Norm Crosby, a comedian known as the “Master of Malaprop,” has died. The actor-writer, also known for appearing in a number of film titles, including Grown Ups 2, Cougar Club and Alright Already, was 93.
Crosby died of heart failure at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, The Hollywood Reporter learned.
The Master of Malaprop was born on September 15, 1927 in Boston. He kicked off his career in the 1950s on the standup scene. Coming up as a comedian, Crosby soon made malaprop, the intentional mistaken use of a similar sounding word for comedy, as his signature move.
From his various appearances on the stand-up scene, Crosby expanded the reach of his career, landing spots on notable talk shows throughout the 60s.
He first came on to the television scene by flaunting his comedy style on The Garry Moore Show, where he would make multiple appearances. Throughout the decade,...

In hindsight, hints to the identity of The Masked Singer‘s Squiggly Monster — who was booted from the reality singing competition Wednesday — were everywhere you looked.
The reference to being a “patchwork of personas,” including “the father-figure” (hello, Full House‘s Danny Tanner!) and “the scoundrel” (hello, Saget’s often blue stand-up comedy leanngs!). The penguins, a reference to 2007’s Farce of the Penguins, a March of the Penguins spoof he directed. And above all, the pratfalls, banana-peel slips and footballs to the crotch that seemed to show up whenever Squiggly Monster’s clue package rolled — all a nod to...

From indie classics like Do the Right Thing to blockbuster mega hits such as Infinity War, Samuel L. Jackson has cemented himself as one of the most recognizable actors of modern American cinema. But for every great movie he’s been in, he’s also played a part in some truly atrocious, yet nonetheless entertaining titles. And so on that note, here are his best and worst films, according to IMDb’s rating system.
Let’s start with the worst and work our way to the top from there. First up we got a movie called Def by Temptation. Released in 1990 and directed by a guy named James Bond III, it stars Jackson alongside Kadeem Hardison and Bill Nunn, both of whom have since become household names in their own right. The story of an “evil succubus” preying on young black men in New York, it’s a hodgepodge of...

Showtime is developing Slamdance Film Festival winner Punching the Clown for the small screen. The comedy from writer-director Gregori Viens had focused on comic singer-songwriter Henry Phillips, whose dumb-luck rise to Hollywood fame and fortune quickly goes bust. In the TV iteration, Phillips will be living with his struggling-actor brother and dealing with various romantic entanglements. Photos: The Hollywood Reporter Celebrates 'The Mindy Project' Viens, Phillips and Arrested Development's Chuck Martin will serve as writers and executive producers on the project, with comedian Sarah Silverman and David Permut (Face/Off, Farce of the Penguins) attached as EPs.

An unnamed source -- I know people, motherfuckers -- has said that Warner Brothers and Weed Road Pictures is planning on adapting the British nature documentary "Meerkat Manor" to the big screen under the production helmage of my new archnemesis, Akiva Goldsman.
However, they're planning on turning it into an animated feature. The logline: "A Pixar version of West Side Story meets The Sopranos."
So apparently, it's going to be four hours long, with awesome stuff happening the first hour, nothing of real note for the last three, and the finale is going to piss people off. Oh, and a meerkat's gonna get poisoned. And then, there's gonna be lots of meerkats dancing to the sultry tones of Ke$ha.
"Meerkat Manor" is basically footage of meerkats with overdubbing by actors. So this sounds like it's going to be one giant version of that Farce of the Penguins piece of...
