why aren't you evacuated by now? What are you still doing home?
- Lucy Stiles: You know I don't have a car
- Edgar Stiles: Where's Margret?
- Lucy Stiles: I tried to get a hold of her but the lines are all busy, I'm surprised you got through
- Edgar Stiles: What about one of your neighbors? Can't you get a ride from one of them?
- Lucy Stiles: No, by the time I got outside they were gone
- Edgar Stiles: Listen to me, I'm going to make some calls. I'm going to try to get someone there to help you ok? I want you to sit by the phone and wait for my call, can you do that?
- Lucy Stiles: Yes, I really don't have a choice
- Edgar Stiles: I'll call you back
- Lucy Stiles: Ok honey, bye
- Audrey Raines: [Talking privately] I'm sorry, what is it?
- Edgar Stiles: It's my mother
- Audrey Raines: Your mother?
- Edgar Stiles: She lives near San Gabriel Island: she's in a wheelchair, she doesn't drive and she missed the call to evacuate, now I don't know what to do
- Audrey Raines: Maybe someone from the National Guard can get her?
- Edgar Stiles: I already spoke to the area commander, he said he couldn't spare anyone
- Audrey Raines: I'm sorry, I'm not sure what I can do
- Edgar Stiles: [Hands her a piece of paper] here's his number. I thought maybe you called him yourself, I hate asking for special treatment: that's not something I normally do but she's my mother
- Audrey Raines: I can't make any promises
- Edgar Stiles: Just promise me you'll try ok?
- Audrey Raines: Alright
- Lucy Stiles: [Over the phone] hello honey
- Edgar Stiles: I've been trying, I can't get anyone out there to help you. I've done everything I could, I did
- Lucy Stiles: I'm sure you did, it's ok
- Edgar Stiles: It's not ok. The fallout is coming towards you: its fifteen miles away
- Lucy Stiles: I know, I'm watching it on the news and I know what to do
- Edgar Stiles: There's nothing you can do, you can't stuff towels under the door
- Lucy Stiles: That's not what I'm talking about doing
- Edgar Stiles: What'd you mean?
- Lucy Stiles: They've been talking about radiation poisoning on the news. That's not something I want to go through especially if there's only one way it can end. Honey, I want to end things on my terms, as opposed to all that pain and suffering
- Edgar Stiles: Mom...
- Lucy Stiles: It's the right thing to do, it's the only thing, and you know that
- Edgar Stiles: No, I don't
- Lucy Stiles: You have been a wonderful son, you've been a gift to me and your father, it's ok, I'm going to a better place, I'll see you there but not for a long time. You've got a lot ahead of you: great things
- Edgar Stiles: I'm going to get someone to you, I'll keep trying
- Lucy Stiles: You've got a very important job to do there, a lot of people are counting on you so I'm going to hang up now and I want you to know how very much I love you
- Jack Bauer: All this planning for one day: you do realize if all the reactors meltdown, hundreds of thousands of people will die
- Dina Araz: Every war has casualties
- Jack Bauer: These people don't know about your "war." These people are innocent
- Dina Araz: No one is innocent
- Jack Bauer: You really believe that?
- Dina Araz: As strongly as you believe in what you believe. As I won't waste your time or mine trying to explain something you can never understand
- Jack Bauer: Maybe I understand more than you think
- Dina Araz: I doubt it
- Jack Bauer: I know something happened today that challenged your commitment to your "war." You weren't willing to let your son become a casualty. That's why you were shot: protecting him from his father. I understand that, I know what it's like to watch your child be threatened. If you help us do anything about it, right now Behrooz is out there alone, you and I know his not going to last very long. His father will find him and kill him. There is another option: if you were to help us find the Override device, we will protect your son
- Dina Araz: So he can spend the rest of his life in prison?
- Jack Bauer: No, so he can walk away from all of this, immune from prosecution
- Dina Araz: How?
- Jack Bauer: Mrs. Araz your son is a minor, his seventeen years old. I can get him a legal and binding pardon signed by the President of the United States
- Dina Araz: You don't have the authority to do this
- Jack Bauer: I can reach the President, if you provide us information that "allows" us to find the Override device in time, I am confident the President will sign that pardon and this offer expires the second another reactor melts down do you understand me? You don't have a lot of time to think about this
- Dina Araz: Show me this document and I'll help you find what you want
- President John Keeler: [Over the phone] can we rule out this boy's involvement with the terrorist action?
- Erin Driscoll: No Sir, it's likely he knew his parent's plans: he probably helped them
- President John Keeler: You're asking me to grant clemency to a terrorist?
- Erin Driscoll: Mr. President, I don't think we have a choice in all my professional experience, I believe we have to give into this woman's demands
- President John Keeler: Try to negotiating with her
- Erin Driscoll: We don't have time, in approximately five hours, five nuclear reactors are going to go critical unless we find the Override device. She is our only link
- President John Keeler: I'm uncomfortable with this but I trust your judgment. I'll release the letter
- Erin Driscoll: [Before hanging up] thank you Mr. President
- Edgar Stiles: Did you talk to them?
- Audrey Raines: Yes, I'm sorry, they can't get your mother
- Edgar Stiles: Why not? Their five miles off the highway, it wouldn't take much time
- Audrey Raines: They know where she is
- Edgar Stiles: Then what's the problem?
- Audrey Raines: Thousands of people are stuck in the interstate and traffic, it's taken the combined effort of the police and the National Guard to get them moving
- Edgar Stiles: So who cares about one old woman?
- Audrey Raines: They've got to throw their resources into saving the maximum number of lives
- Edgar Stiles: [Before walking away] if my mother were rich or a politician, they'd find a way to save her
