Reiko Aylesworth: Michelle Dessler

Quotes

  • Michelle Dessler : [while in the interrogation room after playing the Cyprus recording]  this tape was recovered from the hard drive in your apartment: it's a recording of a meeting you had with these three men in Cyprus. Their all high ranking officials from three Arab countries, one of them your own. The tape proves that you conspired with these men to detonate a nuclear bomb on US soil. Whatever you don't tell me you'll tell the interrogators at Guantánamo and in much less comfortable circumstances. So I'll ask you one more time

Syed Ali : [Interrupts her]  tell me what you want me to say and I will say it

Michelle Dessler : I want the truth

Syed Ali : What does the truth matter when you have this recording?

Michelle Dessler : Explain what that means

Syed Ali : It means I never spoke to these men

Michelle Dessler : Your denying the meeting took place?

Syed Ali : There was never a meeting. I was not in Cyprus in April

Michelle Dessler : Where were you?

    Syed Ali : Berlin

Michelle Dessler : They'll find out the truth in Guantánamo

Syed Ali : Why would I lie about this? When I told you the truth about the bomb?

Michelle Dessler : To protect your country

  • Tony Almeida : [after walking into the conference room]  Agent Gibson, I take it your team is finished with the analyses of the Cyprus recording?

    Agent Gibson : Yes sir

Tony Almeida : Could you walk us through it please?

Agent Gibson : We began with taking voice samples from Syed Ali and the three government officials on the recording. We deconstructed the sound waves and isolated unique qualities that are vocally equivalent to fingerprints. Our studies indicate the voices on the Cyprus audio are in fact Syed Ali and the three government Ministers in question

Tony Almeida : Now, this recording could've been created by putting different conversations together right?

Agent Gibson : Yes, but reconstruction always leaves "artifacts", mismatched acoustical signatures or altered cadences, we found no such "artifacts."

Tony Almeida : Is there any chance that this recording could've been doctored in a way that we couldn't detect?

Agent Gibson : Of course anything is theoretically possible but I can say with absolutely certainty that the finest experts using the very best equipment available did not find any evidence that this recording is anything but a genuine and accurate record of an actual conversation

Tony Almeida : A conversation with these four men that sat in the same room and conspired to detonate a nuclear bomb on US soil?

    Agent Gibson : Yes sir

Michelle Dessler : [after entering the room and sitting down]  I just finished talking with Ali. He "claims" his never spoken to any of the men in the recording. He says it's a complete fabrication and that he was in Berlin on April 5th, not Cyprus. He could be telling the truth

Tony Almeida : He still thinks we killed one of his sons. His trying to save the rest of his family by denying that his country is one of the three behind the nuke

Michelle Dessler : I agree he has a clear motive to lie but if there's any possibility that his telling the truth, I think we need to investigate

Carrie Turner : But he's not. I mean it's obvious

Michelle Dessler : It's not obvious to me

Carrie Turner : In a contest between the physical evidence and the word of an attempted mass murderer it's clear which side wins. And no offense but your experience as an interrogator is limited

Tony Almeida : [to Carrie]  alright that's enough

Michelle Dessler : [Raises her voice to Carrie]  I sat three feet away from the man and I believe that he is a broken man without the strength or resolve to lie

  • Tony Almeida : Chappelle wants to see your report before you send it to the Pentagon

Michelle Dessler : I'm ordering more data points. I'll need another fifteen minutes

Tony Almeida : [Noticing she seems agitated]  fine. You alright?

Michelle Dessler : Yeah, I'm just a little tired like everyone else

Tony Almeida : No, I mean about before. I know it got tense between you and Carrie

Michelle Dessler : I can handle Carrie

Tony Almeida : The truth is you don't have the training or the experience to read a guy like Ali. Now that's my fault, I shouldn't have put you in that position

Michelle Dessler : It doesn't mean we shouldn't press him harder

Tony Almeida : They'll take care of that at Guantánamo

Michelle Dessler : It may be too late

Tony Almeida : We're sending him now. I'm handing him over now to make sure it goes as planned

Michelle Dessler : [Before walking away]  ok

  • Michelle Dessler : I'm glad you're ok

    Jack Bauer : Thanks

Michelle Dessler : Look, I know Tony's running things and I don't want to speak out of turn but I don't know who else to talk to

    Jack Bauer : About what?

Michelle Dessler : I think the President is planning a major military action based on a recording that was found in Ali's apartment: it links high ranking officials from three governments to the nuke. The problem is Ali claims it's a fake

Jack Bauer : And you believe him?

Michelle Dessler : I don't know what to believe. I just think we ought to be sure before we retaliate against these countries

Jack Bauer : Well, that's Tony's call. I'm sorry. I'm trying to get a hold of my daughter

Michelle Dessler : I understand that but you're the one that broke Ali, you can read him better than anyone here or at Guantanamo. Please, before Ali's gone. His the only one that could prove this recording is real

Jack Bauer : Fine. I'll take to him. Do me favor, call this Sergeant Griggs tell him it's concerning my daughter

  • Jack Bauer : [Over the phone]  look, for the time being I want you to keep this information between us ok? I just talked to the President: he will not halt any military action unless we can provide proof

Michelle Dessler : Ali was our only proof

Jack Bauer : There's got to be another way to establish Ali's presence in that time. Other foreign intelligence agencies must have been tracking him as well

Michelle Dessler : An intelligence official from one of the target countries is here

Jack Bauer : What're you talking about? Here at CTU? Why?

Michelle Dessler : We struck an intelligence agreement earlier today. Look, he's the one who escorted the evidence from Ali's apartment

Jack Bauer : And you think he knows something?

Michelle Dessler : He might. Tony doesn't want him talking to anyone

Jack Bauer : Ok, fine. What's name?

Michelle Dessler : [Spelling the last name for him]  Yusuf Auda. A-U-D-A

Jack Bauer : Ok I'll pull up his CVC to run a background check on him. I'll get back to you

  • Tony Almeida : [Over the phone]  hey it's me

Michelle Dessler : Was Yusuf Auda helpful?

Tony Almeida : No, his got some trust issues: I'm right behind you. I think there's another way to prove the Cypress recording is fake. I'm going to need your help. You're going to have to trust me

Michelle Dessler : Ok whatever you need

Tony Almeida : Ok I'll back to you in a minute
