'Targets': An Introduction by Peter Bogdanovich (2003)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
Very good short documentary was originally released as a special feature on the DVD release of TARGETS. The film runs just over fourteen-minutes and features Bogdanovich talking about his early career as a writing, how he got to meet Roger Corman and then gets into the production of this film. It's well-known that Corman asked him to use 20-minutes worth of footage from THE TERROR, film 20-minutes worth of new footage with Boris Karloff and then shoot another 40-minutes worth of story. There's no doubt that Corman had in mind another cheap horror film but Bogdanovich goes into great detail on how he came up with the story and shares many wonderful stories about the making of the picture. He talks about working with Boris Karloff and tells a couple good stories on tips that Karloff gave him when the scene where the two men are on the bed wasn't working as planned. The controversy surrounding the picture and the threat of it not being released are also discussed. Bogdanovich is clearly very proud of the picture and fans of the film will certainly enjoy hearing his comments.
