Many television viewers — and pop culture critics — are wondering just what's up with Fox's Fringe. Watchers of the show were caught unaware this past week, not realizing that the network was airing a new episode of the skein until they read about it the next day in various news outlets. Fringe simply wasn't in the listings. People's DVRs didn't pick up the show, because Fox was listed as running Game 7 of the World Series. People believed that the show would be absent one more week.
All of this is raising serious questions about how seriously Fox is treating the show, or indeed, if they're trying to kill it. The Thursday night time slot was their first error in judgment, but lapses in playing to the viewer base by neglecting to promote episodes and air times is something else entirely.
The impression left is that Fox used first-run programming as a backup to a sporting event. »

Smallville Fan Columnist, Trish Neale is here again with some news. If you're interested in becoming a fan columnist, click here.
She might as well be Supergirl! And yes: I realize Kara would object to that statement.
But even without superpowers, Smallville's Lois Lane (Erica Durance) combines the talents of Nancy Drew, Sarah Connor and Katie Couric all in the body of Heidi Klum. Guys dream of her--a girl who drinks beer, calls out football plays in her sleep, attends monster truck rallies and still drops jaws in that little black dress. So what is the problem? Lois seems to have forgotten just how great she is herself. Let me quote: »

Rediscovering Roberts
Eric Roberts never really left, but 2009 audiences are learning (or relearning) the charms of the actor Mickey Rourke has called the best he ever worked with.
By Terry Keefe
(This article is currently appearing in this month's Venice Magazine.)
“Eric Roberts is the [expletive deleted] Man,” proclaimed Mickey Rourke at this past year’s Independent Spirit Awards, while accepting his trophy for Best Male Lead, at the very beginning of a speech which then saw him singling out Roberts, his one-time co-star in 1984’s The Pope of Greenwich Village, as someone who was worthy of a comeback like Rourke had with The Wrestler. From the audience, Roberts himself watched his friend at the podium with what looked to be a combination of embarrassment at being mentioned and some pleasure at the same, finally throwing it back at Rourke by shouting good-naturedly, “Accept your award!” For »

Is the Twitter fad over? It is for Miley Cyrus who turned off the Twitter switch earlier this month because her boyfriend demanded it. It also seems true for another teen celeb: Emma Roberts.
The Nancy Drew and Hotel For Dogs star was on her account last week threatening to stop using the social network due to repeated hack attempts. “i will be deleting my twitter today because Everyday someone tries to hack on reset my password. Sorry to everyone who doesnt do that,” the 18-year-old said on her account. Later, feeling the fury from her followers, she replied the following:
“Okay everyone making me feel really guilty so I’m not gonna delete my twitter … for now. But please whoever it is Stop trying to get on!”
Now it seems her account is terminated. Sorry for to those sad 12-year-old boys.

Ready to have some fun and a headache? If it actually was opposite day, this news story would read as follows: Oren Aviv, who is not the studio production president at Disney, is terrible at coming up with fun story ideas for Disney to exploit. He didn't conceptualize National Treasure, a film I totally couldn't stand, and definitely did not see in theaters upwards of 4 times. The basic conceptual idea for Opposite Day -- a movie not about a day wherein someone has to do the opposite of their normal daily routine -- hasn't been popular in Hollywood's recent past, and definitely not in movies like Sliding Doors and The Family Man. Disney will not employ Nancy Drew writer Tiffany Paulsen for the Opposite Day project. Paulsen is not also attached to a project that will not be a reboot of the Adventures in Babysitting franchise. That film will definitely not be called Further Adventures in Babysitting »

Wasn't that the subject of a Spongebob episode? Should say so to Disney production president Oren Aviv who claims his idea to be an original one... The studio is developing a pitch called Opposite Day with a screenplay commissioned from Nancy Drew scribe Tiffany Paulsen who's also contracted by the Mouse to pen Further Adventures In Babysitting. 'Cause the original is an 80s classic so it Has to be desecrated. Though if they get Vincent D'Onofrio back as Thor, I'll forgive that... »

Bauer-Griffin Some roles hit closer to home than others, and for Christian Slater portraying a detective haunted by the disappearance of his daughter on the new show The Forgotten is one of them.
“I certainly know that I can identify with loving your family and loving your kids and thinking they’re the most important things in your life,” says the 40-year-old dad-of-two. “Losing one of them is just not something you want to give a lot of thought to, but I do face it on the show.”

It all started with a little Cam Jansen and Encyclopedia Brown. I chose my own adventure all the way to Nancy Drew, and then things changed. Onto the scene burst the likes of Paula Danziger, R.L. Stine, Lois Duncan, Christopher Pike, and L.J. Smith. I read fast, and I read a lot. When bored, I used to dream of making all my beloved teen books into movies, wondering who would play The Final Friends, and just what Stefan Salvatore would've looked like.
Fast-forward a decade and change, and bit by bit things are coming true. We've gotten a sweetly chaste Nancy Drew, CW's show that vaguely resembles Smith's The Vampire Diaries has capitalized on Twilight mania, and Diablo Cody is taking a stab at Sweet Valley High. So what's left?
A lot, and I wouldn't be surprised if we hear about more '80s fare coming back to life soon. »

When I was a kid, I wished for a sequel to Barry Levinson's not-so-loved yet respectable-for-its-groundbreaking-effects film Young Sherlock Holmes. I was simply all about young detectives at the time. I wasn't about to read any of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's actual books, but I loved Encyclopedia Brown and the Three Investigators (the kids who were friends with Hitchock) and was curious about Nancy Drew (I never dared read her stories because they were for girls). Anyway, that bit of backstory is hardly important to the news that Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes </stro ... »

Rosanna Arquette will also appear, as well as Empire favourite Sean Pertwee (well, somebody has to love Equilibrium) and Ben Miller. As one of the new movers and shakers of the British film world, »

The Bearded One, a.k.a. Bo, knows funny. Zach Galifianakis is nearing a deal to star in “It’s Kind of a Funny Story,” the next film from “Half-Nelson” writer-directors Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden. If he signs, “Story” would be the fourth film to feature Galifianakis coming out in the next few years, not counting his small role in Jason Reitman’s much talked about “Up in the Air.” He has already started filming Todd Phillips’ “Due Date” and is scheduled to shoot both Jay Roach’s “Dinner with Schmucks” and the sequel “Hangover 2″ (with Phillips again) next year. If you want to know more about Galifianakis’ newest project, sit yourself down between two ferns and hit the jump.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Story” is about a teenage boy who is sent to a mental institution after struggling with depression. There, he is put in the adult »

Zach Galifianakis is in contract discussions to star in the comedy-drama It's Kind of a Funny Story. If he inks the deal he'll be the first member of the cast.
The Hangover star would play a patient in a mental institution. While Galifianakis' stock has shot up into the stratosphere since he appeared in the highest-grossing comedy of all time, he wouldn't be playing the movie's central character. That part will go to a younger star, a teenage boy who is accidentally admitted to the adult ward of the institution after being diagnosed with depression.
The movie will be directed by Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden (Half Nelson) from their script which was adapted from the book written by Ned Vizzini.
Emma Roberts (Nancy Drew) is also in talks to star as a teenage girl that befriends the main character. Filming is scheduled to start before the end of the year. »

We've spent the better (hotter?) portion of the summer reviving our fascination with the concept of the Ultimate Hotties of the Year -- in subcategories like Comedy, Action/Thriller, Crime-Fighting, Geek, and Vampires (apparently they're popular). In 2007, readers voted Angelina Jolie and Wentworth Miller as prom king and queen; this year, Robert Pattinson led your Top 25. And since favoritism can be limiting, here are the 25 hotties you can't believe we missed. Now that '09's long, strange trip is over, some EW staffers decided -- in the spirit of "why the heck not?" -- to create our own lists of Things That Are Hot. Slezak and Mandi followed the rules and chose broadly but from within the parameters of the past year, while Dalton and Josh went the esoteric route of just naming random people and/or characters they've at one point found intriguing. Hey, whatever. They go around the »

Ted Kennedy's passing this morning certainly didn't leave the Twitter-Wood feed untouched. I made my best attempt to summarize the spectrum of reactions today some retweets from Elizabeth Banks and Kevin Nealon.
It was also a massive photo-posting day for some reason. And when it came down to choosing between Shaquille O'Neal in a Speedo and Arnold Schwarzenegger's "Conan" sword, which in now housed at his California office, the hairs of choice were not easily split. Click on down there, and you'll find both of them, along with Warwick Davis' commentary on leaving his role as Filius Flitwick to replace Verne Troyer as Griphook the Goblin in "Harry Potter in the Deathly Hallows." Also, the lovely Emma Roberts talks bikinis. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for August 26, 2009.

Following yesterday's Entertainment Tonight trailer for the trailer, the full trailer for The Lovely Bones, Peter Jackson's adaptation of Alice Sebold's bestselling novel, is now available for your perusal at Apple. There are shades of What Dreams May Come and Paperhouse in the visualisation of Susie Salmon's own personal Heaven, and the emphasis on standard amateur sleuthing might ring alarm bells for those who've read the novel and were expecting Jackson to come up with Heavenly Creatures Part 2. But the film is a potentially tough sell, given that its source begins with the rape, murder and dismemberment of a teenage girl. If the trailer turns out to be slightly disingenuous, you can hardly blame the marketing people. This film will not be Nancy Drew in the Afterlife, we promise. And there's no disguising the awesomeness of the cast: Rachel Weisz, Stanley Tucci, Susan Sarandon, Rose McIver, Atonement's Saoirse Ronan, »
