The Honourable Woman reached its dramatic climax tonight (August 21) on BBC Two - but were you satisfied with the denouement of Nessa Stein's story?
How did the series as a whole measure up compared to writer Hugo Blick's previous work - the sublime The Shadow Line or the tragi-comic Sensitive Skin?
Blick's sociopolitical thriller - and Maggie Gyllenhaal's central performance - has received a warm reception from most critics, with Time calling it "absorbing" with a "deliberate pace and cool tone".
The Honourable Woman won't return for second series, says Hugo Blick
Others were more reserved though - The Telegraph noted that its twisty-turny style made The Honourable Woman feel "more like a game of chess than a drama".
Digital Spy wants your thoughts on The Honourable Woman - did it live up to the hype?...

Hugo Blick returns to television tonight with BBC Two's The Honourable Woman - a new eight-part thriller starring Maggie Gyllenhaal as Nessa Stein, the daughter of an arms dealer caught up in an international political crisis.
In his 25-plus years in the business, Blick has led a long, varied and deeply interesting career - penning some of British television's best and most ground-breaking comedies and dramas and even branching out into acting.
Digital Spy presents Blick's career highlights - from a surprising debut to his noirish masterpiece.
Batman (1989)
Even ardent fans of Blick's work might be surprised to learn that he made his screen debut not as a writer but an actor, portraying the younger version of Jack Nicholson's Napier - alias the Joker - in Tim Burton's gothic big-screen take on the Dark Knight.

Above: just in time for the 700th issue of Cahiers du Cinéma, Stéphane Delorme, the current editor in chief, chats with Nicholas Elliott for Bomb Magazine:
"Delorme: ...That’s why we write manifestos, because this cinema we would like to see does not exist. So we’re not just saying we want to see it, we’re saying we need it. I wonder what sadistic urge has driven so many filmmakers to bask in either an ample, dark vision of existence or, more often, pathetic little stories that wind up with pathetic little fights. There’s a real indulgence in defeat and cowardice and in dealing with exclusively negative feelings. I wrote about lyricism to ask filmmakers to show us they believe in something, that there’s some hope. If people love other people, if they love actors or places, why don’t they film what they love? Another possible life?...

Best known for her role as Samantha Jones in HBO's "Sex and the City," Kim Cattrall will be returning to television. Cattrall is set to star and executive produce a Canadian adaptation of BBC's 2005 dark mid-life crisis comedy "Sensitive Skin," Deadline reports.
"Sensitive Skin," which aired for two seasons in the UK, follows the life of 61-year-old Davina Jackson (originally played by Joanna Lumley of "Absolutely Fabulous") and her slightly dysfunctional family, including a 30-year-old son stuck in adolesence and her sister and brother-in-law, whom she and her husband maintain a steady keeping-up-with-the-Joneses rivalry.
Landing the role of Davina marks a career win for Cattrall as well: she's been working on making a "Sensitive Skin" adaptation for four years, Deadline reported. Cattrall has had an interest in portraying real women in the later stages of their life since the last episode of "Sex and the City" aired in 2004.

She bared her age-defiant bod for six seasons on HBO's "Sex and the City" so it's no surprise that Kim Cattrall has been trying for the last four years to get a North American version of the British TV series "Sensitive Skin" made, though the show may not be what you expect.
Deadline Hollywood reports that Cattrall's long wait has paid off with The Movie Network and Movie Central joining forces for the reboot, hiring Canadian treasure Don McKellar (Child Star, "Slings & Arrows", Blindness) to direct the six episodes that have been ordered.
Cattrall will play the central role of a woman going through a mid-life crisis, originated by Joanna Lumley on the show that ran from 2005-2007, and given that the Golden Globe winner is in her mid-50s, the various issues her character has to confront will be given an added degree of believability.

Canadian channels Movie Central and The Movie Network have ordered a six episode season of a North American version of British comedy Sensitive Skin. I don't usually follow Canadian TV developments, but this remake will star Sex and the City alum Kim Cattrall (who previously tried to sell the series to HBO) which makes it likely it'll travel south and air in the states. Kim Cattrall is returning to series TV for the first time since "Sex and the City" ended in 2004. Cattrall will star in and executive produce an adaptation of the 2005 British comedy series "Sensitive Skin," about a woman's mid-life crisis.
The six-episode series will premiere on Canada's The Movie Network and will also be executive produced by the "Slings & Arrow" team of writer Bob Martin and director Don McKellar, according to Deadline.
Cattrall won a Golden Globe and was nominated for five Emmys for her role as Samantha Jones in HBO's "Sex and the City," and reprised the role in two feature films. Lately she's been concentrating on stage work, but also appeared in the British miniseries "Any Human Heart" and lent her voice to the Canadian animated series "Producing Parker."
The original British version of "Sensitive Skin" starred Joanna Lumley, whose role as Patsy on "Absolutely Fabulous" was something of a precursor to Samantha.
