22 December 2009 12:10 AM, PST | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

"Three skiers are stranded on a chairlift and forced to make life-or-death choices that prove more perilous than staying put and freezing to death." That's the lean premise of Adam Green's (Spiral, Hatchet)new chiller (excuse the bad pun please) premiering at this year's Sundance.

When I first heard about this I thought "boring!" and after watching the trailer, I'm still not convinced. But I liked Spiral, so I'll definitely watch it.

Synopsis:

On a chilly winter night, three skiers huddle together on a chairlift, confused as to why their ride to the summit suddenly stops. The sting of the icy wind worsens when the floodlights power down, leaving them stranded in the dark. As they wait for help, the reality of the nightmare hits them.

The ski resort has just closed, abandoning the group stranded high above the mountain slopes in an oncoming snow storm. With ominous howls echoing through the surrounding woods, »

Sundance Primer: Frozen

15 December 2009 5:48 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

If all you know of Adam Green is Hatchet, you might be surprised to learn that A) he co-directed a rather fine psycho-thriller called Spiral, B) he produced a very impressive new horror film called Grace, C) he's done over a dozen short films, most of which are hilarious, and D) he's jumping into Hatchet 2 in only a few weeks. But before that happens, Green would love for us to check out his latest directorial effort, Frozen. It's the story of three friends who ... well, let's let Adam spill the beans:

Cinematical: Give us the "guy on the street" synopsis of the film.

Adam Green: Frozen is about three skiers who find themselves stranded and forgotten on a chair lift at a tiny New England ski mountain that is going to be closed until the following weekend. Fifty feet in the air and facing severe weather and other terrible forces of nature, »

After discovering a slew of Anchor Bay Entertainment titles had quietly become available on Blu-Ray today, we did some more digging to see if any other notable releases from their already vast library were coming up and we stumbled upon one definitely worth mentioning. Spiral , Adam Green's Hatchet follow-up and second feature film (co-directed with lead actor Joel Moore) is getting a Blu-Ray release on February 2nd, 2010. Not only that, it looks like Anchor Bay has changed the front cover artwork for this edition to more prominently feature all three of the indie flicks lead stars Joel David Moore (next seen in Avatar ), Zachary Levi (NBC's Chuck ) and Amber Tamblyn ( The Grudge 2 ). Being that the film was successful, everybody wanted us to do a sequel immediately, but again -- we were all Hatcheted out! We didn't want to make a Hatchet movie just to make a Hatchet movie. Icons Exclusive: The Original Grace Short Film - With & Without Commentary!

17 September 2009 8:58 PM, PDT | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

It's no secret that Icons Of Fright has had a long history with filmmaker Paul Solet and his movie Grace. We've been firm supporters of this talented up and coming writer & director since we first met him at a Fangoria Weekend Of Horrors show back in 2005 and we were there to help out when the time came for him to make his short film version of Grace back in 2006. Since then (as the story goes), the fine gents over at Ariescope stepped in and helped get the feature length film made. With Grace: "The Movie" now out & available everywhere on DVD and Blu-Ray, we thought it'd be fun to go back and look at the original 6 minute short film that started it all. Not only that but we also put together a second version of the Grace short film with a commentary track by writer/director Paul Solet and »

Event Report: Film4 Frightfest 2009

3 September 2009 2:11 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

So, the August bank holiday has passed for another year and that means one thing – The Film4 Frightfest in London has just finished. This year held a special meaning to the festival though, with it greeting its 10th year in existence having moved, during that time, from humble beginnings in the Prince Charles Cinema, to the grander Odeon Leicester Square and finally, for the first time this year, to the Empire Cinema (also in Leicester Square). The Empire houses the largest cinema screen in the UK, which was used to display the main catalogue of films this year round. Trust me, this thing is absolutely massive.

Second to this, also for the first time ever, Frightfest organisers Alan, Ian, Paul and Greg decided to commandeer a smaller screen to show those movies they felt should be in the Fest, but couldn’t be worked into the main programme. This screen »
