  • Anachronisms: In the first scene in the comic book store, Hutch is seen with a Mountain Dew can that has the release-era (2008/9) logo, not the period correct logo.

  • Continuity: The Aurabesh lettering and the rest of the van's graphics on the side door are completely devoid of color while they're at the Texas coffee shop; the rest of the time the graphics and lettering have color.

  • Revealing mistakes: Windows, Zoe, and Hutch play blackjack on a casino table laid out for three-card poker.

  • Anachronisms: In the comic book store an issue of B.P.R.D. is shown in a number of shots. This comic book came out far later than 1997.

  • Anachronisms: In the scene where Hutch, Windows, and Eric are in Linus' bedroom trying to convince him to steal the movie, Linus is enjoying candy from a Glow-In-The-Dark Emperor Palpatine Pez dispenser. This Pez dispenser was released in 2005, 7 years after the year in which the movie is set. In addition, there are several other Pez dispensers behind Eric which were also released after 1998 (including a limited edition C3PO Giant Pez dispenser).

  • Factual errors: When the gang watches the opening crawl of the "rough cut" of Episode I, it is titled "The Phantom Menace", (as in the finished, 1999 release) when in fact the rough cut was titled "The Beginning".

  • Continuity: When the tire of the van blew up it was the front right tire. In the next scene with the van veering to the right and crashing, you can see that the front right tire didn't blow up.

  • Revealing mistakes: The diner scene takes place at night as seen clearly through the windows and when they leave. Windows states they have to meet Rogue Leader at the Java the Hut coffee shop at Wednesday 3pm sharp. Eric then says they have 26 hours to get to Texas, placing the conversation at 1pm during the day - not at night.

  • Anachronisms: Quite a lot of the merchandise displayed in the movie was not released in 1998. Most noticeably the Master Replica Force FX Sabers (2005) throughout the movie (held by the Darth Vader statue, used by fans in the theatre), and the 12" Taun Taun in the 2002 "Saga" collection packaging in Eric's bedroom.

  • Revealing mistakes: The shot of the projector has been reversed: projectors feed downward.

  • Continuity: None of the fans would have the Force FX Lightsabers, which didn't come out until the release of Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002). Also, Hutch's lightsaber is Anakin Skywalker's, which didn't come out till Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005).

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): While in the future birthplace of James T. Kirk, the Trekker says that "Captain Picard is not gay, he's British." The actor who plays Captain Picard is British, but the character is French.

  • Errors in geography: When the group arrives at the "Smith Ranch Road" exit, they are taking the exit from Northbound 101 and proceed to turn left onto Lucas Valley Road (Westbound) towards "The Lucas Ranch", however in the next few shots, they are seen passing a rock located on their left. That rock is a prominent marker on Lucas Valley Road and would have to be on their right if they were headed westbound towards the ranch.

  • Anachronisms: In the scene when the Fanboys (and Fangirl) are being questioned in the conference room, the giant wall sized picture of Darth Vader behind them is actually the Darth Vader from Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, when Annekin first becomes Vader, which wasn't released until 2005.

  • Anachronisms: Many of the slot machines seen inside the casino (i.e. Pompeii, Mr. Cashman) were not around until several years after 1998. Also, the table at which the actors are playing "blackjack" clearly says Three Card Poker - a completely different game.

  • Plot holes: While in Vegas, Windows says that he is 24 years old. Earlier, during the opening party, the friends state that it's been 3 years since they graduated high school. That would have made him 21 years old at graduation.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: When everyone is being chased through Skywalker Ranch and jump down a garbage chute, Hutch dives in head first but when he exits he comes out feet first. This was regarded as an error but it is likely the director purposefully did this to spoof Star Wars (1977), in which Han jumps in head first and comes out feet first.

  • Errors in geography: When they plan to leave, they say that taking "Highway 80" is the fastest route. There is no highway 80 heading west from Ohio to Texas. There only Interstate 80, which is not even close to going through Texas. So, when they arrive in Iowa and argue about taking the longer route they actually went the way they discussed when they agreed to go, by driving Interstate 80.

  • Errors in geography: When Hutch 'detours' into Iowa, he passes under a highway sign for Interstate 40 (visible through the windshield). I-40 runs roughly 900 miles further south than the Ohio-Iowa corridor.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Hutch drives the van into the bronze statue of Captain Kirk and Khan in Iowa, the statue is broken into several pieces revealing a white center at the broken edges. However, at the scene where Admiral Seasholtz screams out just before kissing the broken head of Khan, you can see that all the broken edges are bronze like the rest of the statue.
