Joe Johnston keen on Jurassic Park 4 as start of new trilogy

13 hours ago | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Director Joe Johnston has expressed an interest in returning to the Jurassic Park franchise to create a new trilogy of dinosaur adventures.

Earlier this year, producer Frank Marshall said a fourth movie was a long shot, following reservations about another film after the death of Michael Crichton in 2008.

But Johnston - whose Jurassic Park 3 is widely regarded as the weakest in the series - said he would be prepared to revive the prehistoric predators once more.

He told Ain't It Cool News: "There is a great story for the fourth one that I would be interested in getting involved with and it's nothing like the first three. It sort of takes the franchise off in a completely different direction, which is the only way I would want to get involved."

One early script for Jurassic Park 4 included genetically-modified raptors trained as mercenaries, while another report suggested the fourth film »

Joe Johnston Talks Jurassic Park 4 Story

8 November 2009 9:32 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Harry Knowles at Ain’t It Cool News put up an interview from a while back on the set of The Wolfman with director Joe Johnston. In the interview they discussed a bunch of his previous works and a bit about Jurassic Park 4 for which he is attached to helm.

This was before it was announced that Johnston would be directing The First Avenger: Captain America so unfortunately, that topic does not come up.

In the interview, the topic of special effects (the right mix of practical and digital) came up and Johnston gave the example of the first Jurassic Park and how it still holds up today as something special in that regard. Shortly thereafter, Harry brought the conversation back to Jurassic Park to ask some questions about the widely speculated fourth installment of the franchise. Joe Johnston of course, directed Jurassic Park 3.

Ed Norton Not Too Enthusiastic About The Avengers?

4 November 2009 9:10 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

This isn’t too much of an update, but it definitely follows that path of Ed Norton that we’ve become accustomed to in reference to his future with Marvel Studios as Bruce Banner/The Hulk.

Capone at Ain’t It Cool News had a chance to interview the talented and hands-on actor/producer for his work on the documentary, By the People: The Election of Barack Obama, where he was specifically asked to talk only about that project. However, Capone was able to get in a few questions for the fans and that meant a question or two about The Incredible Hulk 2 and The Avengers.

Like I said above, we seemingly get an update from Ed Norton every few weeks about his involvement with Marvel’s future films, alternating between positive and hopeful, to negative and unlikely. This week’s update fall under the latter.

Right now, those names look like they might be tentative on the Thor and Cap titles, though. It's interesting that "Captain America" is the only one of the three games not labeled to correspond with its movie. Granted, "The First Avenger: Captain America" is a pretty long title, »

Geek gossip: FlashForward, Wolverine, The Crow, Captain America, Lobo

22 October 2009 5:49 AM, PDT | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Marc Guggenheim, co-showrunner/executive producer of new sci-fi series FlashForward, has departed, leaving co-creator David Goyer to fly solo, says The Hollywood Reporter.

No reason was given for his exit but many sites claim ratings are already falling and the network was unhappy with the quality of the storytelling. I'm a little mystified with this as I think all four episodes so far have been excellent.

20th Century Fox has announced that X-Men Origins: Wolverine holds the record as the best-selling new release Blu-ray of the year and is one of the top 10 best-selling Blu-ray titles ever. Watch out for my review of the release (I bought it myself as the promised preview copy never arrived from the PR people).

A reboot of The Crow, to be written and directed by Stephen Norrington, is picking up steam, says Mania.com, with news that Norrington's script has been "very well-received" by Relativity Media. »

Captain America Movie Will Knock Your Socks Off and Other News

21 October 2009 5:06 PM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

So I was thinking to myself the other day, “Self, what’s up with the Captain America movie”? Luckily for me, Marvel head honcho Joe Quesada was at the Big Apple Comic-Con in New York City and said this about the Captain America script (officially “The First Avenger: Captain America”): “I’ve seen a couple of outlines and an initial screenplay, and it’s going to rock everyone’s socks off. It’s very unexpected, the kind of movie it is.” And according to Quesada, the Captain America movie will, indeed, set up “The Avengers” movie, which would seem to indicate ol Cap ends up “iced” by film’s end. So now that we know the script is great and tastes like strawberries, what will the movie be about? Maybe something like this: “Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. »

Second Trailer for ‘The Wolfman’

21 October 2009 9:02 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

A second trailer for The Wolfman has appeared online and it is a much better cut than the first Wolfman trailer we got back in August - but does it give away too much?

The Wolfman stars Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Hugo Weaving and Emily Blunt. The framework for this new take on the classic tale has Del Toro playing an English nobleman who returns home to investigate his brother’s savage murder, only to discover that the killer is more than a mere man. The remake is being directed by Joe Johnston, who will also helm The First Avenger: Captain America.

Here is an official synopsis for The Wolfman:

Lawrence Talbot (Del Toro), a haunted nobleman, is lured back to his family estate after his brother vanishes. When his brother’s fiancée, Gwen Conliffe (Blunt), pleads for Lawrence to help find her missing love, Talbot join the search. »

'Captain America' Movie's Script Is 'Very Unexpected,' Says Joe Quesada

21 October 2009 8:47 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

The 2011 release date for "The First Avenger: Captain America" inches ever closer as 2009 enters its home stretch, and the key release for Marvel's "Avengers" film franchise looks like it has editor-in-chief Joe Quesada's approval thus far. Quesada wouldn't reveal which actors are in line to play Captain America, but he did predict surprises and offered his initial impression of the script at Big Apple Comic Con last weekend.

"I've seen a couple of outlines and an initial screenplay, and it's going to rock everyone's socks off," told his panel's audience, according to Comic Book Resources. "It's very unexpected, the kind of movie it is."

The comics industry veteran didn't defy any expectations himself by revealing what kind of movie "The First Avenger" will be, but he did say that the film would set up "The Avengers" in "a fantastic way." He also confirmed that Marvel has a shortlist of candidates for the title role. »

Will Marvel Ever Make a Doctor Strange Movie?

21 October 2009 7:37 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Marvel Entertainment President Kevin Feige has said that a Doctor Strange movie would "kick ass," while Stan Lee, who co-created the character in 1963, made a "promise" to MTV during San Diego Comic-Con that Doctor Strange would be one of Marvel's future projects. But how realistic is a Doctor Strange movie? So far, the character hasn't found much success in Hollywood adaptations. A TV pilot made in the 1970s failed to launch a regular series, while a 2007 animated movie debuted on DVD to mixed reviews.

Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada explained the character's limited appeal to a crowd at the Big Apple Comic-Con. Quesada said that, while Doctor Strange often appears in Marvel comics titles, Strange is "one of a small handful of characters that whenever you see them guest star, you go, Oh! Doctor Strange! I wish he had his own series.' Then we launch a series, and nobody buys it. »

Marvel's Joe Quesada on Captain America: 'It's Going to Rock'

21 October 2009 6:55 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

There's actually more to his quote than just that, but we'll get to that. As a reminder, Joe Quesada is the Editor-in-Chief of Marvel Comics. Essentially, he's the head honcho of the comics division who has a good say on the movie side of things as well (since he knows all of the characters so well). Quesada recently appeared at a panel at the Big Apple Comic-Con and Comic Book Resources was there to cover his talk. If you're a fan of comics as well, the entire update is worth reading, but I'm specifically pulling out his small update on The First Avenger: Captain America. He doesn't say anything new, but it's a good quote. Sticking with Hollywood, Quesada offered a brief update on "The First Avenger: Captain America," with which he's had some involvement. Quesada also said that Captain America sets up The Avengers in "a fantastic way," and that Marvel has a wish list of actors to play the role, but Quesada would not disclose any names.

More Updates On Marvel’s Movie Slate

21 October 2009 5:31 AM, PDT | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

This past weekend was the New York Comic Con, it’s that “little sister” convention that gets barely any coverage due to the behemoth that is the San Diego Comic Con, and their guest of honor this year was none other than Marvel’s editor-in-chief Joe Quesada. In attendance (luckily for us on this slow news day) was Josh Wigler of Comic Book Resource, and he got some real good stuff!

Speaking during a routine panel, Quesada was asked about the future of Marvel’s movie slate. Of course we already know plenty about Iron Man 2 and we aren’t doing too bad on casting information for Kenneth Branagh’s Thor either – but what about old stars & stripes himself - Captain America?

'Captain America' Script to Present the Unexpected

21 October 2009 2:08 AM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Not much has been unraveled on the development of "The First Avenger: Captain America", but Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Joe Quesada has recently brought a much needed update on the superhero project. During the Q&A session at Big Apple Comic-Con, the 47-year-old uncovered that he has read the initial script.

"I've seen a couple of outlines and an initial screenplay, and it's going to rock everyone's socks off," Quesada shared what he has in mind about the script, as quoted by Comic Book Resources. "It's very unexpected, the kind of movie it is." The comic book editor further insisted that "Captain America" sets up "The Avengers" in "a fantastic way".

"The First Avenger: Captain America" has been said earlier to follow the story of Army officer Steve Rogers. It will serve as the introduction of the superhero character before and during the second World War until he becomes the Avengers' leader. »

Captain America Script Features the Unexpected

Got an itsy bitsy update coming your way for First Avenger: Captain America. Since the film is going to serve as the appropriate link between all the latest Marvel films including Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk and the upcoming Avengers movie, a lot rests on its shoulders.
