SkyShowtime, the European streaming joint venture of Sky owner Comcast and Showtime owner Paramount Global, has appointed former Netflix executive Kai Finke as chief content officer, CEO Monty Sarhan unveiled on Monday.
Based in Amsterdam and reporting to Sarhan, Finke will lead the programming team, overseeing “the vast and growing scope of the department, following SkyShowtime’s entry into original programming this year,” the company said. He will be responsible for the streamer’s pipeline of partner studio entertainment, merchandising and scheduling, as well as its original programming slate and acquisitions.

In May 2007, Rob Corddry was out of a job for the first time in years. He had just left a plum correspondent role on “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart,” to headline Seth MacFarlane’s first live action comedy, “The Winner.” But that sitcom was cancelled after six episodes. Then, the television writer’s strike hit.
“I had nothing to do and no money and a baby,” Corddry told IndieWire. “Luckily, we were allowed to do Internet stuff during the strike.”
That led Corddry to create “Childrens Hospital,” the absurdist hospital drama satire that began as a web series on the now-defunct TheWB.com in 2008. Adult Swim then picked it up, and “Childrens Hospital” ran for seven seasons and 86 episodes before wrapping up in April.
“Children’s Hospital” received four Emmy nominations this year, the most of any show in the expanded short form programming categories. “It always just seemed beyond a possibility to me,...

Seth MacFarlane has had great success executive producing animated sitcoms on Fox but his last live-action series, The Winner, was cancelled after six episodes in 2007. How will Dads perform? Renewed for a second season or quickly canned? Is it worth watching?
Dads follows the lives of two successful video game developers (Seth Green and Giovanni Ribisi) whose lives are dramatically changed when their fathers (Martin Mull and Peter Riegeret) move in with them. Brenda Song, Tonita Castro, and Vanessa Lachey round out the cast.
Sound like fun? Well, here's what some of the critics are saying:
THR: "As for Dads, well, there’s not much to say about this retro stink bomb that, with its overly-eager laugh track and broad-but-not-funny humor, might have been better on CBS. (Because if it was, it would make all those race-and-vagina jokes on 2 Broke Girls...

Seth MacFarlane is to re-team with the writers of his movie Ted for a new Fox comedy. The project has received a put-pilot commitment from Fox and would mark MacFarlane's first live-action series for the network since 2007's short-lived The Winner. Written and exec produced by Ted co-writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild alongside MacFarlane, the sitcom will follow two men who find their lives turned upside down when their "crazy fathers" move in with them, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Seth MacFarlane and Fox continue to broaden their business relationship. THR reports that the network has placed a pilot order with series penalty commitment for a live-action comedy from MacFarlane and the writers of Ted. The untitled project will be written and executive produced by Ted co-writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, with MacFarlane serving as exec producer.
The single-camera comedy follows "two successful guys in their 30s and the insanity that ensues after their crazy fathers unexpectedly move in with them."
Sulkin and Wild have previously worked with MacFarlane on Family Guy and The Cleveland Show. If this show gets picked up, it will be MacFarlane's first live-action show since 2007's The Winner. MacFarlane's animated take on The Flinstones is currently on hold with the network. A sequel to Ted is currently being considered, but that is understandable after it grossed more than $400 million worldwide.

The Panel: Lea Michele (Rachel), Cory Monteith (Finn), Darren Criss (Blaine), Kevin McHale (Artie), Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina), Naya Rivera (Santana), executive producers Brad Falchuk, Ian Brennan, Dante Diloreto.
The Big Revelations: The producers were mum on big revelations, but here are a few tidbits:
The next Britney Spears tribute will be the second episode of the season and feature Heather Morris heavily. The episode will also explore Rachel’s transition to New York. Comic-Con International has released the full schedule for Sunday July 24th for San Diego Comic-Con 2011. This is the final day of the convention. Sunday is known as Kids day and is usually the slowest of all the days, there are a few surprises though. In all my years of going to Comic-Con I've never been to a panel in Hal H. Usually nothing is happening in Hall H on Sunday, this year there are a few TV programs going on in Hall H such a as Glee, Supernatural, Doctor Who, The Cleveland Show, Sons of Anarchy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and this year Buffy the Musical will be in the great Hall as well. I've never been to the Buffy Musical event, and I think I finally want to go this year. A couple of other things worth noting are a one on one panel with Nathan Fillion, and Max Brooks talks about zombies.

A Picture Might Be Worth A Thousand Words. Too Bad One Of Them Wasn't "Gay"
While it's ludicrous to say anything "positive" came out of the horrible shooting in Tucson last week, those events have given the Glbt community one very remarkable development — a bona fide hero who happens to be an out gay man. That hero is twenty-year-old University of Arizona student Daniel Hernandez, Jr. who is being so lauded for his actions that he not only spoke at the memorial for the victims on Wednesday night, but sat to the right of President Obama.
I confess that because I've been attending the TCA in Los Angeles this week, I haven't been able to follow the coverage as much as I would've liked. So what I can't say with any certainty is whether or not the fact that Hernandez is gay has been widely reported. I do know, however,...

With all the craziness that happens on Adult Swim‘s Childrens Hospital, it was good to talk to the more normal people in the cast, Lake Bell and Erinn Hayes.
Ok, they were as nutty as their cast members and I loved it!
Lake plays ‘Dr. Cat Black’ and Erinn is ‘Dr. Lola Spratt’ and they’re both terrifically funny in the show.
Lake is also currently starring in HBO’s How To Make It In America and Erinn was in the short-lived series, Worst Week.
This was a round-table interview at Comic-Con and here we talk about working with the actual children of Childrens Hospital, moving a web-series to TV and more!

No Gay. Lesbian Joke. No Gay. Gay Joke. No Gay. Ooh, Look An Actual Gay!
This week the major networks announced their fall line-ups and mid-season replacements, and overall the news wasn't great for gay characters. Ugly Betty had already been deep-sixed on ABC, and as expected, NBC axed Trauma with gay paramedic Tyler and Mercy with gay nurse Angel, while the CW dropped Melrose Place, not that what's his face got much screentime anyway. Also not unexpectedly, ABC isn't bringing back the hilarious Better Off Ted which had two out actors Jonathan Slavin and Portia de Rossi, and which was usually gay-friendly.
Of the pilots that weren't picked up, the two biggest disappointments were ABC passing on the Cheyenne Jackson/Christopher Sieber sitcom It Takes a Village and CBS not going for the drama The Quinn-tuplets, both of which featured significant gay content.
So what did the networks go for of gay interest?...

If ABC's new sitcom "Romantically Challenged," which stars Alyssa Milano, were an "American Idol" contestant, this review might go something like this:
Hi, Romantically. How you doing tonight? Well, first of all let me say, you look great, and I really do like you. But honestly, that was all over the place for me. I just didn't really get what you were going for there. I know -- "Booo." Sorry.
Because, here's the thing: Milano is gorgeous in "Romantically Challenged" as a newly divorced woman who's not sure how to be single, and she's always been a likable actress. The show, created by "Family Guy" and "The Winner" veteran Ricky Blitt and directed by sitcom king James Burrows, is fairly appealing visually and moves along at a reasonably quick pace. But something about its rhythm is off, and as a result the show never quite hits the target it wants to hit.

Jason Jones is the latest "Daily Show" correspondent heading to primetime.
The actor-comedian has been tapped as the lead in ABC's comedy pilot "How to Be a Better American."
"American" centers on a father (Jones) who embarks on a journey to be a better person and drags his family along kicking and screaming.
Jones, who has worked on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" since 2005, co-penned a comedy project for CBS with his wife and fellow "Daily Show" corespondent Samantha Bee last season, which was eyed as a potential starring vehicle for them. He also did an arc on CBS' "How I Met Your Mother."
Jones follows in the footsteps of other "Daily Show" correspondents who have gone to primetime, including Steve Carell and Ed Helms of "The Office"; Rob Corddry, who toplined Fox's "The Winner"; and most recently Rob Riggle, who stars in CBS' multicamera pilot "Team Spitz.

Childrens’ Hospital Is the best web series. Ever. There, I said it. It was predicted right here and let me tell you, this tidal wave of genius has no problem living up to all that hype. This show gives the McSteamys and McDreamys all a collective punch in their McPlace-where-their-catheters-go. This might be the best piece of comedy I’ve seen, in any format, all year. It’s not surprising, really. Childrens’ Hospital has one hell of a pedigree. It is produced for TheWB.com by Rob Corddry, David Wain and Jonathan Stern. I don’t even know if these guys need an intro anymore. But I’ll break it down for you last remaining comedy neophytes out there. It's no big surprise that CBS is considering making a change to its Monday night line-up. Though Worst Week was hailed by critics as the best new sitcom of the season (not that there's much competition for that title), the public doesn't agree.
Worst Week debuted on September 22nd on CBS. The quirky, single-camera sitcom follows unlucky Sam (Kyle Bornheimer) as he tries to make a good impression on the family of his pregnant fiancé. The series, a remake of a UK sitcom, also stars Erinn Hayes (The Winner), Nancy Lenehan (Grace Under Fire), and Kurtwood Smith (That '70s Show).
The sitcom premiered in the plum spot following CBS' most-watched sitcom, Two and a Half Men. Unfortunately, Week doesn't seem to be a good fit. The show debuted to 9.3 million viewers and a 3.1/7 rating/share in the 18-49 demographic. It was nearly tied for second place in viewers (with the...

Diablo Cody's comedy pilot "The United States of Tara" is moving closer to a series order at Showtime with the hire of writer-producer Alexa Junge.
Additionally, Portia Doubleday and Keir Gilchrist have joined the cast of the DreamWorks TV-produced pilot, which stars Toni Collette as Tara, a wife and mother with multiple-personality syndrome.
Junge has been tapped to serve as executive producer should the single-camera project get a series pickup. She would exec produce alongside Cody, Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank.
Junge was a supervising producer on NBC's "The West Wing" and co-exec producer on "Friends". She is repped by WMA, manager Ann Blanchard at Mosaic Media Group and attorney Michael Gendler.
Production on the pilot for "Tara", which Craig Gillespie is directing, will begin in April in Los Angeles.
Newcomer Doubleday and Gilchrist (Fox's "The Winner") will play Tara's teens. John Corbett recently was cast as her husband.
Gilchrist is repped by ICM, Thruline and Amanda Rosenthal in Canada. Doubleday is repped by IFA Talent Agency.

CBS has picked up Single White Millionaire, a comedy pilot from The Winner creator Ricky Blitt.
The multicamera comedy, which has received a cast-contingent order, centers on an unassuming millionaire in his thirties who is ready to settle down.
Warner Bros. Television is producing Millionaire, which was written on spec.
Family Guy alum Blitt most recently collaborated with "Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane on Fox's comedy series Winner, which starred Rob Corddry as a successful fortysomething man who looks back at the time when he was a 32-year-old slacker living with his parents.
The pickup for Millionaire follows CBS' pilot orders last week of the dramas The Mentalist, Ny-Lon, Mythological X and Can Openers.
The multicamera comedy, which has received a cast-contingent order, centers on an unassuming millionaire in his thirties who is ready to settle down.

At the Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane discussed the possibility of a Family Guy movie. He said that, though there are no story ideas as yet and Fox hasn't given the greenlight, it's a project he'd like to do. MacFarlane said, "We have been trying to figure out how to do [a movie] and the series at the same time without the series suffering."
One source of help may be Ricky Blitt, a former writer on Family Guy. Blitt also created The Winner sitcom which ran on Fox last season to low ratings. MacFarlane says he may ask Blitt to start on a Family Guy movie script but also said there may be some life left in Winner. MacFarlane offered, "It is looking like there could be a future life for The Winner. I hope it pans out." MacFarlane didn't offer any further details but...

JFL wrap-up: Comics bank their laughs at fest
MONTREAL -- The team behind Fox's hit animated show "Family Guy" has been looking at possibly working on a "Family Guy" movie down the line, creator Seth MacFarlane told The Hollywood Reporter here Saturday. He also said Fox comedy "The Winner", on which he serves as an executive producer, may not be dead yet after new developments in recent weeks.
"It is looking like there could be a future life for 'The Winner.' I hope it pans out," MacFarlane said, without providing specifics. "We have been trying to figure out how to do that and the series at the same time without the series suffering," he said about a potential "Family Guy" feature, adding that this is a challenge that also caused the "Simpsons" film to come about so late.
One possible solution, according to MacFarlane, is to have Ricky Blitt, the creator of "Winner" and a longtime ex-writer for "Family Guy" who has since moved on to other work, start on the movie script.
