Trailers for ‘Clash of the Titans’ and ‘Kick-Ass’ arrive online

12 hours ago | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Trailers for Clash of the Titans and Kick-Ass have debuted this week and it is our obligatory duty to show them to those who have yet to see them.

Clash of the Titans is the remake of the 1981 film of the same name, itself loosely based on the Greek myth of Perseus. The film is directed by Louis Leterrier and stars Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes.

Clash of the Titans arrives in theaters on March 26, 2010.

Kick-Ass centers on a lonely teenage boy, Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), who decides to become a real-life superhero after being inspired by the heroes of comic-books. He soon encounters a mysterious vigilante called Big-Daddy (Nicolas Cage), and his daughter Hit Girl (Chloë Moretz), who are working to bring down the drug baron, Frank D’Amico.

The film is based on the graphic novel work of Mark Millar (Wanted) and John Romita, Jr.

Elfman Replaced On "The Wolfman"

20 hours ago | www.ohmygore.com/ | See recent OhMyGore news »

Famed "Batman", "Spider-man", "Men In Black" and "Wanted" composer Danny Elfman has been given the boot from the upcoming big budget "The Wolfman" remake according to Cinemusic.net and The Playlist. What's strange is Elfman had apparently already written an entire score for the new horror movie said to be similar to Wojciech Kilar's haunting work in "Bram Stocker's Dracula", however the film's constantly shifting release dates mean that Elfman simply doesn't have the time to stay with the project and finish his work. Instead, Paul Haslinger ("Underworld", "Shoot 'Em Up") has been brought onboard to do the film's soundtrack and no doubt give it a more grungy, rock-based sound. In a strange bit of similitude, Haslinger was a member of Tangerine Dream - the influential 80's electronic... »

‘Red’ Adds More Award-Winning Actors To Cast

13 November 2009 9:46 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

We haven’t been keeping enough tabs on the adaptation of Red, based on the comic book mini-series created by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner and published by DC/Wildstorm between 2003-2004. The film adaptation first popped onto our radar when action man Bruce Willis signed-on to star, followed soon after by the news that acclaimed actor Morgan Freeman would be joining Willis . Completing the trifecta of acting heavyweights, last week we heard that Helen Mirren was onboard for Red; that’s three Golden Globe and/or Oscar-winners coming together for an obscure comic book flick! Crazy, right?

Well it gets even crazier, as we now have more famous names to add to the cast list of Red… Last week news broke that Mary Louise Parker (Weeds) and John C. Reily were in talks for the film, and today we learn  (thanks to Collider) that they will be joined by »

More Cast For Red

12 November 2009 11:36 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Red's defiantly no-youngsters casting continues, with the news that Richard Dreyfuss, Brian Cox and Ernest Borgnine are all in talks to join Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren in the adaptation of the Warren Ellis comic. A spring chicken by comparison, erstwhile Dr Doom Julian McMahon is also in the frame.Yup, you read that right. The legendary Ernest Borgnine, still working at 92, will play a shady keeper of the CIA's most compromising files. Dreyfuss is a wealthy government contractor, and Cox is a former cold-war spy, and sworn enemy of Willis. McMahon's character is described by The Hollywood Reporter as "a vice president at the centre of the shadow conspiracy": maybe a henchman to Freeman's CIA director, who wants retired agent Willis rubbed out by the next generation, to prevent word of his former activities ever leaking. So that's cast-members from Sin City, X-Men, Wanted and The »

Another New Poster for ‘Kick-Ass’

12 November 2009 10:00 AM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

Lionsgate has really stepped up on the marketing for their newest Marvel comic-turned-film, Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass. In a matter of a week, we’ve already gotten a peak at four new character posters, the brand new website, the first official teaser, and now we’re getting yet another poster to check out.

For those not in the know, the film is based on the Mark Millar (Wanted) comic where superheroes are all about as real as they are in the real world, except there are a few who feel they need to take vigilante justice into their own hands. That’s where Dave Lizewski comes in. Dave is a less-than-average highschooler who has never really done anything with his life, until he dons the identity of Kick-Ass, and takes to the streets.

The film will be an interesting test to see if the regular audience is ready for a »

Interview: The Future of Voltron - Jeremy Corray

11 November 2009 12:19 PM, PST | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

With budgets on the rise and total investments for studio pictures creeping toward the half a billion dollar mark, Hollywood needs a sure thing. So we hear terms like, “built-in audience” or “high-concept” or “ancillary revenues.” The summer movie schedule becomes a long list of sequels, prequels and remakes in the studios’ quest to recoup their investments. The success of the Transformer franchise has them scrambling. Cartoons from the 80’s are now the hot property. The studios are scouring the countryside for the next Transformers. I’m hearing names that I haven’t heard since I was eight, He-man, Thundercats, Go-Bots, Silverhawks and the Mighty Orbots. But one of the most popular cartoons from the 80’s is still out there, Voltron.

I remember the years 1984-1986 fondly as “the Voltron years.” I lived, breathed, ate and slept Voltron. I believe I was 10 when I discovered the company that owns Voltron, »

Kick-Ass Teaser Trailer

11 November 2009 6:07 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

We've been anxiously awaiting the release of the first official trailer for Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass, and although the trailer still isn't supposed to go online at MySpace for another couple of days, it has apparently leaked elsewhere... and Lionsgate seems okay with that. So here it is. The movie is based on the comic book by Mark Millar (Wanted) and focuses on a high school kid who decides to become a superhero... with no super powers whatsoever. The trailer certainly makes it seem like the movie is heavy on comedy (particularly with the presence of Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Clark Duke), but only hints at some of the brutal violence that is also reportedly contained within. If I didn't know any better, I would think it was just another superhero spoof. Still, as someone who enjoyed the big screen adaptation of Wanted, but enjoyed the comic even more, I think »

Kick-Ass Trailer Drops Officially, Remains Devious and Fun

10 November 2009 5:46 PM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Lionsgate has somewhat inadvertently released the teaser trailer for Matthew Vaughn's latest flick, the comic book adaptation Kick-Ass. Based on the ultraviolent comic book series from Wanted scribe Mark Millar, Kick-Ass tells the story of Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a hapless loser who asks the great question, "why hasn't anyone ever tried to be a real superhero?" And despite his lack of superpowers, he becomes the crimefighter Kick-Ass and takes on bad guys. But as he soon finds out, these bad guys use real weapons and really do want to kill him. You can see the first trailer below, which I'm told by our email scoop-hound Joe was taken from the film's official site (though I don't see it there anymore -- we've got an embed from Trailer Addict). The undoubtedly hilarious and heavily violent Kick-Ass hits theaters April 16, 2010. »

Kick-Ass teaser!

10 November 2009 1:00 PM, PST | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

The new teaser for the sardonic superhero flick Kick-ass seems to do a decent job of getting the premise across: a geeky teen randomly decided to become a costumed vigilante, and kinda sucks at it. Superbad's Christopher Mintz-Plasse is a colorful competitor named Red Mist, and Nic Cage and Chloe Moretz play a violent father-daughter crimefighter team (Mark Strong is the gangster in their sights). The flick comes from director Matthew Vaughn (Stardust, Layer Cake), who independently financed the movie, based on the high-concept (and endlessly delayed) comic series by Wanted writer Mark Millar. »

Elfman No Longer Composing the 'Wolfman' Score

10 November 2009 1:17 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

I'll probably receive a host of contrary comments on this, but I've never reaaly gotten the whole Danny Elfman fascination. His signature scores don't strike me as sounding all that different, and the ones that feel more like mortgage payments - Wanted and Notorious in the past 18 months, for example - sure don't stand out all that often. Nacho Libre, anyone?

My own feelings aside, how in the world do you pick anyone but Elfman to score The Wolfman? Again, go back to those signature scores Elfman has composed, and this thing seems tailor made for his gothic symphonies.

Well, he was working on the score, but with the film's delayed post-production, there are now scheduling conflicts keeping Elfman out of the project, according to CineMusic. But just as you hire Randy Newman for jaunty cartoon scores (with whimsical original songs), you should always fit your dark monster movie into Elfman's schedule. »

'Man on Wire' Helmer Has Found Some 'Vatican Tapes'

9 November 2009 11:21 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

James Marsh directed the 2008 documentary Man On Wire, a film that still holds a 100% rating at RottenTomatoes, which is something of an anomaly considering the ability to get everyone to agree on a film is damn near impossible. Now, Marsh has chosen his next feature in which he will pull a complete 180, divorcing himself from a legitimate documentary and enter the world of found footage mockumentaries.

The Hollywood Reporter brings word Marsh will direct The Vatican Tapes which will center on a series of events that unfold after a tape gets leaked from the Vatican displaying an exorcism that goes wrong. Chris Borrelli, co-writer of the upcoming direct-to-video release The Marine 2, penned the script based on a story by Borrelli and Chris Morgan (Wanted, Fast and Furious).

The film is set up at Lionsgate and Lakeshore and is obviously hoping to follow the wave created by Paranormal Activity and you »

Man on Wire Director Hired for Exorcism Thriller The Vatican Tapes

9 November 2009 7:55 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

You want more "found footage" horror? You got it! Lionsgate and Lakeshore Entertainment are prepping development of a new thriller called The Vatican Tapes, about an exorcism gone awry. The story, which was conceived by Chris Morgan (Wanted, Fast & Furious) and written by Chris Borrelli (The Marine 2), involves a tape that gets leaked from The Vatican with footage of this frightening exorcism. While it's unclear if the entire movie will actually be the footage itself, this week they've announced that they've hired Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker James Marsh to direct it. Marsh is best known for the fantastic 2008 doc Man on Wire, about Philippe Petit's tightrope walk between the World Trade Center towers, but most recently he directed Red Riding: 1980, a fictionalized crime thriller about the Yorkshire Ripper murders in England. I have to admit, I really like the sound of this, but great documentary directors don't always make »

Marsh Listens To Vatican Tapes

8 November 2009 11:44 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

James Marsh won plaudits and a Best Documentary Oscar for Man On Wire, the story of tightrope artist Philippe Petit and his amazing walk between the towers of the World Trade Centre in 1974. But now he's abandoning the real world for a supernatural thriller called The Vatican Tapes, which is sadly not about the Pope's '80s mix selections. No, instead of Do You Really Want To Hurt Me and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, this is a tale with a horror tinge, about a Vatican tape of an exorcism gone wrong being leaked. We're guessing that the results could resemble a cross between Paranormal Activity and The Exorcism of Emily Rose, but only time will tell. The screenplay's by Chris Borrelli, a former visual effects guy who previously wrote horror movie Whisper and action-fest The Marine 2. Chris Morgan, one of the writers on Wanted and Fast & Furious, also worked on the story. »

Kick-Ass Character Posters Spell Things Out

5 November 2009 6:48 PM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

The folks at IGN have debuted for new character posters from the upcoming Lionsgate release Kick-Ass, from director Matthew Vaughn and the mind of Wanted writer Mark Millar. This comic property, now highly anticipated due to a wicked-cool showing at the San Diego Comic-Con this year, will star Nicolas Cage, Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse as average folks (mostly kids) who dress up as superheros and take on crime. Well, sort of. The new round of posters shows off the characters in costume. And when put together -- seen above -- they spell out the film's title and the most likely pun that critics will use if the film succeeds with its plans to delight audiences with mayhem: Kick-Ass kicks ass. Get it? Alas, here are the posters and some character descriptions. Click any of the posters to see the larger versions at IGN. First up is Davi Lizewski (Johnson), the central character of the »

John C. Reilly and Mary-Louise Parker Go 'Red'

5 November 2009 4:32 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

When Warren Ellis' Red was first optioned, I wasn't particularly excited. As readers have pointed out, Ellis has many books that would be more exciting to see on the big screen. The initial casting of Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman didn't inspire a lot of excitement, either. (I love both, but Willis as an ex-assassin? Hardly inspired.) But as Robert Schwentke has filled out his cast, things have gotten a lot more interesting. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mary-Louise Parker and John C. Reilly are in talks to join Red alongside Freeman, Willis, and Helen Mirren.

Reilly would play a retired CIA agent who is paranoid that everyone is out to kill him. Willis' predicament will naturally prove him right, and it's the frantic, nervous role that Reilly specializes in. Again, it's not the most inspired casting, but it's exciting to see Reilly finally land a comic book role. »

Kick-Ass posters

5 November 2009 2:42 PM, PST | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

It's certainly looking like Kick-ass was a gamble that will pay off. Director Matthew Vaughn (Stardust, Layer Cake) independently financed the movie, based on the high-concept shock book by Wanted comic writer Mark Millar. Massive fan response at Comic Con then led to a studio bidding war, and now Lionsgate has the movie coming out in April (with enough confidence to bump Sly's The Expendables from that date into August). The ultraviolent story revolves around a geeky teen who randomly... »

Angelina Jolie in New Teaser Trailer as Agent Salt

4 November 2009 5:42 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

I love salt, all types of salt really – Sea salt, table salt, rock salt and Evelyn Salt. Not familiar with that last one? She’s next summer’s female action spy played the ever so pouty-lipped Angelina Jolie. At one point, Tom Cruise was rumored to be attached to the Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games, The Bone Collector) directed secret double agent yarn but ultimately, Noyce and company decided to go with a more feminine touch. Good move guys!

Jolie has proven time and again that she is the go-to woman in Hollywood for lead female action roles. Say what you want about the Tomb Raider movie, but as Lara Croft there can be no other woman playing the part. Same goes for her roles in Mr. and Mrs. Smith and last summer’s Wanted. In Salt, she appears to be just as convincing while playing a wrongly accused woman on the run. »
