- Continuity: When David waits for Millie at the airport, his t-shirt has three small holes in the upper chest. During the next scene, at his girlfriend's apartment, the holes in his t-shirt have gone.
- Factual errors: When David is on top of Big Ben in London, the clock behind him shows 8:30, but it chimes as if it was the 8:00 or 9:00.
- Continuity: The main plot covers a few months, but various establishing shots of Manhattan show the Empire State Building lit for Independence Day and Christmas.
- Crew or equipment visible: In a wide, high-angle establishing shot of the Colosseum, a film crew, camera, and dolly tracks are clearly visible on a nearby street.
- Continuity: David rents room 256. In the next scene, when manager knocks on his door and complains about the noise, the room number is 203.
- Continuity: When Griffin crash lands the jeep in the war zone, a man is sitting next to him. When Griffin climbs out, the man is gone.
- Continuity: When David goes surfing, he picks out a gray surfboard with blue edges. When he jumps to Fiji, the board is yellow. When he has lunch on top of the Sphinx in Egypt, the surfboard is gray and blue.
- Factual errors: A London taxi has a number on the wing. Aside from a plate at the back, London taxis have no numbers on the outside.
- Errors in geography: When David and Griffin walk out of the Tokyo subway station, the sign is for the Ginza and Marunouchi Lines. When they get outside, they are in Shibuya. The Marunouchi Line does not go to Shibuya.
- Factual errors: In the closing credits, the song "Ahead By A Century," performed by The The Tragically Hip, is stated as written by Bobby Baker, Gord Downie, Johnny Fay, Paul Langlois, and Robert Sinclair. Robert Sinclair's credit should be Gord Sinclair.
- Continuity: After David teleports his father's body to the hospital, David's gray sweatshirt has blood on it. In the next shots, it's clean.
- Factual errors: During the safe-chasing scene, it is daytime in Giza, Abu Dhabi, Chechnya, Manhattan, and Ann Arbor. That's possible some times of the year, but at the same time, it's night in London, Rome, and at Griffin's lair in Egypt.
- Continuity: When Griffin returns to his lair after dropping a Paladin in the Atlantic, he splashes David's shirt with water. The drops disappear when he walks up from the subway in China, and reappear when he walks down the street.
- Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Millie makes a list of places to visit, she spells Prague "Prauge."
- Errors in geography: In one scene, David's father watches NY1, a cable channel available only in New York City. He lives in Michigan.
- Continuity: When David teleports to the school library while his father is trying to open the door, his father closes the bedroom door when he leaves. When David teleports back to the room, the bedroom door is open, and David closes it again.
- Continuity: In the opening scene of the movie, David wears a yellow backpack before he falls through the ice. Once he is underwater, and after he teleports to the school library, his backpack is gone.
- Anachronisms: When David slides his rent under the door, the $20 bill shows was produced in 2003-2004. If David hadn't seen his family in 8 years, the bill would not have existed.
- Continuity: When first driving the stolen Mercedes in Tokyo, Griffin's hair is dry. Half way through the drive his hair is wet, and upon arriving at the airport his hair is once again dry.
- Continuity: When Millie is talking to David about the places she'd like to visit, actress AnnaSophia Robb isn't wearing contact lenses, because you can notice her eyes are blue, and in the following scenes, they are dark brown.
- Anachronisms: At the start of the movie Roland gets out of a Dodge Charger that was not available until 2005.
- Revealing mistakes: The Mercedes that Griffin steals in Tokyo is left hand drive for countries that drive on the right side of the road e.g. USA. Japan drives on the left so the car should have been right hand drive.
- Plot holes: After David returns to his hometown, he meet Millie's Mom, Millie and Mark. They all act like they are really glad to see him as if he's just been out of town on a long trip or vacation. None act as if there was anything suspicious about his disappearance as in, the river episode, the calamity at the library or the jump from the house where he'd just been seen by his Father.
- Revealing mistakes: In the scene where David and Millie are stopped by police outside the Colosseum, the officer puts one hand out to stop David and one hand on his holster as if to draw his firearm, only there is no firearm in his holster to grab.
