So Long, and Thanks for the Mammeries - Bitchslap Trailer

23 July 2008 1:46 PM, PDT | From TwitchFilm.net | See recent Twitch news

Beating the ambitions of Quentin Tarantino to the punch by what looks to be an ultra-polished version of Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! (complete with crazy camera angles, remote desert ranches, and busty gals kicking mighty man-butt) comes the not-nearly-as-great-titled, Bitch Slap.  Here is hoping that director Rick Jacobson is not limited to just injecting Michael Bay-isms and modern speed-ramp cinematography into the mix, which this trailer implies.

Movies Online (the source of this trailer) also has a review up. They indicate there is a little bit of the old Memento reverse-narrative thing going on in there as well as a sampler of pop philosophy which (hopefully) tip the hand that ambitions go beyond simply remaking the film (although there are many recognizable Pussycat shots in the trailer).  With the success of exploitation mish-mashes Grindhouse and Doomsday this stylishly shot updating of the Faster Pussycat Kill! Kill! ‘big-tits-and-sexy-violence’ grrrrl-power cult

Trailers From Hell

21 July 2008 9:24 AM, PDT | From TwitchFilm.net | See recent Twitch news

I’m not a great fan of microcinema; however, I’m not above spending an insomniatic hour or two trolling YouTube or fingerpopping to scopitones at Bedazzled TV, or even occasionally dipping into the Twitch Video Player.  I certainly enjoy the Twitch Trailer Park for each year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

And speaking of trailer parks, Trailers From Hell—the brainchild of film director Joe Dante, new media entrepreneur Jonas Hudson, graphic artist Charlie Largent and producer Elizabeth Stanley, born out of their mutual love of classic films of all types, but particularly horror and exploitation films—has been rocking my late night world of late.  With an impressive list of “Grindhouse Gurus” to guide the way, Trailers From Hell offers up vintage trailers with contemporary commentary.  Where else will you find Eli Roth enthusing over Alfred Hitchcock’s trailer for The Birds?  Or Jack Hill offering directorial insight into Foxy Brown?

Now DiCaprio is Rumored for Tarantino's 'Bastards'

16 July 2008 4:19 AM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Apparently the rumors of Brad Pitt's involvements in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards are very, very real as the director met with Pitt in France no Tuesday and five studios to be approached by Tarantino and Harvey Weinstien to handle offshore territories for the film are meeting with the expectation Tarantino will land Pitt for the role of Aldo Raine, the film's lead. Another new name has been added to the mix that is sure to sweeten the deal even more in the form of Leonardo DiCaprio, also up for a lead role named Hans Landa. The news is certainly riling up the media as this will be Tarantino's first film since Grindhouse flopped, despite glowing reviews, back in early 2007. Inglorious Bastards follows a band of U.S. soldiers facing death by firing squad for their misdeeds who are given a chance to redeem themselves by heading into the

Script for Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards Surfaces!

10 July 2008 1:13 PM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

Will the news on Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards ever cease? Right after our last update on the production earlier this week, news hit that Brad Pitt is being eyed for the lead and that Taratino is, in fact, keeping Bastards at The Weinstein Company (despite hope that he wouldn't considering their missteps with Grindhouse). Today is probably the best update of all, however, because Latino Review and Vulture scored copies of the script! Tarantino's Dirty Dozen-inspired WWII epic will follow eight Jewish soldiers sent behind enemy lines who are lead by Lt. Aldo Raine (the possible role for Pitt). To give you a sense of Tarantino's twisted tale, Raine tells his men: "Every man under my command, owes me, one hundred Nazi scalps. And I want my scalps. And all y’all will git me, one hundred Nazi scalps, taken from the heads of one hundred Nazi's or you

McGowan Dispels Rodriguez Split Reports

2 July 2008 11:56 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Latest: Actress Rose McGowan has blasted reports she has been dropped from her director fiance Robert Rodriguez's forthcoming movie Barbarella, amid rumours of a split.

The couple, who met on the set of 2007's double bill Grindhouse, was alleged to have parted ways following a row over financial difficulties for the remake of the 1968 cult classic, in which McGowan would take the lead role.

She was also due to star in two of Rodriguez's other projects - Red Sonja and Woman in Chains! - when reports of the break-up emerged.

But the actress' representative has denied the pair has ended their working relationship, telling People.com, "The production of all three films is moving forward with Rose to star."

And a source close to McGowan insists the 34-year-old beauty is still with the filmmaker: "She and Robert are fine."

McGowan And Rodriguez Split?

2 July 2008 5:14 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Rose McGowan has reportedly split with fiance Robert Rodriguez - because of financial difficulties on forthcoming film Barbarella.

The Grindhouse star was set to take the lead in a remake of the 1968 cult classic, with Rodriguez directing the movie.

But the couple have now allegedly split following disagreements over the film's money problems.

McGowan apparently wasn't a big enough box office draw for the $70 million (GBP35 million) remake, after her 2007 film Grindhouse only grossed $25.4 million (GBP12.7 million).

A source tells the New York Post's gossip column PageSix, "Too bad Grindhouse didn't gross $100 million (GBP50 million). Then, maybe, Barbarella would have gotten the green light.

"Instead, the moguls were saying, 'We need a bigger star, a bigger name.'"

The project was reportedly set to be axed by Universal Studios in October, because of Rodriguez's decision to cast girlfriend McGowan in the lead role.

The screen beauty fell for the filmmaker on the set of Planet Terror, one half of the double bill Grindhouse, and the couple went public with their relationship in May that year - shortly after Rodriguez filed for divorce from his wife of 16 years, Elizabeth Avellan.

McGowan + Rodriguez To Tackle Red Sonja

27 June 2008 12:13 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Grindhouse star Rose McGowan and her director boyfriend are set to revive Brigitte Nielsen's Red Sonja in a new movie.

The actress and Robert Rodriguez have confirmed they're planning a major remake of the 1985 big screen adaptation of the comic book series, in which Nielsen played a bikini-clad, sword-wielding barbarian vixen.

And even McGowan, who played a one-legged zombie killer in Rodriguez's Planet Terror Grindhouse film, admits she's surprised the Red Sonja role is hers.

The script was sent to her and she admits she had no idea why she had been selected to play the new Sonja.

She tells USA Today newspaper, "I thought it was funny. I do have a body made for sitting on a veranda with mint juleps and a parasol. I don't know why I always have to save the planet."

But Rodriguez insists his partner is perfect for the role: "Rose is a pistol. She's whip-smart, has attitude to burn, is sexy, extremely strong, yet has a vulnerable side that would surprise her closest friends. That description also fits Red Sonja."

'Piranha' Remake to Deliver Boobs, Blood and Gore!

6 June 2008 12:12 AM, PDT | From bloody-disgusting.com | See recent Bloody-Disgusting.com news

While French director Alex Aja puts the finishing touches on his remake of Mirrors for 20th Century Fox, he's also prepping a remake of Piranha for Dimension Films. Planned to be shot in 3-D, there is a lot of speculation about what direction Aja will take his latest horror opus. Bloody-Disgusting caught up with makeup effects designer Greg Nicotero (Grindhouse, Hostel II) today and he offered a few short words about the Piranha remake, Piranha 3-D, which is expected to go into production shortly. The project is the second consecutive project Nicotero has done with director Alex Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) after Mirrors, which hits screens August 15th.

McGowan Exercised With Broken Foot

23 May 2008 9:10 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Rose McGowan is so dedicated to her regular exercise regime, she continued to workout even when she'd broken her foot.

The Grindhouse star was running late for a workout with her trainer last month when she picked up the injury - but she felt so bad for keeping her instructor waiting, she decided to endure the pain while she exercised instead of making her way to a hospital emergency room.

She tells People.com, "I thought I'd kept my trainer waiting too long downstairs, so I was running and my foot just hit the edge of the doorway. It just happens to be (made of) stone and that didn't work out well!

"But I did not miss my workout. I stuck ice on it, did my upper body, and then went to the hospital."

And McGowan admits she was in tears by the time she did see a doctor - but it was not because of the pain from her broken foot.

Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival in France on Thursday, McGowan - who was wearing a Dolce + Gabbana dress with one Sergio Rossi heel - recalls: "The doctor thought I was crying because I was in pain but I told him it was because I have to go to Cannes and I refuse to wear flats (flat shoes).

"Tonight I put padding beneath the case and now it's the same height as the heel. Genius!"

McGowan Hoping For A Strike Break So She Can Nurse Sick Dog

11 May 2008 7:03 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Rose McGowan is quietly praying for a summer actor's strike - so she can spend time at home with her sick dog.

The Grindhouse star recently learned her 11-year-old terrier, Fester, has a brain tumour and now all she wants to do is spend time with her beloved pooch.

She tells PlanetGossip.Eonline.com, "Five weeks ago he was jumping in the air."

Ongoing talks between studio bosses and acting union officials are trying to resolve issues before a strike is necessary, but McGowan really wouldn't mind a long summer break.

She adds, "I'll get to spend more time with Fester."

A possible strike will also give the actress the chance to rest up after smashing her leg.

Hobbling McGowan has been told she has to wear a leg brace for the next six weeks.

She reveals, "I had a fight with a wall, and the wall won. It sucks."
