Here's the perfect illustration of how critics and mainstream audiences don't always coincide. The site Metacritic has posted a list of the top-reviewed films of the past decade, and according to their data, Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth is No. 1 with a score of 98. Just below it is the Romanian drama 4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days (97). It's a great list, packed with terrific movies like The Hurt Locker (No. 5), Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (No. 9), No Country for Old Men (No. 23) and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (No. 42). But with the exception of a few titles — Pixar (duh) and The Lord of the Rings …

It's a little early for an end-of-the-decade list, but Rotten Tomatoes has unveiled the 100 worst movies of the past ten years. As you might expect, it's quite a doozy. I'll spare you the 90 "best" movies on the list and jump ahead to the worst reviewed films of the decade, ranked in order beginning with the most offensive:
Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever (2002)
One Missed Call (2008)
Pinocchio (2002)
King's Ransom (2005)
National Lampoon's Gold Diggers (2004)
Suberbabies: Baby Geniuses 2 (2004)
Strange Wilderness (2008)
3 Strikes (2000)
Redline (2007)
Witless Protection (2008) …

When it comes to reviewing movies, I've always found that one of the most difficult things is not deciding whether a movie is good or bad, but rather, deciding whether a movie is bad or downright terrible. Make no mistake, there are many different levels of bad movies, but does anyone really care to get down to the nitty gritty of debating which ones are slightly better than others? It just seems like a colossal waste of energy. Fortunately, the good folks over at Rotten Tomatoes [1] have recently decided to sift through their vast review archives to give us the definitive Worst of the Worst list [2] for the past 10 years in film. I don't think there are too many surprises here, although the good news is that I think quite a few of these are movies that no one has seen. Maybe now they'll finally find the audience they deserve! …

Ya know, it doesn't feel like we're nearing the end of another decade, does it? There's no special millennium celebration or Y2K nonsense to get excited about, so it seems people are just sorta whatever about the past decade as if it wasn't very monumental or iconic, except for the part where our African-American president said something geeky about Star Trek. But I bet all the best end-of-the-decade content is yet to come, and it looks like Rotten Tomatoes is getting things started by presenting us with the worst (reviewed) films of the decade ... which they probably should've waited a couple more months to launch since, ya know, we still haven't seen Avatar (I'm kidding Jim - I'm kidding! Calm down!).
So what's the worst reviewed film of the decade? Well, that honor goes to --drum roll please -- 2002's Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever, starring the always enticing duo …

Steve Zahn is an enigma. The dude can act and if you.ve seen Rescue Dawn, you know that. Yet, he continues to take roles that expect nothing from him. If you.ve seen Strange Wilderness, then you know that as well. The flick would.ve satisfied me if all we had seen of it was the trailer (Come on. How hilarious was the laughing shark?). Watching the entire movie really ruined the experience. And it looks as though Steve plans to continue his foray into unchallenging work, as Variety reports that he has signed on to star as the father of the wimpy kid in Diary of a Wimpy Kid, an adaptation of the insanely popular youth fiction series. The movie follows a middle school aged social outcast through a single school year. As you can imagine, it doesn.t go entirely well. You can.t blame the guy …

Penguins attacking John Travolta and Robin Williams? A gorilla rocking Seth Green? Ladies and gentleman, the end of the world is near. These are signs of another disaster heading our way.
The first trailer for Walt Becker's new comedy "Old Dogs" has just debuted online, and to be honest, it kind of looks like a combination of "Wild Hogs" and Strange Wilderness." In other words, it looks quite aweful.
In the film, Williams and Travolta play two business partners whose lives take a sharp turn when Williams' character finds out he has 7-year-old twins. Oh and by the way, that guy's horrible with kids, so you can imagine what happens next...
The whole thing is a Walt Disney production, but judging by this trailer, it seems this is just the kind of flick you should not take your kids to, unless you want them to be sucked into the realm of unnecessary, …

Season two of the hit A&E original scripted drama series The Cleaner, starring Benjamin Bratt, Grace Park, Amy Price-Francis and Esteban Powell premieres Tuesday, June 23 at 10Pm Et/Pt. The second season will feature thirteen one-hour episodes.
In its first season, on a weekly three telecast cume basis, The Cleaner averaged 4.2 million total viewers, 2.4 million adults 25-54 and 2.2 million adults 18-49 in primetime, becoming the number one original drama in A&E history.
Inspired by the true story of real life "extreme interventionist" Warren Boyd, who also co-executive produces the series, The Cleaner stars Bratt as William Banks, a recovering addict who must balance his unwavering dedication to helping others get clean with an increasingly rocky personal life and the ghosts of his addictions. Banks and his teammates Akani Cuesta (Park) and Arnie Swenton (Powell) employ an unconventional - and often by any means necessary - approach to getting …

Following so closely on the heels of Tommy Boy that audiences had little time to breathe, Black Sheep tried to cram another heaping serving of the Chris Farley and David Spade buddy comedy down our throats. The forced second serving however, never comes close to the tasty comedy morsels of its predecessor. Instead we get stale jokes, ineffective slapstick and a plot that’s so horribly half-assed it’s surprising Black Sheep was made as a movie instead of a series of 25 vignettes. What really shears all the comedic fluff off the back of Black Sheep is the poorly used chemistry of Spade and Farley. The formula that produced the ever-classic lines “Shut-up, Richard”, “Niner? Did I hear a niner in there?” and “You’re brain has a thick candy shell” gets left by the wayside in favor of a far-too cohesive friendship based more out of mutual distraction than disgust. …

When you see a really horrible and worthless movie you're hesitant to ever watch it again; but when a friend insists that you missed the humor the first time through and to give it a second chance, you humor them. I did that with Strange Wilderness. That friend will never be allowed to recommend movies to me ever again. Ever. If you thought Date Movie was funny, then have we got the movie for you! If not, just pass by Strange Wilderness and never think twice.
Let's just be clear: there will be those who will defend this movie to the death calling it a "stoner film" and claiming it immune to all criticism. Not so. If Cheech & Chong set the bar all those years ago, Strange Wilderness passes safely underneath the bar with no worries about hitting its head. Being a …

If you thought the last few weeks were slow for new DVD releases, well, think again. There are only two major releases this week, one of which is the Frank Miller bomb The Spirit, and the other being the Oscar-nominated film The Reader (you know, the one that no one saw because they thought it looked boring). To make matters worse, the Blu-ray release of The Reader won't be out for another two weeks. Other discs hitting stores today include the low budget horror film Splinter, the HBO mini-series House of Saddam, and a series of 8 "lost" cult classics from Lionsgate. Yikes. Are there any other noteworthy releases that we missed this week? The Reader [1] (DVD) The Spirit [2] (DVD, Blu-ray [3]) Splinter [4] (DVD, Blu-ray [5]) North Star [6] Dark Matter [7] My Best Friend is a Vampire: The Lost Collection [8] Repossessed: The Lost Collection [9] Hiding Out: The Lost Collection [10] Slaughter High: The Lost Collection …

Occasionally we have a lot of DVD reviews waiting to post. When that happens, we post a DVD review roundup article. In this one we’ve got DVD reviews for The Tale of Despereaux, Arctic Tale and Strange Wilderness Blu-ray. The Tale of Despereaux Written by Jackson I’ve always enjoyed both family films and children’s literature. When done well, they work on multiple levels, thus appealing to adults as well as children. Disney and Pixar’s animated offerings are excellent examples of films designed to enthrall all audiences. So when I first saw the trailers for The Tale of Despereaux and thought the film seemed charming and potentially like a fun adventure yarn, I was intrigued. Alas, it was not to be. Despereaux, based on Kate Dicamillo’s Newbery-award-winning book, is the story of a mouse (voiced by Matthew …

DVD Links: DVD News | Release Dates | New Dvds | Reviews | RSS Feed Wow, what a horrible week for DVD and Blu-ray releases. Sure, some people will be interested in picking up The Reader after it was nominated for Best Picture, beating out poor ol' Dark Knight. I had it at #10 on my Best of 2008 list and I would love to own a Blu-ray version for reasons I will soon tell you, but I think that is a film I will remain in the minority and I would never recommend anyone pick it up on a blind buy. So what does that leave you with? The Spirit? I know a few people will probably be interested in the Blu-ray edition of Pride and Prejudice and the other half might think about buying 8 Mile on Blu-ray, but all-in-all there is really nothing to suggest here. So, while you can still read my mini-capsules …

One has to wonder why Paramount even bothered to circle back and release .Strange Wilderness. on Blu-ray as the film is a sloppy, low-budget mess with only a few random laughs in it.s corner. It certainly doesn.t scream to be viewed in high-def. A product of Adam Sandler.s Happy Madison productions with a few of Sandler.s second-string getting supporting roles (Peter Dante and Allen Covert), one has to guess that Sandler just finances these film.s out of a loyalty to friends that would be akin to taking a bullet . .Grandma.s Boy. and .The Benchwarmers. spring to mind. .Strange Wilderness. is a particularly lackluster example that seems almost completely derived from a random string of ineffective improv. …

Columbia Pictures has hit the jackpot! Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider and David Spade are negations to star in an untitled comedy to be directed by Happy Gilmore and You Don't Mess With the Zohan helmer Dennis Dugan. Sandler's Happy Madison is developing and is planning to shoot over the upcoming summer. Taking a cue from some of Judd Apatow's comedies that take place over one day of time, the story, written by Sandler and Strange Wilderness writer Fred Wolf, is about five best friends from high school who reunite 30 years later on a Fourth of July weekend. Hilarity ensues. As exciting as this is at first glance, let's not forget that Kevin James and Adam Sandler already teamed up once to bring us I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry. And the last big ensemble film that Adam Sandler starred in was The Longest Yard. Not …
