Too brief to be truly effective
Eugene Hicks has what every woman wants. He is extremely intelligent and very well paid. He drives a big car and has never had a sexual partner. Some might say he is arrogant but Eugene knows what he has and what gifts his perfect self can give to the world.
I'm not entirely sure what the point of the film was although I suspect that it can be best taken as a statement on the importance of controlling medical practices to guard against the ego rather than allowing it to "play god". However this point is not that well made and is simply plunked down after we have established that Eugene is an arrogant, rich t*sser. Up until the end I thought it was a comedy that was going to play Eugene for laughs and the sudden change of direction with so little time left meant that it had no time to do much with it. Mylan isn't sure either, so he has nothing but the arrogance to his character and his singing didn't help anything either (more a fault of the material than of him). Hurley's direction and use of the locations are good but I would have preferred him to do a bit more with his idea rather than delivering something interesting but leaving it half-cooked.
Overall, an interesting subject but not one that is explored well here. Still distracting enough to watch but not as effective as I would have liked it to be.
