- Tony Almeida: [Over the phone] what's the status?
- Michelle Dessler: Alvers planted vial containing the Cordilla virus in the ventilation system: it's on a timing device, it went off as Gael was trying to disarm it
- Tony Almeida: He was in direct contact?
- Michelle Dessler: Yeah. His shutting the system now but we have to assume it's permeated the entire building
- Tony Almeida: Within fourteen hours anybody exposed to the virus will become symptomatic. They'll affect whoever they come in contact with
- Michelle Dessler: Yeah I know. No one can be allowed to leave the building, we have to impose a total quarantine
- Tony Almeida: Scramble a code six perimeter
- Michelle Dessler: We have to be careful about this. Once these people realize what's going on, they'll create a widespread panic
- Tony Almeida: Our people will hold a hundred yard radius and stay out of sight and LAPD and Health Services will move in adjacent to the hotel
- Michelle Dessler: Good. The vial Alvers planted, he said there are eleven more
- Tony Almeida: Alvers told you this?
- Michelle Dessler: I just left him
- Tony Almeida: You just left him? He could've been exposed to the virus, how'd get outside the hotel?
- Michelle Dessler: He didn't leave the hotel. His still in the basement
- Tony Almeida: Are you inside?
- Michelle Dessler: Yeah
- Tony Almeida: What the hell are you doing in there?
- Michelle Dessler: I wasn't trying to be a hero. It's the only decision I could make
- Tony Almeida: How far are you from the ventilation room?
- Michelle Dessler: I'm not sure
- Tony Almeida: Health Services are bringing protective gear, I want you to put it on as soon as they get there now if we can get you outside the hotel, we can isolate you...
- Michelle Dessler: [Interrupts him] I can't leave
- Tony Almeida: Are you listening to me? I'm ordering you to get out
- Michelle Dessler: Well, that's an order I can't obey. As it is there's only seven other agents including Gael, it's full of people that need to be contained and controlled, communications, testing procedures, it all has to be coordinated and I am the ranking officer
- Jack Bauer: You and I both know I don't have a lot of time here. I need to know who you're working for: who's behind this. Just give me a name?
- Michael Amador: Do what you want to me. I'm not telling you anything
- Jack Bauer: I found the incubator with the virus in it in the room next door. If you don't tell me what I need to know, I'll put you in there and open it up
- Michael Amador: And I'll die but I won't talk
- Jack Bauer: [Answering his phone] Bauer
- Ryan Chappelle: This is Chappelle, the virus has been released into the ventilation of the Chandler Plaza Hotel. Alvers says there's eleven more other vials but can't or won't tell us where they are. Amador's our only other link
- Jack Bauer: He says whoever is behind this knows me but his too afraid to give me a name
- Ryan Chappelle: Is it someone you worked with or against?
- Jack Bauer: This is what we're trying to figure out
- Ryan Chappelle: Bring Amador back to CTU
- Jack Bauer: We don't have time for that. We don't know when the eleven other vials are going to be released
- Ryan Chappelle: We'll put him in a room with Richards
- Jack Bauer: You put Nina in a room with Richards. You got no information and three dead agents. You're going to have to let me handle this. You're going to have to trust me
- Ryan Chappelle: [Before hanging up] alright
- Tony Almeida: [Over the phone] are you on your way to the hotel?
- Dr. Nicole Duncan: Yeah, we're loading up now, we'll be there as fast as we can. What's the status of your people?
- Tony Almeida: Their setting up a covert perimeter
- Dr. Nicole Duncan: Ok, we're bringing a mobile lab to test the people inside the hotel but that could accomplished if the situation is stable
- Tony Almeida: Yeah Michelle's got that covered
- Dr. Nicole Duncan: She's inside the hotel? Unprotected?
- Tony Almeida: Yeah, look I'll get back to you
- Tony Almeida: [Before hanging up with Duncan, to Chappelle after he walks into his office] here's the protocol: total containment inside the hotel, no one is allowed to leave or communicate with the outside. Health Services will establish an adjacent perimeter, LAPD will move in as soon as the area is deemed safe
- Ryan Chappelle: Alright, have they been given a degree of "forced parameters" in case someone tries to leave the hotel?
- Tony Almeida: No, that's your call
- Ryan Chappelle: One person gets out it can start a ripple effect and disease transmission throughout the city. The orders are shoot to kill if anyone attempts to leave: no exceptions
- Gael Ortega: [Walking up to her with Philips] all the exits have been secured
- Michelle Dessler: Good, we need to shut down the elevators and the phone system
- Craig Phillips: It's that serious?
- Michelle Dessler: Essentially: yes. For now no one can leave the building, our first priority is to prevent a panic
- Craig Phillips: Shutting down hotel operations will create one. People still have their cell phones
- Michelle Dessler: We're directing a jamming signal into the hotel
- Craig Phillips: How do you stay in contact with CTU if the cell phones are jammed?
- Michelle Dessler: Our phones operate on a different frequency, it won't be affected
- Craig Phillips: Is anyone going to survive this?
- Michelle Dessler: That's what we're here to insure
- Gael Ortega: [to Philips] look, we're going to rely on your leadership, you and your employees will be our first line of defense ok?
- Michelle Dessler: We also need you shut down the fire alarm
- Craig Phillips: It's hard wired into the main grid, it has to be shut down one node at a time
- Craig Phillips: [after Michelle remains silent, before he walks away] I'll take care of it
- Michelle Dessler: Thank you
- Gael Ortega: We probably got an hour or so before people start waking up, where's Alvers?
- Michelle Dessler: His downstairs with Peterson, he gave up nothing except there are more vials: somewhere
- Michelle Dessler: [after sitting down next to him] I know you wouldn't have been exposed to the virus if it wasn't for me
- Gael Ortega: You didn't have us do anything we would've done on our own
- President David Palmer: How many people are in the hotel?
- Wayne Palmer: About a thousand
- President David Palmer: Alright, call the Governor, if this thing spreads and there's a city wide panic, he needs to be ready to mobilize the State Troopers and the National Guard
- Wayne Palmer: Yes Mr. President
- President David Palmer: But I want him to hold off the order until he hears from us
- Sherry Palmer: [after walking into his office as Wayne leaves] you look tired. I'm bringing you a problem but I'm also bringing you a solution
- President David Palmer: [sighs] let's hear the problem
- Sherry Palmer: Julia Milliken, she was interviewed by the police about Alan's death and she's claiming I had something to do with it
- President David Palmer: Did you?
- Sherry Palmer: Does that really matter?
- President David Palmer: Only you could say that
- Wayne Palmer: You know, you always "claim" to want the truth but your whole life you've been surrounded by people like me and Wayne who protected you from it
- President David Palmer: I never asked to be protected
- Sherry Palmer: Well, that may be true but the fact remains you have been. Tonight, I'm going to take you at your word. I'm actually going to tell you the truth
- President David Palmer: [Nods] thank you
- Sherry Palmer: I was with Julia Milliken when Alan had his heart attack, she was going to give him his medicine and I stopped her. We both watched him die
- President David Palmer: [Surprised] that's murder
- Sherry Palmer: And Julia couldn't keep her mouth shut, she told the police everything. They just called me a little while ago and I told them I was with you at the time of Alan's death so I expect they'll be contacting you to verify my story
- President David Palmer: And you expect me to do that?
- Sherry Palmer: It would be a serious mistake not to because if you don't I will tell them I was "acting" on your behalf
- President David Palmer: No one's going to believe I asked you to kill Alan Milliken
- Sherry Palmer: No, but maybe they'll believe you were having a problem with him that you told me to take "all necessary measures" to solve it. Now that's a nice sound byte for the media don't you think? Take "all necessary measures"?
- President David Palmer: [Sternly] I never used those words
- Sherry Palmer: [Before leaving] well, think it over
- Jack Bauer: [Over the phone, while in pursuit of Amador with Chase] ok I've got you on speaker: we're on Hoover headed south running parallel to Amador's position on Vermont
- Tony Almeida: Yeah, we've got you, where'd you put the transponder?
- Jack Bauer: In the bandage on his hand
- Tony Almeida: You know, this could all backfire
- Jack Bauer: We didn't have a choice. We had to let him believe he escaped
- Tony Almeida: I'm just saying while you're tied up following him, he maybe just heading out of town
- Jack Bauer: No, whoever Amador is working for has got connections all around the world, his going to need his help to get out of here
- Tony Almeida: Want some back up?
- Jack Bauer: No, there are not many cars on the road. If we get any closer, he'll "make" us. Did Michelle compile the list of the contacts I've had over the last five years?
- Tony Almeida: [Picking up the phone to talk privately] no, I had to put Chloe on it. Michelle's inside the Chandler Plaza Hotel
- Jack Bauer: [while looking at Chase] I'm sorry. We think the virus's been altered
- Tony Almeida: Altered how?
- Jack Bauer: Combined with another chemical. It's on its way to NHS to get tested now
- Tony Almeida: [Referring to Michelle surviving the virus] so, you're saying she might have a chance?
- Jack Bauer: Maybe, I hope so, we'll get back to you as soon as we've got anything ok?
- Tony Almeida: [Over the phone] how long before you can move in?
- Dr. Nicole Duncan: About half an hour
- Tony Almeida: We found out the virus was altered, combined with another compound
- Dr. Nicole Duncan: Until the compound is analyzed we have no idea what we're dealing with
- Tony Almeida: So, what's the mortality rate among those exposed to the virus?
- Dr. Nicole Duncan: In its ALT form, approximately ninety percent
- Tony Almeida: If somebody was exposed to it for a short time, would leaving the hotel make a difference? I mean I knowing not making sense here...
- Dr. Nicole Duncan: [Interrupts him] once your exposed, your exposed, the length of exposure has no bearing on survivability
- Tony Almeida: You said ten percent would survive, now if the virus "was" altered, is there a chance the percentage would go up?
- Dr. Nicole Duncan: [Referring to Michelle] it's possible: we'll do everything we can for her
- Tony Almeida: [Before hanging up] yeah, thanks
- President David Palmer: What's the latest on the hotel?
- Wayne Palmer: It's still unknown how much of the virus was released or how many people were exposed: now I think you want to make a preemptive announcement on how to deal with the outbreak
- President David Palmer: No, I'm not making an announcement until the facts are known
- Wayne Palmer: I just heard from LAPD, they consider Sherry to be a flight risk. They have a warrant for her arrest, if you don't back her alibi that she was with you when Milliken died
- President David Palmer: You mean lie?
- Wayne Palmer: There is nothing to think about here
- President David Palmer: Perjury and obstruction of justice are nothing to think about?
- Wayne Palmer: You have the most powerful legal apparatus in the world at your disposal. Now you let call the AG's office and this so called "problem" disappears
- President David Palmer: No, it just widens the conspiracy and it'll never hold
- Wayne Palmer: Are you going to let everything you've accomplished and I do mean everything because of what? Because of Sherry's "indiscretion"?
- President David Palmer: Listen to yourself, calling murder an "indiscretion"?
- Wayne Palmer: Oh, for God's sake. Grow up!
- President David Palmer: Who do you think you're talking to?
- Wayne Palmer: To an ex-President unless you do the only thing that makes sense here. Now Sherry said if she goes down she'll take you down with her
- President David Palmer: Then do your job and make sure that doesn't happen
- Wayne Palmer: Then stop tying my hands
- President David Palmer: I want to see the Chief of Police
- Wayne Palmer: Damn it, we can stonewall, we can survive this
- President David Palmer: Get him out of bed and bring him directly to me
- Michelle Dessler: [Over the phone] the situation's even worse than we thought
- Tony Almeida: What're you talking about?
- Michelle Dessler: Gael started hemorrhaging from the nose and mouth: less than an hour after exposure
- Tony Almeida: So the incubation period is no longer fourteen hours
- Michelle Dessler: According to Alvers, the compounded he added to the virus acts as an accelerant
- Tony Almeida: Is Gael the only one showing symptoms?
- Michelle Dessler: As far as I know
- Tony Almeida: Where is he?
- Michelle Dessler: I isolated him in a room in the basement
- Tony Almeida: Were you exposed to any of his blood?
- Michelle Dessler: No, but we tested the air throughout the hotel. The virus is everywhere and I've been breathing it
- Tony Almeida: [sighs] reinforcements are on the way. Everyone knows we need a hard perimeter as soon as possible
- Michelle Dessler: I'll get back to you
- Tony Almeida: Michelle...
- Michelle Dessler: [Interrupts him] I can't do this now, we have to focus on making sure no one gets out of here
- Tony Almeida: [Before hanging up] yeah, ok
- Michelle Dessler: [Over the radio] how you feeling?
- Gael Ortega: I'm ok, I'm alright: the bleeding stops and starts. I just feel very weak
- Michelle Dessler: As soon as NHS gets here, they're going to send a doctor to see you
- Gael Ortega: To track the progress of the virus?
- Michelle Dessler: To make you more comfortable
- Gael Ortega: You've got to get them here soon. You're going to have a hard time keeping people in the hotel once they wake up
- President David Palmer: [Meeting privately while Wayne stands nearby] please have a seat
- Police Chief Hendrix: Thank you Sir
- President David Palmer: I realize this is an irregular hour for a meeting
- Police Chief Hendrix: The circumstances are irregular Mr. President
- President David Palmer: Yes they are, I assume you've been briefed on the Milliken case?
- Police Chief Hendrix: I know Julia Milliken stated Mrs. Palmer contributed to the death of Alan Milliken by withholding his medication. Mrs. Palmer indicated to our detectives she was not at the Milliken residence earlier this evening, that she was here with you. Mr. President, my question is: was she?
- President David Palmer: Yes she was
- Police Chief Hendrix: Thank you Mr. President
- President David Palmer: [Shaking hands, before Wayne escorts him out of the room] thank you Chief Hendrix
- Police Chief Hendrix: [while talking outside the President's office] is there any reason you can think of that prompted Mrs. Milliken to accuse Mrs. Palmer?
- Wayne Palmer: People do inexplicable things in a moment of crisis Chief
- Police Chief Hendrix: Yeah
- Wayne Palmer: Good night
- Police Chief Hendrix: Good night
- President David Palmer: The Police Chief was just here and I told him you were here with me tonight
- Sherry Palmer: And no one will know anything different
- President David Palmer: I will: what you've done is unforgivable
- Sherry Palmer: You called me "precisely" because you needed someone to do your dirty work so don't turn around and just try to "wash" your hands of this...
- President David Palmer: [Interrupts her] don't you dare insinuate I knew you what you were about to do. You took a life
- Sherry Palmer: It's not that clear cut
- President David Palmer: Yes it is. Alan Milliken is dead because of you
- Sherry Palmer: You needed help with Milliken and I gave it to you. Neither one of us had any idea it would work out like this. So let's not forget it did work out in your favor. You should be thanking me
- President David Palmer: I despise you for what you've done and I despise my role in helping you get away with it. Now get out of my sight
