- George Mason: I thought I told you to handle this yourself
- Tony Almeida: Yeah well, the truth is if I didn't have to talk to you again, I'd be happy but the IT people need to access the data stream Paula was working on and it's on your system so we need your password
- George Mason: Password?
- Tony Almeida: Yeah
- George Mason: Hendrix.
- Tony Almeida: Is that with an "x"?
- George Mason: How else would you spell it?
- Tony Almeida: Yeah, right, thanks
- George Mason: How's Paula doing?
- Tony Almeida: Not so good. We're still trying to dig her out but she's non-responsive. Look, I've got to go
- George Mason: Ok
- Lynne Kresge: [Over the phone] Mr. Bauer, this is Lynne Kresge
- Jack Bauer: I asked to speak to the President
- Lynne Kresge: I'm sorry but his unavailable perhaps I can help
- Jack Bauer: What the hell are you people doing over there? I gave you a thirty minute warning before that building was suppose to be hit. You had plenty of time to evacuate the personnel
- Lynne Kresge: Mr. Bauer, there were "extenuating circumstances", I did try to tell the President. It's more complicated than I'm available to explain at this time
- Jack Bauer: I'm sorry but that's not good enough
- Lynne Kresge: That's all I can offer you
- Jack Bauer: Ms. Kresge right?
- Lynne Kresge: Yes
- Jack Bauer: You're responsible for killing a lot of innocent people: people I work with, friends of mine
- Lynne Kresge: I realize that. Right now you are the best chance we have of intercepting that nuclear weapon. I suggest you do your job.
- Jack Bauer: [Annoyed] I'll do my job! You people better start doing yours!
- Eric Rayburn: [Referring to preventing the bomb from exploding in CTU] sir we did everything we could
- President David Palmer: If only had Bauer called earlier, just a few minutes. We could've saved those people
- Eric Rayburn: Until we know more, I'd like to go over my evacuation plan for LA, it's on your desk
- President David Palmer: [Before leaving the conference room] I'll call you when I'm ready to meet on it
- Eric Rayburn: Thank you sir
- Lynne Kresge: [Talking privately] those people are dead because of you. I wanted to tell the President
- Eric Rayburn: But you didn't
- Lynne Kresge: Because of you. You made sure that I couldn't get through to him
- Eric Rayburn: As far as I know Bauer never called. You were the one who spoke to him
- Lynne Kresge: Are you blackmailing me?
- Eric Rayburn: I'm protecting the President. Whatever you know or whatever you think you know, I suggest you keep it to yourself
- Rescue Worker: [Before walking away] everything in your car I had cleared out and put it in the ambulance so whenever you're ready to go to the hospital
- George Mason: [Asking how he'll die from radiation poisoning] so, how's it going to happen?
- Rescue Worker: Excuse me?
- George Mason: You said I might be dead by tomorrow so I'm curious to know what to expect for the rest of the day
- Rescue Worker: There's a latent period where you will be mostly asymptomatic even in the most extreme cases, radiation poisoning can last a while
- George Mason: What's a while?
- Rescue Worker: Up to twelve hours, maybe longer. How do you feel now?
- George Mason: I'm going to puke
- Rescue Worker: I can give you something to control the nausea. At least until the symptoms are more acute
- George Mason: Yeah, like what?
- Rescue Worker: Your hair will start to fall out
- George Mason: [Jokingly] I'm used to that
- Rescue Worker: You'll start to manifest gastrointestinal hemorrhaging: skin legions, bleeding from the mouth, and nose
- George Mason: How am I going to die?
- Rescue Worker: Your mental functioning will begin to deteriorate and you'll lapse into a coma
- Paramedic: [Interrupting them] Mr. Mason
- Rescue Worker: Not now
- Paramedic: [Handing George a phone] it's the guy from your office Tony Almeida
- Rescue Worker: I said not now
- George Mason: [Over the phone] hey Tony what is it?
- Tony Almeida: They hit us George. They bombed CTU
- George Mason: [Surprised] what kind of damage?
- Tony Almeida: Damage reports are still coming in but so far we got nineteen of our people dead, twenty wounded, and seven missing
- Tony Almeida: Look, we're bleeding back here. All of our Intel on the nuke was destroyed. I mean it's on the NSA server but Paula wrote the decryption code and she's in really bad shape
- George Mason: Well, do whatever you have to retrieve it
- Tony Almeida: Yeah well I am. That's what I'm trying to do. That's why I called you. Chain of command remember?
- George Mason: Call NSA systems people and get them on it
- Tony Almeida: [Over the phone] when are you coming back here?
- George Mason: I'm not sure
- Tony Almeida: Well, the sooner, the better
- George Mason: Look, the truth is I may not be coming back
- Tony Almeida: Why not?
- George Mason: Because I'm not really in a position to help out right now
- Tony Almeida: [Gradually raising his voice] what're you talking about? A nuclear is set to go off sometime today in Los Angeles. We just lost half the people who were in a position to keep it from happening so don't tell me your still trying to cover your own ass!
- George Mason: Look, just deal with it ok?
- Tony Almeida: Yeah alright
- Michelle Dessler: [Over the phone] Tony Almeida's line
- Jack Bauer: Who's this?
- Michelle Dessler: Michelle Dessler
- Jack Bauer: Michelle, this is Jack Bauer: what's going over there?
- Michelle Dessler: There was an explosion about twenty minutes ago. Twenty-one casualties, number's growing
- Jack Bauer: Why wasn't CTU evacuated?
- Michelle Dessler: There wasn't any time
- Jack Bauer: What'd you mean there wasn't enough time? What about Mason? Is he alright?
- Michelle Dessler: He wasn't here
- Jack Bauer: How about Tony Almeida?
- Michelle Dessler: His ok. His helping the rescue workers
- Jack Bauer: Fine, can you handle the situation report?
- Michelle Dessler: [after grabbing a pad and pen] yeah, ok go ahead
- Jack Bauer: I've located Joseph Wald. I'm on my way there now
- Michelle Dessler: What about Wald's crew?
- Jack Bauer: Their all dead
- Michelle Dessler: Dead?
- Jack Bauer: [while driving and reading from a matchbook] just let Mason know I'm on my way to Joseph Wald's house and the address is 221 Canyon View Road in Simi Valley
- Michelle Dessler: Ok I'll send back up
- Jack Bauer: Ok, oh let Mason know I talked to Kim she is leaving the city
- Michelle Dessler: Yeah she called here too. She spoke to Tony
- Jack Bauer: She did? What'd she say?
- Michelle Dessler: I'm not sure but I'll look into it
- Jack Bauer: Ok get back to me thanks
- Michelle Dessler: I just got off the phone with Jack Bauer
- Tony Almeida: Where is he?
- Michelle Dessler: His on his way to see Wald, he wanted Mason to know
- Tony Almeida: Yeah well, Mason's checked out. Look, get the information directly to NSA alright?
- Michelle Dessler: Oh and he asked about his daughter Kim
- Tony Almeida: Oh no
- Michelle Dessler: What?
- Tony Almeida: She was on her way here. Look can you check the security logs and see if she was in the building?
- Kim Bauer: Is Megan alright?
- Doctor: She will be: her seizure will caused by pressure on the brain compounded by a skull fracture
- Kim Bauer: We got out in time, she wasn't inside during the explosion
- Doctor: Yes I know. From what I've seen her head injury most likely occurred before the blast. Megan's x-rays show prior injuries, fractured wrists and fingers that have never been treated
- Kim Bauer: What're you saying?
- Doctor: Her injuries suggest a possible pattern of physical abuse
- Kim Bauer: [after the doctor remains silent] you don't think I did this? You don't think I'd hurt her?
- Doctor: I'm going to let the police sort that out
- Kate Warner: I'm sorry to interrupt you but it's important
- Bob Warner: Sure. Sorry honey, just a sec. this wedding is going to break me. So, what's the big emergency?
- Kate Warner: Last month I was going over the PNL's for the third quarter, I found some inconsistencies
- Bob Warner: If this is about business, we'll deal with it on Monday ok?
- Kate Warner: Dad, it's about Reza
- Bob Warner: What about Reza?
- Kate Warner: I thought he might be responsible for the missing money so I hired an investigator to do an audit
- Bob Warner: You hired someone to spy on Reza?
- Kate Warner: I thought he was stealing from you
- Bob Warner: And is he?
- Kate Warner: No, something else came up, something a lot worse: Reza may be involved with a terrorist
- Bob Warner: What?
- Kate Warner: Apparently, he has been in contact with someone who finances terrorist operations. A man called Syed Ali
- Kate Warner: What kind of proof does he have?
- Kate Warner: I'm not sure
- Bob Warner: You're not sure?
- Kate Warner: He only called me about this hour ago. He told me not to tell anyone but I had to tell you
- Bob Warner: Whatever this investigator found, there's an explanation for it. Honey, you hired a man to dig up dirt, his going to dig up dirt, that's how these guys stay in business
- Kate Warner: What if you're wrong?
- Bob Warner: I'm not
- Kate Warner: How do you know?
- Bob Warner: Because I had Reza checked out myself and a lot more thoroughly than the guy you hired: believe me. Kate, Reza is not a terrorist. I'm a business man, a damn good one. My daughters are my most precious assets. I wouldn't let either one of you get married without doing due diligence. Now I want you to drop this nonsense and start treating Reza like a member of this family ok?
- Reza Naiyeer: Hey guys
- Bob Warner: Hey
- Reza Naiyeer: I think my cousin has a little crush on you Kate. He wouldn't stop talking about you on the way back to the hotel
- Kate Warner: He seems nice
- Reza Naiyeer: He is
- Kate Warner: Well, I promised Marie I'd pick up lunch. I better get going
- Reza Naiyeer: Let me take you
- Kate Warner: Its ok, I can handle it
- Reza Naiyeer: Honestly when you say Marie you're going to need another pair of hands
- Kate Warner: Really, I can do it
- Bob Warner: [Sternly] Kate, go
- Eric Rayburn: [after watching news coverage of the bombing at CTU] as far as I'm concerned this tips in favor of the evacuation
- President David Palmer: I assume you've all read Eric's report recommending the evacuation of Los Angeles?
- Eric Rayburn: The CTU bombing is just the beginning: it's only a matter of time before the questions become rumors and the rumors set off a mass panic
- Lynne Kresge: Wouldn't the evacuation itself cause panic?
- Eric Rayburn: We can do this discreetly in stages. We've prepared "cover stories."
- Lynne Kresge: [Sarcastically] that's a pretty tough sell for nine million people
- Eric Rayburn: General Preston assures me that the military can contain any civilian unrest
- Lynne Kresge: "Contain" rather sounds like a euphemism not to mention the Constitutional issues
- Eric Rayburn: I don't claim for this to be a Cakewalk
- Lynne Kresge: [Leans forward] there's a practical issue that I don't see being addressed here
- Eric Rayburn: What's that?
- Lynne Kresge: Our intelligence is specific about this nuclear device being detonated sometime today. Now your report says it'll take at least one week for this evacuation
- Eric Rayburn: It's my job to protect as many citizens of the United States as I can. If I can get twenty percent of the population outside the blast radius, that's a win
- Lynne Kresge: We don't even know where the bomb is. Where do you suggest we begin this evacuation?
- Eric Rayburn: My staff has ranked ten high probability targeted areas...
- President David Palmer: [Interrupts him] that's not good enough. Look I realize you've only had a short time to prepare this. But I have some real reservations
- Eric Rayburn: Bottom line Mr. President it protects you politically. If the bomb goes off...
- President David Palmer: [Interrupts him] if the bomb goes off, we'll have more important concerns than my reelection
- President David Palmer: [to Lynn] do you have anything else to add?
- Lynne Kresge: No Sir
- President David Palmer: [to his senior staff] then we're done here: until we have reliable intelligence about where the bomb is located, there will be no evacuation
- President David Palmer: [to Lynn] let General Davos know that I'm ready for him
- Lynne Kresge: Yes Sir
- Jack Bauer: [Talking through the door] it's Jack, let me in
- Joseph Wald: Where's Eddie?
- Jack Bauer: His dead
- Joseph Wald: What about Chris and Scott?
- Jack Bauer: Their dead too, come on let me in
- Joseph Wald: I just talked to Eddie half an hour ago
- Jack Bauer: We've got to do this inside. Let me in
- Joseph Wald: [after letting him in] Eddie said this job went off without a hitch, what happened between then and now?
- Jack Bauer: [Pointing a gun at him] I killed them: for resisting arrest. I'll kill you too. I mean it. Put it down on the table. Have a seat on the couch
- Joseph Wald: You killed Goren?
- Jack Bauer: I did what I had to find you
- Joseph Wald: Then what? What do you want?
- Jack Bauer: Who told you to hit CTU today?
- Joseph Wald: What makes you think anyone told me to do anything?
- Jack Bauer: [Raises his voice] because there's a nuclear device somewhere in Los Angeles set to go off today. That's right. CTU was a secondary target: a way of stopping us getting to the bomb. Whoever got you to do this job, they used you. They set you up
- Joseph Wald: You're lying
- Jack Bauer: No, this time I'm telling you the truth. How else do you think I got to Goren? Come on your not stupid. Think about it. Why did you hit CTU today? Of all the days you could've, why did you hit CTU today? You weren't just told where to hit. You were told when. That's the truth. So I'm going to give one last chance. Who told you to hit CTU today?
- Reza Naiyeer: You don't like me very much do you?
- Kate Warner: [laughs] that's crazy
- Reza Naiyeer: I've been working for your father for what? Three years now. Dating Marie for two. You and I never really got to know each other
- Kate Warner: No, we haven't
- Reza Naiyeer: So you don't know who I am
- Kate Warner: I know my sister loves you
- Reza Naiyeer: Yes she does
- George Mason: What's going on here?
- Tony Almeida: I should ask you the same question: I thought you weren't coming back here?
- George Mason: I changed my mind
- Tony Almeida: Oh, you did? Why?
- George Mason: I don't have to answer to you so drop the attitude
- George Mason: [to the Paramedic, referring to Paula's injuries] how bad is she?
- Tony Almeida: [Answering for the Paramedic] bad, she's bleeding internally
- George Mason: [to the Paramedic] anything you can do for her at the hospital you can do here?
- Hazmat Paramedic: No, she needs surgery, We can't do that in the field
- George Mason: They're going to put her under anesthesia?
- Hazmat Paramedic: That's right
- Tony Almeida: What're you doing George?
- George Mason: How long is she going to be under?
- Hazmat Paramedic: Couple of hours
- George Mason: Then she stays here
- Hazmat Paramedic: We can't keep her here
- George Mason: Look, everything we have on this nuke has been destroyed. The only Intel we have left is the database Paula sent to the NSA and they didn't get the code
- Tony Almeida: Well then we'll assign other IT people to retrieve it
- George Mason: She's the only one who can decrypt those files and you know it
- Tony Almeida: [Raising his voice] we'll send a programmer to get it
- George Mason: We don't have time. I need her here and I need her lucid. Just for a few minutes. I don't care what you have to do. Can you get her conscious?
- Hazmat Paramedic: I can administer epinephrine maybe get her BP up temporarily
- Tony Almeida: You're out of your mind George. You're crazy
- George Mason: Tell yourself that if it makes you feel better
- Tony Almeida: This girl deserves a chance to live
- Lynne Kresge: [while handing him a file folder] Sir, this is Jenny's statement to the press about the CTU bombing: I took a quick pass but we can go over it when you get a chance alright?
- President David Palmer: [as she's leaving the room] were you ever going to tell me? About the thirty minutes Jack Bauer called and the time you finally warned CTU. I am the President of the United States, did you think I wouldn't find out? What possible reason could you have had for keeping this information from me?
- Lynne Kresge: Sir, I tried to tell you
- President David Palmer: Not hard enough
- Lynne Kresge: Sir, when Jack Bauer called you were with the press corp. I desperately tried to get a message to you
- President David Palmer: Good. Now after we had found out CTU had been hit you still kept from me the fact that you knew thirty minutes earlier
- Lynne Kresge: [Shaking her head] Sir, you're right. There is no excuse, none
- President David Palmer: After Jack Bauer called, did you tell anyone else? You told Rayburn didn't you? And he was the one who wanted you to keep it from me. That's why you two were arguing before
- Lynne Kresge: Sir, I think under the circumstances, I think it would be best I tender my resignation... .
- President David Palmer: [Interrupts her] I'll decide what's best
- Lynne Kresge: Yes Sir
- President David Palmer: As much as I appreciate the gesture, I don't have time to appease your guilty conscience. I still trust you and I still trust that you will tell me everything that happened
- Michelle Dessler: Why is Paula still here?
- Tony Almeida: Mason's call
- Michelle Dessler: She has almost no chance of surviving unless we get her to a hospital now
- Tony Almeida: Yeah I know
- Michelle Dessler: I thought Mason wasn't coming back?
- Tony Almeida: Well, his back. His trying to revive Paula long enough so she can access the information she was sending to NSA
- Michelle Dessler: So, his just going to let her die?
- Tony Almeida: I'm not so sure that Mason made the wrong call. Look, Paula is the only person who can retrieve that information
- Michelle Dessler: [after putting her hand on his back to comfort him] I'm sorry
- Tony Almeida: It's just that I'm the one who brought her to CTU. I hired her: this job is all she ever wanted to do. She never had a chance to do it
- Michelle Dessler: She did
- Tony Almeida: We better get back to work
- President David Palmer: [Firing him] you're out Eric: effective immediately
- Eric Rayburn: Sir, if this is about...
- President David Palmer: [Interrupts him] you know exactly what this is about. You lied to me
- Eric Rayburn: Is that what Lynn told you?
- President David Palmer: Lynn didn't have to tell me anything
- Eric Rayburn: You can't dismiss me now Sir, not now. Not in the middle of a crisis. You need me here
- President David Palmer: I need someone I can trust
- Eric Rayburn: I made a decision you couldn't make
- President David Palmer: I'm the only one who could make it. Now twenty-seven people are dead
- Eric Rayburn: Collateral damage Sir. Regrettable but necessary so Jack Bauer can get to Joseph Wald
- President David Palmer: [Signaling to the Secret Service agent to enter the room] get him out of here. Mr. Armus is waiting for him
