Brittany Murphy, East Coast Snow And A Zombie Hand In Today's Twitter-Wood

21 December 2009 3:30 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

This has been a bad holiday season for untimely deaths around Hollywood, and none have been more unexpected than actress Brittany Murphy's on Sunday. Alyssa Milano, Peter Facinelli, Paris Hilton and virtually everyone else with a Twitter account associated with the entertainment industry has something to say about Murphy, and there's a rundown below.

The other big nationwide news of the past weekend has been the massive snowstorm pounding the East Coast. "Twilight" actress Christian Serratos was one of those who had her travel plans derailed by the frozen precipitation dump, on Washington, D.C. You can find those posts after jump along with Fred Durst's "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" clan name and Neil Gaiman's undead lawn ornament. It's in the Twitter-Wood report for December 21, 2009. (Editor's note: You'll see some crossover between this post and our earlier Brittany Murphy tweet round-up. That's okay... this is a »

Brittany Murphy Tweets From Peter Facinelli, Paris Hilton And Others In Another Twitter-Wood Early Edition

21 December 2009 2:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Earlier today, we brought you an early edition of Twitter-Wood packed chock-full of celebrity praise for James Cameron's sci-fi epic, "Avatar." It's a much more tragic set of circumstances that brings me back to you with another Twitter-Wood early edition.

"Clueless" star Brittany Murphy left us suddenly over the weekend, the victim of a heart attack at the too-young age of 32. The breaking news resulted in an outpouring of grief and sympathy for Murphy's family from around the celebrity Twittersphere. I'll let the people who knew her take it from here...

@ParisHilton So sad to hear about Brittany Murphy, such a tragedy. She was such a beautiful, funny and sweet girl. My heart goes out to her family.

-Paris Hilton, Actress ("The Hottie and the Nottie," "House of Wax")

@peterfacinelli Brittany Murphy... U were Bold, Brave, and Beautiful. Thank you 4 being the free spirit u were, and always »

John Mayer, Michael Moore, Simon Pegg And Others Respond To 'Avatar' In This Twitter-Wood Early Edition

21 December 2009 12:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

As you all know quite well, "Avatar" hit theaters this weekend. And while celebrities have ways of finagling themselves tickets to official premieres -- I think there's a secret handshake or something -- plenty of them turned out to "slum it" with their adoring public for public screenings of the movie. Or at least, that's what it seems like based on the influx of tweets on our Twitter-Wood feed.

The tone has been mostly positive on the Hollywood insider front. Hell, last week superstar actor Ben Stiller appeared on "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" with only one thing in mind: pimping James Cameron's sci-fi epic! "Oh, I'm here to talk about 'Avatar.'" he said. "I'm really excited about it, Conan. It's gonna be... it's just going to be an amazing movie." Hit the jump for more from celebs on "Avatar," fresh from the Twitter-Wood feed.

Tom Hanks, Jar Jar Binks And Another 'Twilight' Star Gets Naked In Today's Twitter-Wood

10 December 2009 3:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

For those of you following the Edi Gathegi and Christian Serratos' exchanges of the last few days, there are two more to share today, including a photo proving that the two "New Moon" performers were able to connect. Gathegi may have even had to naked for the occasion, according to Serratos' account, but don't worry. The picture is totally Sfw.

Tom Hanks stepped into the recording studio for "Toy Story 3," meanwhile, and the film's diligent director Lee Unkrich documented their their session. Check out all of those posts after the jump where you'll also find Simon Pegg's beef with Jar Jar Binks, Kat Dennings' new rule about seal impression etiquette and what Brian Lynch wants to see happen with the fourth "Twilight" movie. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for December 10, 2009.

The World Cup, Umaga And 'New Moon' Nevernudes In Today's Twitter-Wood

4 December 2009 3:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Professional wrestling fans of Twitter-Wood turned out today with good vibes for former WWE star Umaga, who was reported to be in serious condition for unknown reasons at a Houston hospital today. Jeff Katz was among them, and I echo his sentiments.

Elsewhere in the Twitterverse, Edgar Wright finished up his director's cut of "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World." Jason Reitman thanked him for not competing with "Up in the Air," and writer Bryan Lee O'Malley congratulated him on the milestone. Director Kyle Newman was somewhat less congratulatory, meanwhile, in his tweet-outs to England looking ahead to the World Cup. Check out those tweets after the jump along with Kat Dennings' nevernude diagnosis of the "New Moon" werewolves, an "Eclipse" actor hanging out with David Caruso and much more in the Twitter-Wood report for December 4, 2009.

Carriers gets early rental release...

3 December 2009 12:05 PM, PST | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

While the Paramount Vantage thriller Carriers (see our review here) is slated for a DVD release on December 29th (pre-order here), the rental market will get an early peek starting next Tuesday. The film has been scheduled for a December 8th rental release, with the title being made available through most DVD and/or digital rental channels. The film had a limited theatrical run back in September that bypassed most major markets (see story here) after being buzzed-about for over a year.

In a recent Fangoria Radio interview, filmmakers Alex Pastor and David Pastor revealed details on their next foray into genre fare, including their own take on the vampire/werewolf genre. Click here for details on that, and check out the latest trailer for Carriers below.

Starring Piper Perabo (Coyote Ugly), Chris Pine (Star Trek's new Kirk), Emily VanCamp (Everwood), Lou Taylor Pucci (Fanboys), and Christopher Meloni (Law »

Exclusive: Kevin Spacey Is Getting Into The Comic Books

13 November 2009 11:30 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

From Splash Page: Kevin Spacey announced in 2008 that he and his Trigger Street Productions partner Dana Brunetti were going to start looking at comics. The company, which has helped bring films like "Fanboys" and next year's Facebook-based "The Social Network" to life, opened up a section of TriggerStreet.com to aspiring comics creators looking for feedback—but hasn't yet announced plans to produce anything of their own.

Spacey and Brunetti predicted things to come in 2010, though, and commented on their relationship with Devil's Due Publishing.

"You can say that there are things that are brewing." Spacey told MTV News.

'Modern Warfare 2' Unleashed And The The 'New Moon' Premiere Dress Hunt In Today's Twitter-Wood

10 November 2009 3:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" might as well have been a major Hollywood premiere last night, because Twitter-Wood was all over it and Ice-t even posted a shot of himself with the pair of nightvision goggles packaged with the game's Prestige Edition bundle. Other first-day buyers included Fred Durst, Diablo Cody, and possibly Michael Ian Black, whose snark is sometime difficult to see through.

In a follow-up tweet, Korey Tinsel revealed that she still doesn't have a dress for the "New Moon" premiere, so she may be forced to do something desperate. All of those tweets and more are waiting after the jump, along with an impressive home security camera video taken by producer Dana Brunetti that shows what happens when you try to steal plants from his yard. Shia Labeouf, Ryan Gosling Join John Hillcoat’s ‘Wettest County’

3 November 2009 11:51 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

It must be hard for director John Hillcoat, whose film The Road has been pushed back and forth by The Weinstein Company more times than any other film since, well, The Weinsteins did it to Kyle Newman's Fanboys. And for shame, I say, as The Road is a great film and a wonderfully true adaptation of one of Cormac McCarthy's most iconic works. But even with the film's quality and almost certain critical praise, it still must be hard for a guy like Hillcoat to move forward on another project without a bit of doubt in his mind. That said, the folks at Atomic Popcorn are reporting some casting for one future project that I'd like to see Hillcoat take on. Titled The Wettest County in the World and based on a novel by Matt Bondurant, this family saga follows the Bondurants, bootlegging brothers runnin’ stills, runnin’ loads, and »

An 'Eclipse' Stunt Man And A 'Boondock Saints' Pumpkin In Today's Twitter-Wood

27 October 2009 3:45 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Someone with a steady hand sent Sean Patrick Flannery a picture of the best "Boondock Saints" jack-o-lantern you're likely to see this year, and he retweeted in kind. There really wasn't any other choice for the Twitter Pic of the Day.

In other tweets, David Slade continued his "Eclipse" posting with a shot of one of the film's stunt co-coordinators and Rachelle LeFevre admitted to crying during "Where the Wild Things Are." Check out those post below along an old clip of The Ultimate Warrior that Aziz Ansari dug up, how Eliza Dushku feels about Dungeons & Dragons, who wants her at his table to play and how Ice-t is faring at "Borderlands" on his Xbox 360. 'Astro Boy' And Comics: Tracking The Cast's Comic Book Connections

23 October 2009 12:29 PM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

"Astro Boy," based on the long-standing manga and anime series of the same name, rockets into theaters this weekend with an impressive voice cast that includes Freddie Highmore, Kristen Bell and Nicolas Cage.

While the animated adaptation already has connections to the comic book world by its very nature, several members of the film's cast have their own ties to the paneled page outside of "Astro Boy"—just check out the following five actors to see their connections to other comic book and superhero-related projects!

Kristen Bell: Already a fan-favorite within the geek community for her starring roles in "Veronica Mars" and "Fanboys," Kristen Bell sealed the deal even further with her multi-episode arc on "Heroes." Bell played Elle Bishop, the bratty supervillain with mastery over electricity.

While that remains the extent of her super-powered career to date (not counting "Astro Boy," that is) Bell's name has been mentioned »

Richard Kelly's Balloon Boy Movie, Frankie Muniz' Brush With Death And Jesus In Today's Twitter-Wood

16 October 2009 3:30 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

If the rights to the balloon boy story haven't been swiped up yet, they may have a buyer in "Donnie Darko" director Richard Kelly. He tweeted his questionable interest today even as balloon boy mania continued to occupy posts all over Twitter-Wood. Someone has apparently even started up a fake @BoyInTheBalloon account, which reached out to Andy Milonakis.

In other tweetage, Frankie Muniz survived a run-in with a dangerous snake, which may have come closer to killing him than any race he's driven in. Read all of those tweets along with pics from a couple "Twilight" actors, Fred Durst's anti-Facebook stance and the film that even Jesus apparently supports. They're all after the jump in the Twitter-Wood report for October 16, 2009.

Rashida Jones Sells Frenemy Of The State Comics

13 October 2009 10:56 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Apparently unbearably attractive girls are way into geeky stuff nowadays. How long have geeks been waiting for this? Decades, I imagine. Rosario Dawson writes comics and stars in Kevin Smith movies. Kristen Bell dresses up as slave Leia in Fanboys. Even so-hot-it-hurts Rashida Jones is in on the geek craze, having written a graphic novel entitled .Frenemy of the State.. Now Jones. comic looks like it will be hitting a silver screen near you very soon. According to Variety, Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment have acquired the rights to adapt the novel into a movie. Rashida will pen the script along with Will McCormack. .Frenemy of the State. follows an heiress who doubles as an undercover agent for the CIA. Imagine if Paris Hilton was an act this whole time and was actually and undercover agent looking to find the darkest secrets of Hollywood? That would be genius. Unfortunately for »

10 Most Underrated Young Actors

12 October 2009 7:54 PM, PDT | The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news »

Cinema is filled with multi-talented young actors who bring to life all types of characters. Sometimes, a role is given to the wrong guy - just because he has the looks (pin-up pretty, looks awesome wearing trunks) and the connection (a powerful talent agent at his side). But when the role is given to the right guy - moviegoers get to witness something unique, memorable and powerful, even magical. Anyway, even the 'right guy' needs an agent, of course...

- - -

- - - Underrated versus Overrated: If you've watched Jumper, then you'll notice the difference between Jamie Bell and Hayden Christensen - Bell has undeniable screen presence, I can't say the same with Hayden. It could have been different if Tom Sturridge was retained to play Hayden's part. Anyway, who am I to argue? Christensen has more box office appeal than the relatively unknown Sturridge, but acting-wise?

Kristen Bell Cast as Christina Aguilera's Rival in 'Burlesque'

Kristen Bell will sing and dance to get her spotlight back in "Burlesque". The latest news related to the actress best known for her title role in TV series "Veronica Mars" unraveled that she has signed on to join the cast of the musical drama for Screen Gems, and is set to star as the rival of Christina Aguilera's character.

The 29-year-old will portray a character named Nikki, who is described to be a loose-cannon lead dancer and main attraction at a neo-burlesque club who spirals out of control when Aguilera's small town girl character suddenly gets the spotlight. She is expected to join the production when principal photography begins November 9.

Directed by Steve Antin, "Burlesque" centers on the journey of an ambitious small-town girl with a big-town voice. She finds love and success in a Los Angeles neo-burlesque club, reminiscent of the nightclub in Bob Fosse's "Cabaret". Cher plays the nightclub owner, »
